Ways your playstyles have evolved over time!

Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from a graveyard in New Meridian, with everyone’s favorite undead; Squigly! By the by, Squigly, how’s your music career going? Haven’t heard any new songs for a while. Squigly: “Aifos, I died a decade ago..” Right.. That.. I suppose that would get in the way of the whole.. Singing thing.. Hm.. I just made things awkward, didn’t I? Well, not to worry, perfect solution! Let’s move on with the thread! The longer you play a game, the more you learn the ins and outs of its mechanics. Many aspects of the game become second nature to you, and sometimes you don’t even need to think to pull off amazing feats. This process, often called “gitting gud” comes with another effect, though. See, as we grow, and change, we.. Well, we grow and change! Maybe we cast off a weak, but easy to use weapon, for something with a higher skill requirement, but greater payoff. Maybe, we learn that there are deeper mechanics we ever knew of. Maybe, we just know how to use what we’ve been using better. And that’s what we’re talking about today! How your playstyles have evolved. How you went from using Stone Kirby to any of the other better abilities, how you don’t need to pause your favorite fighting game to see button inputs, how you starting showing those whippersnappers who’s the real PvP master! Tl;dr? Here’s my point! Let’s here some ways your playstyles havr evolved for various games (for better or worse). My answer;
A certain conversation I had recently resparked my interest in Skullgirls. Now, I never stopped liking the game, but I found myself not playing it often, but playing it again, I remembered why I love it so. I hop on, 3v3, and decimate the competition as—decimate!? Who wrote this script, I don’t “decimate” anything, that’d only be 10% of their health bar! *ahem* and DOMINATE the competition, without losing a single one of my fighters. But as triumphant a team Squigly, Ms. Fortune, and Fukua make, they weren’t my first team. From the moment I picked up the controller, I knew I was going to love Ms. Fortune. Between her cat puns, ad rushdown playstyle, it was great. So, I played a rushdown Fortune at first. My mind was blown when I learned Fortune was actually a puppeteer character.. Which, I couldn’t get the hang of.. Eventually, I started to like the game enough to buy the DLC characters, and Squigly’s playstyle resonated with me perfectly. She quickly overtook Fortune as my most played character, though, eventually, I ended up wanting to make use of the team features, and threw Squigly, and (rushdown) Fortune on a team. As I kept playing, I wanted a third character to join my swuad. I went through a few characters who just didn’t click, including Double, Big Band, and Robo Fortune, but eventually I settled for Painwheel, and while I had finally gotten Ms. Fortune’s head in the game, I was just awful with Painwheel. As my proficiency with tje other characters improved, I found hers to be stagnant. Eventually, though Painwheel was one of my favorite characters, I let her go, and returned to my duo. That lack of a third character bugged me though, and then it happened. As surprising as it was, the game updated and made one crucial change that would change my playstyle forever! It turned Fukua’s ghosts green! Yes, the shadows who used to look something like clones, now looked like green projections of her soul, and I thought that was awesoms! And after some training, Fukua became the third member of my Skullgirls team! Oh, and also, honorable mention to tbe journey every Kirby player takes at one point or another; realizing Stone is, quite frankly, an awful ability, and never using it when they don’t have to.
That’s all for now, folks! Jambuhbye!

  • In rpgs I used to always prefer magic over anything else. Now I like to be more of a thief class hero so I can be sneaky and feel like an assassin.

In league ive gone from playing supportive top Lakers such as gnar and maokai to carry, burst damage junglers such as nidalee and evelynn. In fighting games, I've gone from grapplers to combo heavy characters such as zero suit Samus in sm4sh And in RPGs I've stayed the same as a ranged marksman

        • Playing D1 Crucible was the first FPS PvP experience on console I'd ever had, and man, did I suck at first. I eventually learned how important your tracker was, and how to have a better idea as to where to go. The biggest thing that I learned was to keep moving forwards in some direction if you weren't camping a point or engaging the enemy team, but I played mid-range pretty hard so maybe that was just personal.

        • In FPS, I’ve always maintained the Sniper’s play style. Waiting. Waiting.
Waiting.
When with the sound of a single click, the roar of thunder fills my ears and a flash of lightning escaping my grasp, desperately seeking contact with the organism unbeknownst of his certain death traveling at hundreds of miles an hour. I also like puzzle games.

            • When I first started playing Fallout 3, I'd grab everything that wasn't nailed down. But later on I decided to make a drastic change to my looting habits. When collecting junk, I only collect enough to craft one of every craftable weapon. When looting bodies for armor and weapons, I collect one of every armor, and one of every weapon.

            • Playing some of dark souls 3 taught me how to be more methodical and patients. Surprisingly for the most part it’s also made me less prone to raging but that could be due to getting older. Recently been playing through bloodborne(first play through) as I just got a PS4 a few months back. I’ve been trekking through the game at a pretty decent rate for myself. I wholeheartedly think it is due to the little bit of DS3 I played. I’ve really been enjoying it.

                • Hmmm.... Well the easiest game to mention would be Nioh. Since it is a soulsbourne style game it kinda forces you to evolve otherwise you will fail. But! I will also say that I have used the spear from the beginning of the alpha demo, and have I continuously tweaked and manipulated my spear style to better maximize every combo and stance option there is.

I used to be mainly a tank kinda in rpgs like Skyrim and such, I would have heavy armor that was ridiculously op and usually something like a great sword but nowadays (this also counts for shooters) I've been using bows and alot of ranged guns.

                        • I've become more casual as I feel there is no games that give me the same satisfaction that my first real addiction gave me (Everquest2) I was very elite, top endgame raider in Eq2, which means battling for contested bosses (meaning powerful bosses spawned in open public areas that anyone could find them, so you had to be the first to kill it before someone else), spending hours trying to figure out boss fights to be among the first to clear it (first on the server) but MMOs are a dying game (imo), no one really wants to play them so all the current and new coming mmos are put together poorly (again imo). But Pantheon might be good when it comes out.

                          • When I first got into RPGs (like Dark Souls, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Skyrim, etc.), it was all about being the mage for me. Spellcraft, magic, and mana was everything, and I liked having the power to summon fireballs, ice spears, lightning strikes, and raising the dead. Did I feel like an OP badass? Of course I did. That's the point of magic/distance based subclasses. However, recently I've begun to refine my play and become more hands-on. In doing so, I've fallen in love with the refined play style of the Rouge, in nailing that perfect backstab and perfecting the dodge techniques. This trend has influenced my most recent weapon decision in Monster Hunter World as well. Originally, I was going to follow the meta and choose the light bowgun. However, the long sword just seemed to call out to me, and I haven't put it down since. Just goes to show that trying new things definitely pays off huge dividends.

                            • Well I’m shooters I started by just running in and dying every 2 seconds when I was like 9 but now being 20 I learned to be more tactical (I play games like rainbow six siege) I have a lot more fun that way because I’m not dead at the very beginning. Fighting games used to be me spamming the same move over and over but now I learn each character and what they are good at before I take on some players. Hope you enjoyed have a nice day!

                              • I realised once that fighting games have things called combos, and that using them makes it easier to win. I realised once that shooters have things called cover, and that standing behind them makes it harder for your enemy to kill you. But most importantly, I realised once that if you block, dodge and/or stand near your team, everything becomes much easier. Of course, this all happened a long time ago, and in that time everyone else seems to have forgotten that last one. Nevermind.

                                • The first thing that comes to mind is JRPGs. I grew up in the ‘80s so my friends and I always tried blasting through em, think FFI, Dragon Warrior etc. By the time FFVI came out (called FFIII back then) I started playing a lot more conservatively. What I mean is I would grind out my characters and basically over level them for the next task at hand. I still do that to this day on any type of RPG or RPG style of a game. Even though I do not have the time for video games like I did as a child or teenager.

Now in Battlefront 2 (please forgive me for playing it) I venture out with my sniper rifle and mines to wage a guerrilla warfare aginst the enemy.

                                    • Darksiders: - I start of with this because it's an evolution and also a de-evolution, based on the my first expirance, to my true second ,1 many years later.
On my first run, It was a challenge like no other before it. The first boss in the parking lot was a triumph. Each and every boss after, just became more and more difficult and that just getting by was the only way to go. I was having a ton fun as well. When I finally completed the game, I hadn't realised till I replayed on the hardest difficulty, that my skills and evolution on the journey, made even the hardest difficulty trivial. I could not believe my eyes just how much I had grown, doing insane amounts of combo's, learning when to dodge and just the flow of battle going perfect was amazing... Much time passes and when I return... I learned I retained some of my previous experience but I found myself... being mediocre at best. I wasn't exceptional but I.. wasn't horrible like my first play through. I don't know how I really feel about this, just can't seem to become that Golden age me in the before times. *sigh*
Destiny 1: - Learning how make multiple builds, using the weapons, Armours, skills and abilities, while also looking stylish, where some of the best times I've had on the game. I truly did become Legend when the 3rd dlc came and the forth was just icing on the cake.... Then destiny 2 came... Final Fantasy XIII: - Throughout my time playing videogames, no game has ever come close to just how much I want to keep Re-playing this game. I take pretty long breaks between each sea--- Hmm Well yeah, I could go on at how much I really.. Really like this game. Onto my evolution --->
How my playstyle has evolved though, well my first run was pretty much me, sitting there, totally engrossed in the story, characters and combat. I was pretty bad and fell into trouble quite a few times. By the time I had 100%, I thaught ''I could do much better if I did so and so'' and from that point on, each successive play through, has been me, trying out all sorts of different tactics and strategies, at how to tackle the game. I just can't get enough of it. There is so much more I need/want to test. I am Leagues ahead of when I first started.
Mobius Final Fantasy: - What started as somthing sceptical and really un-trustworthy, is now not so sceptical and somthing you can't really trust when it comes to pulling but then, that's all Gatcha F2P games haha.
When I first started the game, I was pretty bad and didn't really know anything. Overtime I slowly learned more and more and eventually joined my second discord. Learning from others players, taking advice and Co-Oping with them to take down Final Fantasy's bosses was really fun. The game has 4 multiplayer roles and for the longest time, I was top tier in one of them and eventually evolved to be a master in all 4. Not only because of my now long experience with the game, I can also give solid advice for any newbie. As they pathe the way, to each become their own Warrior of Light.
Ty for reading it all if you did.

Weapon 1: A assault rifle of some kind, mostly to cover short to medium range. Weapon 2: A pistol with high range. That way it can help cover my longer ranges Weapon 3 (if possible): Sometimes a very explosive weapon
