"Destiny 2 stats were being used to spread a false narrative"...well...

If that's actually how they felt, they should probably raid every gamestop and best buy to remove all the used Destiny 2 discs before that spreads another "false narrative"... The only false narrative is everything that comes out of their blam ing mouth Edit: Here are daily active player stats history. Not made up right off Destiny Tracker. Don't think they are including D1 registrations just their active players. Narrative looks pretty clear to me 9/26 - 4.7m registered, 2.6m Crucible, 2.5m PvE 10/22 - 5.6m registered, 880k Crucible, 1.9m PvE 11/6 - 6.7m registered, 997k Crucible, 2.0M PvE 12/2 - 7.3m registered, 414k Crucible, 985k PvE

We‘re down to 500k PvP/1m PvE. On three platforms from which I think PC still has the most active players since they‘re six weeks behind and the game is much cheaper (ane agruably better) on PC. And the numbers also include D1 players. That‘s bacially less players on both consoles than D1Y3 had in it‘s last months before D2 dropped. It‘s the lowest since 9/2014. Doesn‘t matter since it‘s just a false narrative...lel

To those who will try to say that Tracking is showing a false narrative. First off, last I checked with them, those numbers come from both destiny and destiny 2. I could be wrong there but it's been the going impression. I can tell you if you check the Destiny 1 tracker it gives you the same number... So. What we are now dealing with is over 5 platforms. PS3 and 360, PS4 and Xbone, and PC. Across two game titles, a total of less then 1 million people played destiny at all yesterday. Odds are about 200k are still playing destiny 1's pvp, so that leaves around 200k in D2s pvp. About 400k are probably still playing Destiny's pve, so that leaves around 500k on d2's side. Look. The reality is this. You are lying to your self if you think "oh no, no no no, destiny is doing well, people just aren't playing it every day..." this is the number of their core players. Around a million global, about half of which also play pvp content. It is literally impossible for their numbers to go /down/ from here. This is the lowest they are capable of being at this time. When the numbers go up, it's because of on again off again players factoring in, people who show up for things like the weekend trials events and so on. But this is the lowest the number is likely to go, even after the game has been out for years, the number will still more or less look like this. That isn't an example of a successful game. That's the mark of a game that sold well then died on arrival. The simple fact that Bungle came out with a little press release to try and promise "yeah we hear you we're fixing it" means the problem is actually worse than is indicated on the tracking site. There is no false narrative. They're going to spin it that when people come back for the 3 hour long DLC, it's because of the changes they're making to physics "fixed" everything. The reality will be just another flash in the pan but it will give them the numbers they need to sell the real false narrative. That Bungle is doing well.

          • At one point in 2016 there was 30 million registered users. That's a figure Activision and Bungie was proud of after Taken King. The registered user visible now, 7 million are strictly from D2 with tracked players from all platforms. There's a reason why NPD data sales and Activision quarterly reports are not revealing the true numbers of users. That's also a reason why they won't make too much changes now. It's too late to correct the current direction with 2 expansion already slated. Save the major change for the large expansion and let the live team deal with some corrective actions. Just remember, Luke Smith is probably already starting D3...

            • Honestly some of the points people are making are still kind of idiotic... -"Check the numbers again on 12/5 and they'll be up":...well yeah they will be. The question was never if they'll be up but rather should they have been higher * I F * the game was a quality one? -"Player numbers naturally dwindle": This is one of those truths represented to obscure the fact that games have a typical set projection to what they naturally dwindle to and anything that exceeds the "natural digression" usually is do to something with the game itself. Easiest event in recent history that resembles the fire that Destiny is making is Pokemon Go that lost 50% of its user base in the 2-weeks it implemented an update that "alienated" players. Difference is they lost 20million players on a F2P title whereas Destiny doesn't even have that many players to bleed and its a purchased title. -"Destiny 1 numbers don't matter": This is stupid and dumb 'cuz fact is if D2 was truly a great success, D1 would be history and that's it. This isn't an opinion but a real gaming fact; players only go to older versions of the game if they feel it has better value. There was a huge demand for a Vanilla version of WoW because of the belief of the overabundance of crap in the current meta of that game. In D2 the meta is crap so people want D1. This isn't on Bungie's planning book in any way, shape or form and the fact that it is an issue simply implies that they fudged up D2. Numbers matter because if D2 really got it right, we wouldn't be hearing about D1 at all. -"Players whine too much":...and how many "whiny players" did it take to cut the price of The Taken King? Yeah thought so....If this is an issue then know the difference between feedback, criticism and a whiny complaint. Bungie deserves all 3 because they are that incompetent in understanding the idiocy of their mistake. -"Anthem will not kill Destiny": this has to be one of the more delusional statements because yeah actually it won't. But it WILL ensure more players will drop Destiny in a heart beat. Also great games never worry about other similar genre worry them; great games become the hallmark of comparison. If you think of how many Zelda games there are, they never worried about other action RPGs ever, they always went ahead and did quality stuff on an unpopular console type and still managed to achieve unanimously impressive results to the point where people are buying the console to play that game. No one talks about Bungie or Destiny that way, we instead talk about how things "could have been" and that's the real story. The fact is everyone would've loved to see D2 suceed and that they didn't hold high expectations for an improved D2 over D1 but no one could've forseen the shit show this whole debacle was.

                  • Taking away research and information.... creating ignorant consumers. Slipping D1 numbers into the D2 population... hiding the true D2 population. We can't make an educated decision without the proper information (which they are hiding) Anybody who is stoked for the DLC clearly has their head in the sand, or they're not spending their own money. Destiny 2 is mediocre at best... Bungie, however, has become atrocious.

Actually. Come to think of it. I made another post about it and while thinking on that I realized... The reason why they're combining players across two games, and across five platforms... Is to defraud their investors. They are in legally questionable fashion representing their numbers as being better than they are to keep share holders from leaving. If share holders could see just the number of people who are actively playing Destiny 2, and what platform they are doing it on, if they don't like what that figure looks like, they might pull out of Bungle. So Bungle is misleading the public through A, combining all numbers into a lump sum, and B, avoiding meaningful data tracking. Okay. So. There are games that will give you live numbers, as well as daily, weekly, and monthly figures. By 1, only showing a lump sump, and 2, presenting it by the day, it allows them to present a narrative that most of those players are playing d2, and that because they only publish the numbers daily, that most of those players didn't play the day before, and won't play the day after, so on a weekly basis there are millions of people playing, just not all at the same time on the same days.... Fair enough. All they have to do to prove that is release the figures for the total number of unique logins over the course of a week. Or over the course of a month. They have those figures. They aren't publishing them. Basically, they're doing to their investors what they did to us with the XP scandal where they would present you were getting this figure of xp, when you were actually getting a regulated reduced amount, to make you thing you were gaining more xp per event then you actually were. They're misleading their shareholders in a similar way, and to a similar purpose. It would be like a franchise owner who owns two stores will report to their shareholders that their profits are x million annually. But fail to be specific on which of the stores this applies to. What he's actually saying is that that is his revenue annually, of both stores. And when investors find out about it, he's going to get his pants sued off. They're doing the same thing here. It's extremely dubious from a legal standpoint if they aren't sharing their real world active player base with their share holders. And I don't think they are.

                    • Only person on my friends list laying D2, after they all played D1 daily, is 1 american kid...who makes a character to lvl 20 then deletes it and makes another lol My point is, Bungie killed this game not the casuals it aimed at, so if there are players loving D2 and the idea of the DL, good for you. The stats show it isnt the core fanbase of D1 though and that will certainly cost Bungie financially. If a game with this budget, after 3 years, and a sequel is only getting those numbers across 3 platforms then theres no need to argue...your see people getting sacked at Bungie come April, and that will tell the full story regarding the consequences of their decision to make a dumbed down D1,and call it a sequel. People are over looking the damage the DLC will cause to Bungies reputation to all those that are regretting buying it in advance. After 3 years im done for at least 6 months, to see if they save it, but those obliged to play it cos they paid for it already could get very angry when they see what a shit show it is....and everything points to the DLC stinky badly....when did Bungie last do a DLC and not preview the end game content??? Even POE had a preview and a worlds first. Actions speak louder than words. Only thing worse than feeling ripped off buying the sequel after loving D1 is knowing u spent even more on more shit content....RIP Destiny

                    • Check the numbers again on 12/5. They will skyrocket again. Lots of people will come back to play. They always do. It was the same case for all of Destiny 1. "Game is dead" "Game sucks" Dlc dropped and everyone came crawling back for a couple weeks then it stagnated again until the next expansion or major update.

Destiny 2's population is terrible. You know the real reason behind the spawn into empty spaces last month? A RAPIDLY dying playerbase. You know how they fixed it? Cutting servers, to artificially make it look like more people played. Less people, less islands, looks bigger. D1 gets you into matches in seconds. D2 takes me up to ten minutes to find EITHER a Crucisuck match or a PVE match. Why? Less PLAYERS. On a side note, but related: Look at the players. MORE ARE PVE. BUNGIE, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO LISTEN TO US!?!? Oh, right. You're waiting until it's too late, which it is for far too many. Hell, I myself am done after I play the DLC's I paid for at launch. You will not recover from this. Ya'll built a name for yourselves, and then burned your own kingdom down.

                      • Don't let this distract you from the the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon.

                        • If I had a dollar for each person I hear claim done with destiny but come back for each and every dlc it could probably fund D3. They aren’t great now but neither was D1, one issue vault of glass was much better than leviathan raid. Nightfall felt hard but fun , as well as artificial time spent being forever just off max. Not to mention it was totally new. Now we need to see if they right the ship or sink but I highly doubt everyone’s gone for good. People are predictable and I bet D3 will do amazing even with all these problems, gamers are too vulnerable to hype. Oh and never buy season pass for dlc if you have any sense. See how it’s shaking out first. Better than doing so then whining about it. Always see before buying. Trust but verify.

                          • Funny thing that players today can't play a game unless the player base approves of it. They stare blindly at how many people are online now in fear of being left behind. Like you see in the movies, it's better to dump someone before they dump you type of mentality. Why not enjoy the game for what it is? A player base can be as low as 2k online and still be well off with plenty of people to play with (depending on the type of game of course). Ah well, fear not, soon there will come another game which you all can join only to quickly abandon as soon as the full amount of players who bought the game doesn't stay.
