I’ve been considering getting a Nintendo Switch for some time, and I’ve started saving up just in case if I decide for sure I want one. I already know not to expect insane hardware and such, but it seems like the Switch wouldn’t need insane hardware to be enjoyable in the first place. Anyone who owns a Switch, please comment some Pro’s and Con’s of the system. Thank you in advance 🙂

In my opinion, yes. Breath of the Wild is absolutely fantastic, Mario Kart 8 is loads of fun. Disgaea 5 is also fun, if it's your style of game, as well as Pokkèn Tournament DX. In time, more games will come, as well as Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services. Once all that comes to the Switch, it'll pretty much be the most versatile and best all-around home console.

If you want to play Zelda that badly

7 RespuestasShort answer; yes. Long answer; most of the Switch's current library are indie games, and retro remasters. If you aren't into those, then you won't have a whole lot in terms of variety. The big releases they have are as follows; LoZ: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Splatoon 2. The first 2 have plenty of offline content, the third is multiplayer oriented, but has split screen, and the fourth is multiplayer oriented with no split screen. Keep in mind while I say ARMS & Spla2n are multiplayer oriented, they both have great single player modes. Unfortunately from my experience, the Switch has awful wifi reception, so there's a con.. I can go even more in detail later. I rushed my answer a bit, because I'm only on break at work.

As an owner of the Switch I'd say that you have to approach the system as a handheld with the ability to be converted into a home console and not the opposite because that could lead to disappointment. There is nothing wrong with the system mechanically, it is enjoyable and ok to use.But two huge warnings : 1) This system is not meant for online play and social/internet/chat functionalities are implemented poorly and awkwardly. 2) Unfortunately it will still fall under the Nintendo console heritage in terms of games. The Switch will primarily host the sequels of Nintendo's classic series and apart from those it will feature indie games, ports, remakes and the typical JRPGs, strategy games and dungeon crawlers. In conclusion, the Switch is a durable and fun system but before you buy there is this question : "Are you satisfied purchasing a gadget on which you will mostly play Zelda, Mario, Pokemon or an X unknown title while you are given the choice to play on a big TV or on the go ?" If the answer is "yes" then it is a must buy. If the answer is " I don't know, maybe not" then I cannot recommend it.

1 RespuestaThe main reason I always see is Zelda, but I never really played a Zelda game so that doesn't wow me as much. Though admittedly, while I once would have scoffed the idea of buying a console for a single game... I did buy a PS4 for Bloodborne so I suppose it isn't entirely out of the question.

2 RespuestasRight now I say get it if you can find one, and then pick up the current first party games (Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms, Splatoon 2) . Skyrim is coming later this year if that's something that interests you, if not there is Super Mario Odyssey, Metroid Prime 4, and future Pokémon games confirmed. The Mario and Rabbids game also seems to be a decent game. The battery life in handheld mode isn't the greatest, and the internal storage is lacking as well, but these things aren't big issues for myself, as I usually play in console mode and I have mostly physical carts for the system. Also a micro SD card can fix the storage issue fairly easily. Besides that I can't think of any thing that might deter someone from getting it, besides the slight lack of their party support at the moment (though there are a good amount of confirmed third party games as well as indi titles).

Payday 2 is coming to the switch (:

Up to each individual. For me, no not yet. Ask me again in 6months - 1 year and I might have a different answer depending on how things are looking. For me, 300 bucks isn't worth it to play 2-3 games that interest me.
-
Wait till more games come out and then buy the bundles
-
Pros: quality games like BotW & MarioKart, next level of gaming while on the toilet, joycons are pretty cool Cons: not many titles available, battery life isn't stellar in portable mode, expensive accessories
-
4 RespuestasDude. Metroid prime 4 is coming out
-
Pros: Portable everything Lots of exclusives Very, very fast (just press the home button and pick up where you left off, it's super convenient) Lots of Indies (Shantae, Stardew Valley, Rocket League) Cons: Pretty Expensive considering it doesn't come with games Short battery life Lack of major 3rd party titles The Switch is what it set out to be: A portable home console that plays Nintendo games. It's not much more than that, because you likely have another console for 3rd party games and multi media functionality. In my opinion, it's worth it, and by the end of the year, I'll believe that even more.

1 RespuestaMine is still basically a Zelda machine until something good comes out. It's an awesome Zelda machine though. If you're interested in ARMS or Splatoon Id say get it.
-
I'd say yes since you said you don't have a Wii U. The two biggest games, BotW and Mario Kart 8, are both on the Wii U too. Splatoon 2 isn't on the Wii U, but I'd recommend not buying a console for a single game.
-
No but it might be in 3-4 years from now when Pokemon and Metroid releases.
-
Dont have much time so bump for later pls. Pro: -Portability -most games that are already out are great -more awesome games to come Cons: -You'll be charging a lot in Handheld mode
-
really only depends if you like the usual nintendo games like mario, zelda, metroid and so on. if you want to play them, get the switch. apart from that its more of a handheld, so if you travel a lot thats a pro. imo: the console itself is pretty meh, BUT i dont game whilst travelling and i played so much of nintendo in my youth that the franchises dont interest me that much anymore. that is just my pov though!!
-
1 RespuestaI laugh when people talk hardware/power when talking console. To be clear i do recommend it.
-
4 RespuestasThe Switch is worth it. Unless that is you have a Wii U.
-
Curious self-bump

If you're into handheld gaming and think you'll use the feature, I'd say buy it! It's a great console and a great handheld device. Like others have said, the game library isn't great at the moment, but it's a great device with awesome potential. BOTW is great and Mario Odyssey looks legit!
-
I'd wait for the online functions to go live if i was you, then buy the games that are out now used
-
Pros- it's insanely fun Cons- only real con is there isn't too many games that may not appeal to everyone. If you love JRPGs then you'll be fine though.
