Title pretty much sums it up. Sony is most likely the sole company responsible for why we can't put our console differences aside and play as just gamers, instead, like we are now, as PlayStation, Xbox, PC, etc gamers.
It would be much easier without exclusives, but even with, it's doable. Keep the exclusive strike/crucible map out of rotation. Or if you leave it in, only match PS players in it. And the exclusive weapons or armor? Would be too much trouble to disable them in cross-play, imo, so let PS users have it and use it. PC/Xbox can view/inspect them and get killed by it, which might even sway some people to buy a PS as they can more easily see what they're.
Now, I make no secret of being an Xbox player. Never owned and rarely played a PS, so maybe my view is colored. I believe that Sony is limiting this because this is their way of trying to force people to stay on their console, which is, hardware wise, inferior to both a properly built PC and the upcoming Xbox One X (now with 50% more Xs). If people could cross-play, I think more people would leave PS, but that's my opinion, and not really the point of this thread (unless of course, most agree with me on that's why Sony is limiting cross-play).
Tl;dr, Sony is being petty and selfish by not allowing friends on different consoles to play together.
