Frame Issues / Possible Mem Leak

Not exactly sure what to call this tbh, I have never had this happen in any game/system before. Destiny 2 runs fine for hours or maybe 30+ mins at a time then my fps doesn't necessarily decrease but every frame slowly unravels and what was once a buttery smooth game experience is now a choppy painful mess my eyes can't handle. So basically I can be playing, when i first launch the game, and everything is silky smooth.. a crisp 140+ fps. Eventually the frames do drop depending on the zone and the interactions but the lowest I usually get is around 98 FPS. Eventually when I turn or move the picture almost fractures and entire scenes kind of get stuck and drag across the screen while trying to transition smoothly to the next scene even if its just a slight turn from left to right. It ends up being a jagged mess that I can't really describe any better than this. It isn't artifacting but the frames seem like 20 fps jagged garbo, tho the frame count says otherwise. I'm not sure what else to say about it. I have checked my GPU and CPU thermals, OC's, usage, voltage and repaired + troubleshooted by deleting the CVARS.xml file. Nothing is wrong with my GPU OC as it has been stable forever and i disabled the OC just to make sure that wasn't the issue. I added some extra juice to my CPU again to no avail and I even turned the OC off, nothing changed. I feel as if its an odd memory leak within the game and possibly my specific GPU.. though that is just a guess, I really am not sure what could be causing this. I haven't tried adjusting my RAM OC but I again know its stable yet I can try anyway. Just to note I'm using Low settings on everything besides FXAA x16 and High Detail using a GTX Asus STRIX OC 1060 and an i5 6600k OC'd 4.4Ghz. So anyway, my thermals are fine, 55C peak on cpu with an average of 49C and 46C gpu avg with a peak of 52C. The game is basically unplayable, the frame jittering or whatever you might call this actually impacts my ability to aim and move to a certain degree. This is a huge issue for me, I've seen a few others talk about something similar and I was hoping that someone at Bungie could help me out. If yall need any other info just let me know I will do my best to help on my end.

    • GUYSS I FOUND A TEMPORARY FIX!! Spread this knowledge please! So it’s just the US servers that have the issue with loading the clan roster which then causes the stuttering. You Can simply switch to EU servers which is above the blue play button before you start the game. Then BOOM its fixed!! I was able to see my clan roster and add and play with people in the clan who are from Europe!! There was absolutely no stuttering At all! So that’s pretty much what the problem is, the US servers are glitched with the clan roster so it causes stuttering/memory leak issues. Please spread this in the help forums to help the people who have this issue. It’s better than quitting the game every hour. Also this is happening to some players regardless if they are in a clan or not. I’m sure Bungie will fix this soon

      • I think their p2p is extremely messed up. This horrible choppiness starts happening every time I do public events, when I'm doing solo story stuff, usually game runs fine. Fix this pls, ruining the game.

This problem is widespread and has nothing to do with the clan system. I have never been in a clan in the game and I have had this problem since day 1. Guess what it's day 3 now and after I beat the game I shelved it until they fixed it. Since this garbage is broken with the worst problem a pc game can have, stuttering, I need something to actually play so I bought Assassin's Creed Origins last night and now I'm playing that and it runs perfectly smooth with no issues. I cannot express how sickening stuttering has been in games over the years. At least if the game crashes you have error messages, error reports, you can diagnose possible hardware and software issues, and so on. With stuttering, there is usually no fix and no real way to diagnose the problem. Many, many games have fallen to the stutters over the years, and now Bungie sit high on that list with the worst stuttering I have quite possibly ever seen in any game. It is maddeningly horrible. I do like D2, but I will not be launching the game ever again unless they fix this. If they don't, like most companies never do, then the answer is simple, to never, ever buy their pc products again.

Happening to me again tonight. And it's not just "after playing for extended periods of time" like in their bug thread. Both times it started happening within like 30 minutes of playing, and then it would restart pretty quickly after restarting destiny, like within 10 minutes... Doing public Events seems to often be a trigger for it to start I've noticed. Other times I've had 2-3 hour sessions with no issues at all (usually when I'm doing only story missions, might be coincidence). I'm in a 100 man clan if that's really relevant, I don't want to leave it because it will be full and I won't get back in >,> Game is unplayable when it happens, literally feels like slow motion like everything is moving through water meanwhile the FPS counter shows 80+. Even setting all graphics settings to the lowest possible (I'm usually on mostly medium settings) doesn't fix the extreme choppyness/lag/slowmo... gtx 970 i5 2500k 8gb ram -still happening. Today I logged in did 2 story quests for a hour~, all fine, then I did a single public event and right at the end the choppiness/lag started. Perhaps has something to do with public events/p2p? Sigh, I just log out every time it starts happening, the frustration is not worth it, real buzzkill because I love the game otherwise.

I can't say that being in a clan isn't impacting the memory leak but the cause is almost surely not that. It directly relates to fast travel. FPS drops worsen after each fast travel, normal loading screens for the campaign don't seem to cause this issue so you may be able to avoid this issue for many hours while progressing through the story.

          • I get the same issue on my system as well, i7-3770 GTX 980Ti 16gb 1866mhz Asus Mobo Latest drivers. Have no idea why it keeps happening, all of my other games play fine, they don't do this, my temps are good too. Please upvote the thread so Bungie will see this and hopefully patch it or something

            • It’s your game continually attempting to load the clan roster in an infinite loop. Mine would get unplayable stuttering after a game or two. Left the clan, runs flawless again.

            • I'm having this issue where the longer the game runs, the worse the FPS gets. When I restart the game everything goes back to normal. I start noticing the drop after 2 hours ish of gameplay.

!IMPORTANT! Looks like i find a solution to solve the problem! it's temporary but you do not have to leave the clan! Let me explain. If you open the clan tab in the game, you can see that game cant find you clanmates, but she constantly tries. You can see constantly animated loading, like this: https://image.prntscr.com/image/Z3h_gChIR9iLMUshI9xpSA.png When I changed the server of the game in Battle.net (from Europe to USA) i find that: https://image.prntscr.com/image/4YvqTokERSq_E8mhndUK_Q.png No more loadning, game successfully displays your clanmates list, but no in my case I am alone (my clan playing on Europe server). As a result, just change you server through Battle.net. Probably you cant play with you clanmates, but you dont ned to leave the clan and game works just perfectly! What about ping: i played form Russia (St. Petersburg) and i dont have any problem with the US server. P.S. Sorry for bad language UPD Well, seems the problem is relevant only for the European server I invite my clanmates to the American server and the game and clan still working just fine

              • I am also experiencing this same issue. Running at 160+ fps (using the in game counter) Then suddenly it feels like I'm at 30. Quitting the game and restarting it in the same area and it was fine again, I've heard rumours of a memory leak. Its not my hardware before anyone asks/says.

I'd like to add a few more things, how relevant they are I am not sure but here you go. I am using a second monitor as an extended display on W10, my gaming monitor (that displays D2) is a 144hz monitor while the second monitor its a 60hz monitor and both are 1080p. I am also using Fullscreen Windowed mode and my drivers are up to date with the 388.00 GeForce Driver I also have intel's integrated graphics enabled so I can utilize quick sync for streaming. I have read in other posts that the game has used the integrated graphics over the dedicated gpu in some instances, however I'm not sure if a game is even capable of switching gpu's mid game. I can try turning intel quick sync off if need be.

                    • This happens to me after an hour or so, also I tried turning v sync on during a 110+ fps stuttery period & instead of being capped at 60hz my fps was in the low 50's with GPU allocation less than half.
