So I wrote a reply to another post that made me want to rewrite it as my own topic.
On the subject of recycling/rehashing content/areas, just what exactly are people complaining about?
This is strictly talking about the areas that we play in, NOT weapons and armor, (Because I agree there is a good amount of recycling/reskinning there) and the stories that went with them.
All of the dlcs added completely new areas with various new activities in each, and plenty of story changes between them (quality of story is a different matter that I'm not discussing here). This is more true for the later two than the first two, but still there was new content. Let's break this down:
Crota's End: not necessarily a TOTALLY new area, but there where small parts of the destinations that weren't available before and the raid area was completely unique and pretty massive.
House of Wolves: similar to CE, not very large areas that were added on to existing ones. However, it introduced the Prison of Elders, which is a pretty big arena area.
The Taken King: added a massive ship that was a completely new destination with extensive tunnels and secrets, with an arena that provided dozens of different encounters. The raid area was also pretty massive.
Rise of Iron: added a new patrol zone that, yes, reskinned the original Earth zone, but also added on a vast new section that doubled its size. It also had a similar arena to TTK, and again, a massive raid area.
Now it is true that in SOME story missions/strikes you run backwards through these areas, but if you stop for 5 seconds to listen to/read why you're there, you'll realize that the story is different every time. It's not illegal to reuse an area, especially if it suits what's happening in the story.
