What Side You Fight On?

To Whom This May Concern, Is it possible that we guardians are wrong? We say we are just trying to survive. We are murderers. But we go looking to kill things that are better off dead. Yet we know death ever so well. Honestly i believe we are no better than the creatures we fight. My point? Uldren was lost. In his grief he lost touch with sanity. Wrong is wrong. P.s- in D1 you could laterally see the enemies feared us. Lol missed the D1 days.

  • You might be right, but I like killing things. Plus, the Hive LITERALLY work towards universal genocide and the Vex want to assimilate everything in existence like a discount version of the Borg. I think we're doing good,

There is no light and dark, only two sides in a never ending war for the universe. One side fights with simplicity, it cuts away all that is weak until only the strongest individuals survive. The other fights with complexity, it’s pieces separated are weak but together they can overcome the greatest of obstacles. This is the truth of the universe, the logic of the sword and the logic of the bomb. The only question is which one will emerge victorious?

              • I remember this snippet of destiny 1 lore that the first encounter the guardians ever had with the cabal were hostile. It goes that guardians were exploring Mars then were ambushed by Cabal. The Hive are honestly just the most of darkness we’ve seen so far(including the Taken) Even if we started first action against the hive, I say it’s justified. And Uldren Sov knew the consequences, if a depressed person went on to kill someone there will be a man hunt.

You need to read the lore....and you need to listen to what The Traveller was saying to us on Io. 1. We didn't start ANY of these wars. The Ancient Enemy +/- The Hive came here to annihilate us. The Cabal tried to steal our Light and destroy the entire Solar System. The Fallen came here to steal the Traveller and pick the bones of what was left of our civilization. The Vex want to manipulate Time and Events in a manner that leads to the extinction of all life but themselves. 2. The Lore of the LIght are filled with allusions and historical references to religion....goodness....and dedication to Life and Creation. Meanwhile the Darkness is dedicated to destruction, death and chaos. 3. During the quest to get our first new Attunement, The Traveller speaks to us as we fight to free her visions of Light from Taken interference. a. She recounts The Speaker's Monologue to Ghaul from the vanilla campaign. Where he describes who we are as Guardians, and why The Traveller chose us. Its because we are dedicated to something greater than ourselves.....and we are willing to sacrifice ourselves to protect and benefit others. This is altruism....this is what Good does. b. She remarks at how---in battling Oryx---we once again affirmed out dedication to the protection of Life....but that we resisted temptation while doing it. In KILLING Oryx, we could have aligned ourselves with the Darkness and assumed Oryx's power by right of Sword Logic.....BUT WE DIDN'T. ("....you could have been Queens of the Deep......") c. She states HER mission (but not why yet). "Humanity needs a protector. WILL YOU STAND WITH ME?" Our new powers are our reward from Her in return for aligning ourselves with The Light and with the Protection of Light and Life. 4. Uldren wasn't lost...HE WAS CORRUPTED. Like the Krill (the Hive) before him, He was tempted with power. Then manipulated via that desire into an "agreement" that ultimately led to ruin....as all Deals with Devils ultimately do. Because in such deals...there is always a HOOK in the bait. For the Hive...its that they had enslaved themselves eterinally to murdering innocents to feed their worms...and advance the cause of The Darkness. For Uldren...it was being manipulated and consumed by a more powerful being...and a more powerful evil....to free it and unless it upon this world. We put an end to him....and (probably) in the raid we will put an end to that evil. I know your generation has grown cynical because every where you look you see institutions that are supposed to be working for you, are failing you at best.....actually taking advantage of you at worst. But there is Good...and there is Evil...and it IS possible to tell the difference. However, it requires that you stop listening to what people say....and watch what they do...and why they do it. By its actions, that thing will reveal its nature. Its why Cayde-6 faced his final death with a clear conscience....and why humor and courage. Its why Uldren faced his death with bitter irony, resentment, and self-justifying lies. That is karma. We are an army of warrior Angels......fighting in a War in Heaven.

                  • Let me tell a short story. One day man who had a shitty week happened upon an injured lion, that man for some reason decided that the best course of action was to bash said lion over the head with a stick. Surely you know what happened next. The moral of the story is, don't start shit you can't finish, or else it will finish you.

                                    • The things we go off to kill are mass murders. They've killed thousands upon thousands for power or their own goals. We kill out of necessity, to ensure to survival of the Human race. The Vex want to exterminate all non-Vex life, the Cabal conquer and enslave races, and the Hive torture and experiment on people and worship the Darkness. Our reasons for killing are completely different from theirs. As for Uldren, our motivations were personal and he was completely out of his mind, I'll give you that. But the fact of the matter is that he still murdered one our own, a skilled guardian. And he controlled the Scorn, who's leader can create a zombie army and managed to kill one of the best guardians alive. Anyone who can do that is a huge threat to the City and should be dealt with.

                                        • After the loss of Cayde and Zavala's opinion towards taking care of the situation (whether he be right or wrong), I've found myself enjoying the company of the more unsavory types. As The Drifter mentioned, sometimes it's fun to be the bad guy. And if it's keeping my home and loved ones safe, why not? But then, that wouldn't really make me better than Uldren, would it? Eh, whatever gets me the most loot and materials... what with the inflated infusion costs.

                                          • There is no light and dark, only shades of grey. That statement definitely applies to destiny. The guardians are in the side of the angels of course, we’ve killed mass murderers like oryx and crota (who tried to invade and kill us all) the vex in the infinite forest who where trying to whip everything else out of existence (unleash the reality bomb!) a worm god, the hive beings who grow more powerful by every kill to there dark gods. The red war. Our people where slaughtered and our home taken. We fought back and retook our home, fighting for our people (and the puppy’s). We where definitely in the right there. The fallen is where things get iffy and grey moral wise. House of wolves we tracked down and arrested a powerful criminal, rise of iron we fought evil mad scientist who tried to unleash siva to destroy us. And sure, enemy’s in d1 feared us, but that’s because we are almost immortal space warriors and wizards who are revived from the dead(not animated there is a difference) and keeps coming back. But forsaken, that’s where things get real grey. The beautiful gem that is forsaken proves one thing. Oh, I may be on the side of the angels, but don’t think for one second I am one. (May contain forsaken spoilers for anyone who haven’t completed the story)
anyways, ya. Forsaken is completely different. Our mentor and friend is killed. Then we directly violate orders (sensing a Theme from warning here) and go after the barons ourself. We work with a criminal lord, who directly mentions who he steals some of his loot from, and go hunt and kill 8 people. Not these killers are mass murderers, but your still working with criminals and disobeying orders. Then when all the mass murderers are dead, you find the delusional and insane uldren, and pull the trigger. Bang! That is darker, and still on the side of the angels in forsaken, but you aren’t one for sure. Than if you look deeper into the lore, you find some guardians who definitely not a angel, maybe not even on there side. Toland the shattered. Banished. Dregan yor. Mass guardian murderers. Countless others to.

anyone get any of the references, I had a couple in there
We are just trying to survive. Also, the reason there is Darkness is because Traveler does it’s thing. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. If you’re gonna turn an unlivable planet into a paradise, it comes with a price. If you wake the Traveler, it wakes something else (see D2 end credit scene)

For the Vex it's ensuring they will always exist. For the Hive it's imposing a universal "survival of the fittest". There is nothing inherently good or bad about any of this. It's all about perspective.
