The measure of this moment is the measure of the hope it can bring and if it's gonna make a difference, the difference will be easy to see.

I've been posting on the Destiny forums since day one. I've been on bnet since 2005. The magnitude of today's update is absolutely unbelievable. It's pretty much everything the community has been asking for and the things that aren't there like changes to the weapon system are mentioned as being worked on for Fall of this year. Eververse: Moving Ghosts, ships and sparrows to activity reward pools. Gameplay path to earn ALL EV rewards More direct purchase options instead of all RNG (the number one complaint since it released 2 years ago) Completing Nightfall, Raid, and Crimson Days milestones during Crimson Days will reward you an exclusive Legendary Emote, Weapon Skin, and Exotic Sparrow, respectively. Illuminated and Crimson engram when leveling up. Crimson engrams weighted heavily to new rewards I think it sounds a lot closer to what I have always hoped EV would be (like WoW with direct purchase. no RNG). I'm okay with the system because the fact is perpetual content need perpetual revenue being generated. I think this sounds fair and I'm interested to see how the new system works with aquiring the items through play. Masterwork Armor: Win. We've been asking to be able to reroll our armor stats since launch and set up our characters how we want. We are getting it. Raid rewards: Raid weapons will now drop with raid specific perks. This has been asked for since the raid launched. Raid ghost with raid specific perks. We were taking about this in one of our raids 2 weeks ago and saying how awesome it would be to have a raid ghost to produce more glimmer etc in the raid. Strike Scoring + High Score Tracking Been asked for since launch. Not only is it back but it REPLACES TIMERS. Yup. Timers are gone. Clan and community high scores for Nightfalls. It was fun in PoE, this could be better. Mods 2.0
Full rework of armor and weapon mods. This will focus on reducing redundant mods, more unique theming, and greatly increasing their impact on your power.
Another thing we've asked for since launch. The mod system didn't work because the mods were boring and acquiring them was terribly inefficient. PC Tower chat (text) Been asked for since PC launch and if it works could be a harbinger for voice chat in social spaces. Fireteam Members on Destination Map A little thing that is immensely needed. Nice to see. Crucible RANKED PLAY. Been asked for since D1. Two ranking systems for casuals and hardcore. Private Matches. Awesome they're coming back. 6v6 I cannot believe this is here. I did not expect to see this in the update and hoped to see it in the future. THIS. This is the single biggest issue with this game for me and has been since the reveal event and they listened to the feedback and they made good on it. RUMBLE. Yup. Weapons re-balance for season 3 Exotic weapons and armor getting comprehensive design pass to ensure they stand out and offer new, exciting and powerful ways to play. Bungie did this in D1 with update 1.1.1 which outside of the AR nerf introduced the single greatest era of weapon play and balance in the life of that game. Can't wait to see if they can replicate that here. Weapon slot and archetype improvements. Hard to say what exactly this could entail, but at the least I see it making snipers, shotguns, fusions more viable vs rockets and swords and i also see a possibility of one or more power weapons moving to a different spot. Also guessing we'll see an effort to make all archetypes viable (hopefully looking at you high impact scouts) Strikes Again, no more timers. Heroic strike modifiers. Been one of the most non EV requests lately. Other Improved Iron Bananna and Faction Rallies (that FWC will never win even though they are clearly the best) Vault and storage improvements Masterwork exotics Shaders and dismantling. Finally. Address Solo Vs Fireteam matching I'm happy with the update. I thought it would be comprehensive, but I honestly didn't expect to see things like 6v6 and rumble which are HUGE game changers for me and my friends and how we love to play Destiny. Beyond that, as someone who's been a part of this community and been through year one and all the efforts to build better communication over the ensuing years, this is really a special moment and maybe people will appreciate the magnitude of it and maybe they won't, but this..
One Final Note Expect to hear more from us via Bungie.net, Twitch, and social media. We’ll be talking to you more directly, and more often, as promised. We want to thank our community for all the passionate and detailed feedback you provide. It’s critical to our ability to continually improve Destiny, so thank you!
I've waited 3 1/2 years to hear that and I hope the devs and this community can refind the relationship that has existed here in the past because we all love this game.
Title of post is from Swell. Thank you.
• Honestly...once again people who hated D1 begged for D1 back into D2...now are complaining. It never ends. I really just wanted more pvp options and 6v6. Got it. I still want 6 man patrols. Wants it. I do not care about raid specific weapons and armor. I like that I don't have to change my armor and weapons for that kind of stuff. Step back. I just want more raid lairs. And more mods. Oh, and loot I can buy for IB once I rank. Everything they announced so far is pretty good. Can't wait for it to come out. I also think they need to unbalance classes, weapons and grenades and I hope the new mods can do that somewhat.

    • Everything the community has been asking for ? Are you smoking peyote when you write this trash ? These things were already in place and no one was asking for them to be changed to begin with. Yet they were gutted from the game contradicting years of feedback. Wake up dude, your years of contributions in feedback carry no weight when a studio can implement years of feedback only to reverse all of it. They have made your efforts futile and will continue to make your efforts futile.

      • Update is laughable. Most of it is stuff that should have been there from release. And then the eververse comments contradict themselves. The thing that’s kept this community clinging since day one is the “potential”. Well if that potential takes 3 years to get to and then is wiped by the next release... what’s he point of sticking around for the potential when it only has a 6month life span before its rinse and repeat? Bungie needs to release more than just a road map. Bungie needs to acknowledge the flaws, the missteps, and the blatant manipulation. Bungie needs to address their ideology and their philosophies. Bungie needs to address the cycle of building only to render moot because they want to throw integers into title.

Basically everything we had before, only with the watered down sandbox and class building. So what is being added that is actually new and exciting?

If this was coming from a person that actually cares about the community. This would actually be worth making a reply that has constructive feedback. See, what most don't know is you chat with Deej, Cozmo etc... and you were invited to the D2 review. Yes, you been posting for a long time but the min you started hanging out with Bungie your perspective changed and it hasn't been for the better when it comes to the community. This isn't you speaking, this is Deej, Cozmo, Luke and whoever else you been hanging out with when it comes to to the community. See, it's very easy for you to just blow all this off and acting like the game is "improving" that this company "cares about their player base" The truth is, that is a (Lie) A company that cares about their player base don't pull nonsense like that... Rigged XP "sorry guys" Rigged XP again "sorry guys" Rigged 30C "Sorry" guys" The weapon had a "bug" "sorry guys" Tried to put up another paywall with the first expansion that (you tried to play off that they would never do again when they pulled the paywall with TTK. And you stated that they were sorry and made a "mistake" ) "sorry guys" Creating one anyways with the next expansion "sorry guys" Blocking refunds. In my eyes ( That is what I call a thief... ) "sorry"...
But we are not sorry. Shh, don't tell anyone.
Putting normal loot behind a paywall. "sorry guys" Created this Dawning cash grab "sorry guys" Oh, I love this straight out Lying to the player base face
"Eververse was never intended to be a substitute for end-game content and rewards."
Created another cash grab Crimson "sorry guys" Just saying sorry ahead of time. You know, because how dumb you are and believe us that 'we're sorry" Bungie seems to say sorry a lot and just so happened to make innocent mistakes right? Do you know what a person is saying when they constantly say sorry and keep making the same "mistakes" I'm sorry, can you please let me do it again? The sad thing about all the crap this company pulls and how you defend this Hog Wash. A hell of a lot of gamers say, hahahaha okay Bungie, you're forgiven. I'll be your doormat... If you actually gave a flying hoot about this game and the community. You wouldn't be blowing off... The lies this company has been pulling with the cheap tactics that no company has Ever done in gaming history in a 2 month period. Then they go on trying to cover their butt on what is actually going on. It's disgusting and what I said is a (fact you cant deny) What, all the money they have made this last 3+ years with all the event's, Boost packs, Redbull, Rockstar, etc... with that 500 million Activision gave them pluse the bonus they get for meeting deadlines wasn't enough money to create a decent expansion with over 900 employees? Even after being called out on trying to creating a paywall with the first expansion in D21, they have the nerve to create another one anyways. WTH is wrong with this company. Is spiting in their player base face supposed to be funny? Then there is the "content that is too hard to make" but they can easley add what they removed that the game had in just a short time with the next expansion, but they couldn't have added it when D2 vanilla was released. How does that work? What happen to...
we created a system that allows us to create content much easier
Or how about this?
We're outsourcing material to other studios to bring more content on a regular basis.
See, you can lie all you want for Bungie by taking info from them and post it on this forum all you want. But the people that don't like being treated like a doormat know better. Yeah, you can call me a.... "Troll" "Hater" "Basher" etc... All you want, because that is all you got. But one thing you can't call me is a liar or someone that lies to the community for this company saying ("Bungie is trying to improve D2 and is listening to our feedback") knowing this is exactly what they did with D1 vanilla. Especially knowing they were hiding like a child to ride Dawning out to grab as much cash as they could before making any statements. So here comes Bungie saying we're adding what we took from you. You should be thanking us that we're even adding it back with all the disgusting things we pulled.

          • I'm lost for words. This is a massive (good news) bomb devs dropped on us, yet this community still complains? Players keep using that argument "----- should have been in the game" ....In 16 months of development? Really turn off all the electronics in your homes and think about that for a good hr. After having to start from scratch (which is something I really want to hear more about) 16 months before release, Everything that was in destiny should have been in D2? Not.....-blam!-ing.....possible. What Bungie did Thursday was a HUGE step forward In my book, and I hope they stay true to their word. I feel like some devs finally said something to their leaders about the bad calls they were making and how the mistakes were jeopardizing the game, and the communities trust.

And you have done absolutely nothing to it! None of it was your merit! You have chosen to deceive your fellow community members, when they've chosen to fight and you have chosen to defend Bungie whenever and wherever you could! And all needed was a PAX invite! To have you now, coming here and praise this is a shame! And although lost my respect for you before, you manage now to reach even a new low! Just mho and i know you won't like it. Btw, i'm not impressed nor happy with the changes, as ppl have different expectations and priorities and most of mine were not considered. But it doesn't matter. Just saying.

There's good changes on this list, to be sure. I do find it both ironic and frustrating that "solutions" to problems this game has is to roll them back to D1 era settings. This game would have been much better off as a D1 expansion. Kept the sandbox, weapon system, pvp play lists and added maps, quick travel, weapon/armor mods (and made them not suck ass as they currently do), new areas (and kept old ones).. I mean, it'd have been pretty kickass now that I think about it. You know, excuse me, but I guess it was TOO MUCH for me to hope for D2 to not just sustain the quality of life for many of the important things in D1 but also EXCEED them and IMPROVE them by a very noticeable margin. Isn't that one of the truest measuring sticks we judge sequels by? Halo CE to Halo 2... Halo 2 to Halo 3... all of those transitions moved console gaming shooters in such a meaningful and positive way forward it's almost unbelievable how good we had it then compared to what we deal with now . D1 to D2? Not even close. By a long shot. But I digress. I've said my peace previously on these forums. My playtime is way down. I sure as hell won't be spending another nickle on Bungie until I see a sustained effort to respect its community and make good on actually improving the game in a meaningful way. Lost, one thing I'd like you to consider: While I agree that Barrett's promises to keep an ongoing dialogue with the community is great, isn't there a part of you that finds it's ridiculous what it's taken for us to to finally get to this point? A community in open revolt. Players leaving by the thousands. Previous supporters of the franchise vocally turning their backs on it. Bungie getting caught red handed pushing some very shady business practices. I mean holy -blam!- dude. After this forrest fire / shit storm combo Bungie and its community have been weathering these last few months, we FINALLY appear to be getting the attention and respect we've deserved all along. Makes that sweet taste pretty bitter also in my opinion. I certainly don't find it worthy of praise.

In closing Bungie is like the Seahawks, they had early success but the game plan they still use is stagnant and everyone has caught on. TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE!!!

            • The changes announced are indeed positive. Superficial changes that will over time make D2 better and ultimately more fun to play. Let me ask you this. "Will D2 ever provide the same player enjoyment as the original?" No it won't, because it can't. The core Development in D2(specifically the 2-primary, token system, & fixed rolls) cannot be removed or substantially changed. For this reason alone D2 is a major fail when compared to the original. Players will continue to leave this game faster than new one's join.

So we should be falling over ourselves to praise Bungie for giving back things that shouldn't have been taken and removing what never should have been added...at some point? Are we serious right now? I hope you and the others here like you realize you just got played by the New Coke strategy. It clearly worked like a charm.

Masterwork doesn't equal rerolling the item, just the one insignificant +5/+10 stat boost... I don't think that counts as reforging. Not nearly at all. It's like comparing pebbles and mountains. One-For-All Shaders still aren't coming... also something we're not getting the way we wanted it. The only thing that gives me hope is the highly ambiguous Exotic/Item sandbox overhauls. But they're so vague and unspecific that what we anticipate to be buffs could absolutely be nerfs... I'm sorry but it's more of the Bungo Classic: Offer something misleading that the Community can misconstrue as "they could be doing EXACTLY what I was hoping they would" when in reality they have a very concrete plan even now to do something arbitrary to the game. Sorry if I don't buy into it so easily, more sorry you've bought into it so easily. I don't think this offers enough for players to be interested in playing anymore than they were a day or week ago. I fail to see how Masterwork getting expanded makes a difference when a lot of people don't even care about that system right now. It fails to provide a meaningful boost to gameplay, it's mostly just the vanity factor of having your Legendary show up shinier than everyone else's, with stats that prove nothing other than how long you've played the game "but hey it makes me feel good." All it does for someone like me who plays for upgrades is roll my eyes at how useless it is to work towards these upgrade options. 10 Masterwork Shards for +5/+10 to a useless stat... why would anyone waste their breath? I don't get why anybody would waste their time on this system except if they already liked the game as it was. And the whole point about the game at the moment is that nobody is enjoying it enough to keep playing, even if they don't already have these things. I don't think you get to speak for the vocal minority when you say it's what the Community wanted, when you've been actively advocating D2 and shunning the vocal minority these past few weeks.

                    • You know, there was a good bit of people that called Bungie would do this. Taking away community loved things to resell it later to fuel the hype train. At this point this is only a journey back to square one. They haven’t done or shown anything new or innovating yet Why should they be praised for simply doing what they have been doing since D1 Y1? Because if you remember , they have always removed things just to give it back to us later? No salt here, not looking to fling insults or whatever.. I’m genuinely wanting someone to explain their logic behind their thinking on how this is something to be praised

The trolls and the haters are going to keep hating and trolling. Everyone else understands this is big. Bungie has to deliver...but they are basically rolling things back to Y3 D1. And we’re seeing that the claims from those trolls about how great D1 was in their eyes was a mile-wide and an inch deep.
