I will be getting an Xbox Scorpio and a 4k TV, my current TV is 60 hz, a 1080p TV. I don't notice any lag while moving around.
When getting a 4k TV do I really need 120 hz? Or is this just an overrated feature? I'm ok gaming at 4k and 30 fps.
Curious as to what everyone's thoughts are on this

The Scorpio will likely not even run games at over 60fps. 60Hz will be fine.
-
Don't get 120Hz if the console can't handle more than 60 FPS.
-
I realize my initial statement is confusing regarding refresh rate vs fps. Not sure how much different those 2 are though

Doing 30 in a 60 fps zone, minor citation

4 RespuestasI could be way off but my understanding is the refresh rate is the speed at which the pixels themselves change. At 4K you have a much higher density of pixels per square inch versus the lower resolution sets. At a lower refresh rate the screen can appear to "ghost" (blur or smear) a fast moving image. Since a lot more information is being presented at one time and being sent more signals in a smaller amount of time (the difference between panning your view from left to right versus a static or slow moving image) a higher refresh rate (Hertz) is preferable. This way the change in image demand is met at a faster rate and the final representation you see on screen is "on time" and actual instead of delayed, broken and or smeared. Hope this makes some sense. I have a LG 65" 4K OLED. The picture is beautiful and there are a lot of bells and whistles. Unfortunately the processor has difficulty outputting an unbroken image with them all turned on. It's too much visual information to put on screen at the appropriate time. Albeit, I think this is more of a processor shortcoming than a refresh rate issue in itself. I could be wrong though.

I heard that it's possible to oc the hrtz to a monitor. Is that safe and about how many hrtz can you usually oc the monitor

Scorpio will not run anything over 60fps. And id take a good guess and say alot of games will still be at 30fps. So unless you have other things besides gaming that will require 120 or a pc id say go 60.

1 RespuestaIf you're only on console then there is no point in going 120hz as the hardware can't output that. if you're on PC and you want to play competitive MP/tournaments/LAN parties, the high frame rate makes a big difference.
-
I may be wrong but maybe 120 Hz would be better for movies then 60 but I don't think you'll notice playing games on console
-
60fps on console for me is perfect. I don't need it higher. But on PC, I like higher fps.

4 RespuestasI don't know. I went with a 240 hz in anticipation for Scorpio

For televisions the only difference is that a "120 Hz" tv will interpolate to 120 frames; it won't run games at 120 frames because it will only accept a 60Hz signal.
-
If games on the Scorpio are locked at 30 or 60 fps, you'll get no benefit from 120hz
-
4 RespuestasThe difference is massive, but Scorpio won't hit those frames.
-
6 RespuestasA 120Hz TV won't give you much benefit if the games don't also run at that frame rate. Also, in my experience, a lot of 120Hz TVs use interpolation (blending frames together to fake 120Hz) which causes a lot of input lag when gaming.

1 RespuestaI'm leaning 120, but just so everyone knows, there are tons of 60(120 motion) models

Editado por Psychic Donuts: 6/3/2017 11:52:59 PMYou're not talking about frames right? Hertz just means per second. Assuming your not and you're talking about refresh rate; there is a difference but not a big oneto the casual player.

I don't know about 4k but I just went from a vizio 43 inch 1080 with a 60 refresh. On xbone, my latency was 96milliseconds(below 100 is respectable, 150 is the high limits). My new 42 inch 120 refresh is 57milliseconds. Quite a difference, but I don't really notice anything other then a sharper image.

You'd need 120hz content, I don't think there will be enough of that to warrant the price difference between 60 and 120, that's assuming you can find a 4K display that doesn't to 120hz like the other guy said you wouldn't be able to.

4 Respuestas120 is the the new 60hz. All 4ks run 120 or higher, mine runs at 240hz
