Okay. There are some things that I have to ask.
This thread is going to work hand in hand with my a new video I'm working on, so I need as many opinions as I can get. I'll post the link once the video is finished and live.
I've been playing Destiny since launch back in 2014. Personally, I loved it. Sure, it had its problems. It became a bit repetitive. The dialogue was painful. It had a rough start, I'll admit it. But for all the bad, there was just as much good there too. My favorite aspect of vanilla was the weapon grinding and the perk rolls. It took time to get stronger; this skill tree nonsense in Destiny 2 was cool at first, but after a day of playing, you're already 20 and then you're firing blanks for predetermined vendor weapons and armor from then on.
That being said, I have to ask...who, among the Destiny community, really misses the drop system and weapon rolling/grinding from the vanilla version of the game back in 2014? Personally, I do, as I've already stated. But I do have my reasoning behind it, and I'd like to share it with the entire community.
In Destiny 2, weapons are set in stone. They cannot be changed, though the mods are a cool change of pace. I miss my gear stats from vanilla but I can roll with mods (pardon the pun). Infusion does indeed increase the longevity of a gun, no doubt. But I remember spending countless hours in the game just digging as deep as I could through the Cosmodrome, the strike playlist, so on so forth, searching for that perfect weapon that really felt like my counterpart. While it may not have always been the most enjoyable task in the world, the intensity of finally decoding that weapon or piece of armor that pushed me forward gave me a sense of pride and relief, knowing that I had finally taken another step forward. To me, it was a big deal.
Then came the weapon grind. This was arguably my favorite part.
Sure, you could just toss a few motes of light at it and bam, its done. And I know that a lot of players did that; myself included from time to time. But I admired the fact that even though it wasn't always a fun task, the game did make every attempt to give me the most play time I could get with gear grinding. I liked the idea of working for materials to upgrade weapons and gear. It gave me as a player something to work towards; Just because I have this new awesome chest piece doesn't mean I am qualified to use it just yet. No. I had to take it out into the field and break it in, and get a dent or two in it before I really knew what it was capable of. That is something I miss that was absent from Destiny 2.
I think that a lot of people failed to realize that the gun grind wasn't necessarily just a "chore" but rather, something to keep you, the player, on your toes. Sure, there are quests that will reward you with great gear, but the lack of weapon rolls in Destiny 2 makes each decryption significantly more stale, though I do still find myself constantly digging in the game world. In Destiny, drops were completely random. While this was a bad thing most often, occasionally it was an amazing thing. And the reason for that wasn't necessarily because of the contents of a potential engram, but rather, the gear perks. While I would've preferred random gun stats instead, the random perk system kept me playing, scrounging around like a raccoon in the neighborhood garbage cans, just digging and digging for a tasty new treat.
I mean, yeah. 9 times out of 10, I would find garbage. That makes sense. We are talking about garbage cans at the moment.
But there was always that one time where I would find a golden coin, metaphorically speaking. I miss the rush I got from that, and the time it encouraged me to put into the game. I miss that sense of pride I had when I found MY gun.
But I think, now that vanilla Destiny feels like a "complete" game when you play it as a whole with all the expansions (even though it took FAR too long to get there), the biggest difference between vanilla Destiny and Destiny 2 is the amount of play time that someone can actually sit there and enjoy it. People complain about the lack of content in D2, but in the same sense, people also complained about the grind in vanilla. That confuses me.
It also leads me to my final question.
If you could have the original weapon and drop system back, would you take it, or would you forget all about it like that girl you dated back in highschool?
Feel free to comment with your most honest opinions. I need raw information, so don't candy coat it. Be as brutally honest about it as you can.

2 RespuestasMy honest opinion. I loved D1 and at the end they perfected it and I thought that system and the random rolls/Weapon system loadout/etc. would be in D2. If D2 had the same system I would honestly be so aggravated I would have walked away sooner than I did. If I had to work even harder for these terrible guns with awful perks it would deter even trying.
