The reason behind the PVP complaints is pretty simple: Destiny 1 gave you all terrible game sense

So after 3 years of crying about primary weapons being too weak, Bungie went and gave us a game that is very primary dependent yet everyone is crying. Why? It's not because the TTK is drastically higher because if you land your headshots it's pretty similar. It's not because power weapons suck because they dont. All these people crying about crutch grenades, crutch special weapons, etc. "they are why I suck and lose in the crucible". If only the game was primary focused I would win. Yet, they didnt realize that they were the same people who where depending on having that tracking grenade up every 30 seconds. They were depending on that skating with a shotgun to get kills, the 12m melee range, etc.. When we finally get down to it, where your aim, positioning, and decision making matter, all those whiners that cried and expected themselves to suddenly get gud because there arent "crutches" anymore find out that their aim, positioning, and decision making suck. Destiny 1 held your hand. Your movement and escape abilities let you get out of bad situations too easily, the strength of shotguns and movement let you close gaps that you shouldnt, and the higher aim assist of destiny 1 coupled with the fact that you DIDNT need to land all headshots for the max TTK and you have all these players saying how bad the game is. Team shotting doesnt make the game bad, it just means you need to play as a TEAM more and dont try and challenge a 1v3. Less nades doesnt make the game bad, it just means you cant toss a tracking nade around a corner to get a free push in with your shotgun. LEARN how to position and hold angles. Learn how to bait out players into the open during strafe fights. Learn how to land shots consistently rather than spamming like you could in Destiny 1. I hate the whole just adapt thing that people say when things are overpowered but for -blam!-s sake, adapt. This isnt a case of anything being broken, this is a case of the overall intelligence of the Destiny PVP community being stunted by how mindless and broken abilities were in Destiny 1. Are there some things that need tweaked? Sure, they could increase the charge rate on abilities, but seriously. This iteration of PVP is SOOOOOOOOO much better and skillful and is exactly what was being asked for so while you all complain about it, maybe think as you got destroyed by their team, that you were in fact playing like a dumbass

    • The funny thing is, EVERY SINGLE PERSON in D1 let me repeat that, EVERY SINGLE PERSON whos sucks in D1 is still bad in D2. All the best players aka Gods are still Gods in D2. Crutches or not if you suck you suck, simple as that.

        • The reason behind the complaints is a little more simple: not everyone wanted to play a traditional primary-focused fps. Some people actually liked Destiny's PvP for what it was, complete with grenades, Supers, specials, heavies, and subclass abilities like invisibility and force barrier. D1's crazy-varied PvP gave the player more scope for creativity, and didn't tether him/her to fireteam. The player could synergize perks, loadout, and playstyle for maximum performance. No, it wasn't cookie-cutter, primary-focused, sort of combat-realistic stuff like CoD or Halo, but it didn't have to be. People who want CoD and Halo should just play those games, instead of forcing Destiny into that same mold.

        • This entire post is one big strawman. Sure, there's people who legitimately crutched on shotguns and ability spam who are pissed off that they now suck because they lack their OHKs There are also people who hate the change that are legit players. They'd wipe the floor with you no matter what loadout they were using. They don't crutch on anything and their criticism of the game is instead based on objective opinion rather than personal bias (e.g. "I'm doing well in the Beta so it's great!") I fit in the last group. The casuals who want to enjoy the game rather than try their asses off every match. (I know, it's weird, right? How dare we play a video game to have fun?) But this game is bland. Teamshots dominate every engagement because primaries are too weak to consistently handle 1v1 scenarios. The guns that have actual character to them like snipers or fusions are hard to acquire ammo for. Abilities were used too much in D2, but Bungie committed overkill in nerfing them and their cooldowns. Movement is slow and clunky. Larger 6v6 playlists that previously had enough space to play with lots of friends are gone. And on the topic of the thesis you've outlined: You're generalizing the entire community as the people who were one-hit-wonders in the Matador meta. But you fail to realize D2's skill gap is very small. It plays slow, so things like reaction speed and anticipation/combat foresight are entirely useless. Teamshotting completely negates the need for individual gun skill. Movement is another area where the good players were really separated from the bad, but our clunky guardians are no good in that respect any more. Just like the fabled primary meta that we supposedly had after the February special ammo nerf, this whole "D2 takes more skill than D1" thing is utter bullshit.

          • Bungie just can't win anymore. People complained about Destiny 1 PvP being too ability based and wanted a PvP that was more gunplay centric. Bungie delivered that and now Destiny 2 is supposed to be worst because they listened to who's input? Oh wait that's right, we asked for this.

The only things I don't like from a PVP perspective currently: Grenades and Punch damage is so low that continuing to use the Primary is actually better currently removing any use for punch and reducing the use for grenades to area prevention mostly. 2 I don't personally like how the K/D now presents Kills and assists, while I do understand this I would still like to know how many people I actually killed compared to how many assists I got without having to figure it out in the closing screen. Outside of this PVP did feel a lot better, I would personally like to see people get their super twice a game instead of once right at the end just so it doesn't feel quite so much like traditional FPS PVP games. Overall a massive improvement on D1, even if I still don't like the new weapon loadouts.

That is an extremely good point. Almost everyone had a nice little ability they would use all the time: skating, grenade, shadestep, spawning with OHKO weapons, or even (my fav) warlock melee. Almost all of these are more sparse in dense 2. Grenades are not spammable, dodging isn't spammable, thunderstrike doesn't exist, power ammo has to be found (though that tasty warlock base melee still does exist hue) Dense 1 was based around the abilities, it differed it from other fps's more Id say, but i honestly don't think they realized PvP would become such a large part of the game. Destroying mobs in PvE with abilities was fun. But in PvP, those mobs are other people.

So you basically want Destiny's PVP to be just like every other generic shooter on the market... Got it... The abilities and crazy weapons is what makes Destiny different. What you are calling for is the equivalent of playing Titanfall, where the titans were only available for a few seconds out of every match. In both cases, it would, and in betas case, does, make the game boring. If you want to play a purely gun based PVP, then there are plenty of games on the market that offer exactly that. Destiny shouldn't be one of them.

Sometimes it's just nice to hope on with your brothers and friends in a fireteam of 6 and just play a fun shooter GAME without having to be MLG and shit like I'm fighting for the esport champion belt!!! I get the whole 4v4 though... it's fun but frustrating at times. I hope d2 will have options of 4v4 and 6v6.

                • I love the new PVP and even after not playing D1 for several months, I felt like I was doing waaaaaay better not having to deal with blinking hunters (warlocks, too, it just always felt like it was a hunter doing it) with shotguns, people that hide and snipe almost exclusively, people that rely on a billion (hyperbole) supers and nades all match, and just overall kills that felt unfair/unearned. I would like to see a slight bump in energy gains and I can't stand scout rifles and nade launchers, but other than that, it felt pretty good.

                • I LOVE the new pvp. I had good games, great games and shitty games. It's still a shitload of fun to play. I never relied on just my grenades and melees in the first place so the cool down is no big deal to me. I love using primary weapons. Vex, doctrine, suros, hand cannons. I guess Destiny pvp has turned to the way I'VE always played. Primary first!!!!

                  • I was one of the ones who was the most vocal about abilities and sidearms being over powered. Yet here I am in the beta playing against the year 3s who thought they were amazing when in reality, they're actually terrible because they relied on what you mentioned. Not everyone who hates the crutches of D1 is a terrible player. What I do find is that people who go back to D1 and hate D2 usually weren't very good in the first place.

bland basic and simplistic pew pew primary shoot fest. that's what it's come down to. Instead of having a variety of weapons and abilities and learning to deal with them in combination, we've now got your basic garbage PVP FPS shooter. Nothing unique. People liking this and comparing it to Halo should just go an play halo. Or some actual competitive shooter. I liked the abilities and weapons in D1. This is just boring and catered to the lowest common denominator of players.

                    • I'm happy about abilities got nerfed. Players would almost 100% rely on them. Some players wouldn't even engage unless they had a grenade ready. Fusions obviously were broken too. I'm not happy about movement feeling so unresponsive. I'm ok that it's a little slower. Movement just feels to awkward and it feels like I'm playing underwater. Movement was so crisp and fast in D1. I loved everything about it. In air accuracy on guns is terrible now. On top of that Warlock makes u float in air when u shoot and their is no way to take that ability off. By floating and not being able to cancel the jump it leaves u vulnerable. U can (O,O) evade out of it but still it's bad. This takes away in air combat w handcannons. Also, the hit detection and AA on weapons was nerfed. Sometimes my hits won't even register till a couple shots later (it's not lag). Hopefully it's just cause it's a beta server. Their are so many things I like but I can't stand movement and hit detection. Maneuverability was so important in D1. The better u could outsmart or outmaneuver your opponent, the better u were. Now, u can't really do that cause we are slower and the movement isn't fluid at all. I like the no sprint lock change but I can't stress enough how bad and unresponsive movement is. That my #1 issue, and I only have a couple of issues. PVE obviously got the shaft by tons of changes made to PVP, but again movement is so off. That's my opinion.

Agreed. Example. In D1, I could carelessly throw a grenade, knowing I'm getting it back quickly. Now, I better make the best out of every nade I throw. I love the new PvP. It's finally balanced.

                        • Complainers are going to complain, no matter what. Doesnt matter what changes, they will still complain and pass blame for their lack of skill onto other things. Only thing i really want changed is the radar. I want the dely in it reappearing when exiting from ADS to be gone. Its good to be able to have a quick radar check as you round a corner with a weapon aimed, but cant do that because of the delay, its annoying.
