Anyone else skeptical about the loadout system in D2?

From a PvP standpoint I can see why they went this route. It will vastly reduce the stranglehold shotguns and sniper rifles had on the crucible. But from a PvE standpoint I don't see any benefit. Having shotguns, fusions, and sniper rifles grouped up with rocket launchers and machine guns will limit our ability to adapt to different situations. Before we were able to wield both a sniper rifle to take on Tanky bosses and rocket launchers and machine guns to deal with mobs of enemies. Now it seems like we're gonna constantly have to switch up our power weapons to deal with different threats, losing our ammo in the process, instead of just simply pressing a button. This system just seems to limit our weapon choice for pve engagement instead of broaden it. Plus,in my opinion, I don't really see how a sniper rifle or shotgun fits into the POWER weapon category, unless bungie plans on completely overhauling their damage.

  • I'm still a bit skeptical, but I'm keeping an opened mind about it. We only saw one strike and the boss seemed to move too much for snipers to really be effective. Not liking what people are saying about the flinch still being there if we won't be using them so much either. From what I've heard fusion rifles are staying the same and let's be honest, those may be the hardest to master. Raid teams will most likely be made up of half boss dps, half add control. All in all it's interesting to think about, but I'd be lying if I said I won't miss my voops.

Being a titan the new supers don't look great to me at the moment. I don't want to be captain America.(lazy effort bungee) I don't want to toddler temper tantrum around the map with the new striker build. A smash is cool.but bang bang bang looks childish to me at this time... And a small wall.......... shooting from cover is best left in the division. I think bungee just need a really good crack and rum party to get some new crazy ideas to keep the game paving the way..not just using ideas that are already out there. Just my opinion and hoping further game play will get me hooked again. O yer, remember strippers.

  • The fact that you can have an elemental version of anything kinetic in a different slot will be the death of the kinetic slot. If you could let me equip one kinetic fatebringer and one arc fatebringer at the same time, why the hell would I use the kinetic one ever?

No. I play D1 now and can't stand it. It feels broken and shitty after playing the new system. Edit: it doesn't limit play, it expands it. Right now particularly in boss encounters, specials are useless outside snipers and if you're sniping, you're using like Spindle and not your heavy. Having an SMG or hand cannon as a secondary made pve play MUCH more varied. I was switching between my two primaries way more than I'd use a secondary now and I could still use my fusion or rocket if I wanted. I think when people play it they'll realize this is how it always should have been

It provides a far more tactical approach to combat. The structure for weapon usage: > Kinetics for all unshielded mobs. Take your preference for precision kills here, as it will be your go-to weapon for quickly eliminating simple enemies. > Energy weapons are for shielded enemies and specific boss DPS. This slot will let you preserve your Kinetic ammo against Wizards, Captains and other shielded foes, as well as giving you a chance to deal more damage when fighting bosses that have an elemental preference. > Power weapons are purely for Majors, Elites and Bosses. Just preserve the ammo you have for these weapons until you find a meaty target who needs a powerful shot to the face. Before you say, "what about the triple element combo?" or "I don't want to switch weapons constantly!", I suggest taking the time to prepare before you go into a mission. A first playthrough may not grant you the chance, but once you learn about enemy races and types at each activity, you can appropriately prepare for those enemies before you start the mission.

        • It looks wonderful for crucible. For strikes and raids with bullet sponges, I don't know. But they are smarter than that so I'm sure they will design those encounters to be doable with the new load outs. Honestly, the only reason I am not so fond of it is that there is essentially less diversity now. Sure you can use 2x the primary, but 1/2 the special and heavy we are used to. This also means that there will naturally be more primaries in the game and less power weapons designed, which is disappointing. That is what is fun in D1. Running a pistol a fusion and a sword and switching all through the strike for each enemy type.

        • I think if snipers, shotties, and fusions have some sort of intristict perk where they get more ammo drops, or the ammo drops give more ammo for them, then when switching to a actual heavy like a rocket or lmg, the ammo tranfered is greatly reduced or you just lose it all, so you don't use a shotty to farm ammo for a heavy? Something like that should keep them relevant in PvE, so you get use out of them.

        • They've definitely changed the way the sandbox works as well, judging from the fact that it doesn't take 20 whole minutes to burn down the boss of the Inverted Spire without using snipers.

          • Raids will definitely be effected. Primary only situations will be abundant. So if the boss sits on a pedestal Auto-rifles and Hand-cannons might as well go out the window with their damage drop-off.

          • I hope it makes PvE not an easy cheesefest. Lol. The fact that good players are often able to solo just about anything in a reasonable time (barring raid mechanics) says a lot about how PvE in D1 was designed. Boss fights are almost entirely rooted in the bullet sponge design, yet stacking perks like Shadowshot, incoming damage modifiers, and Weapons of Light makes most of these "bullet sponge" bosses downable in seconds. The only non-raid boss fight that is even remotely difficult is Kovik with Void modifier. But, that's primarily because they made him fight exactly like Taniks, but added a stupid ogre that random aggros and no amount of skill can make that less annoying lol.

Do i wish i could continue to walk around with my hand cannon shotgun and sword? yes, i do but its not THAT bad. Think of it like this: since there is no "special" weapons any more, and power weapons can be anywhere from point blank range burst damage, to super long range precision damage and players will now have 2 primaries (think along the lines of bringing a AR / SMG around while also having a scout rifle or something). That allows for a long range and close / mid range weapons at the same time with power weapons being for when something really needs to die at w /e range you have the weapon for. Also this will be something built into the game from the start and not like a change in a patch, meaning that bungie will balance all PvE content around having 1 sniper shotgun rocket sword grenade launcher etc. that is for heavy damage and then all primary damage outside of that. Meaning that they can not make bosses have such insane amounts of health that they can survive a barrage of constant sniper and rocket fire while primaries are for ads. To put it into destiny 1 raid / strike scenarios, The boss can be designed to be fought mainly with primary weapons with maybe some windows to burn heavy ammo instead of being designed to be able to survive a never ending stream of special and heavy ammo with primary ammo being not worth shooting at the boss. At least that is one way it could be handled in PvE, another way would be more bosses like oryx that are damaged through mechanics rather than player fire, though i hope that is not the case for all bosses. Normal mobs shouldn't be a problem either way, because having 2 primaries against normal enemies will be more than enough to take them out.

          • I do and dont like it i think for the fusion rifle and shotgun to be in the heavy slot is kinda weird like for the fusion rifle they should've just made them heavy fusion rifles like the sleeper as for shotguns i dunno what they could've done i guess just keep them in the special slot i get why they moved them but at least do it in a way that makes sense like why would i pick one of those over a grenade launcher or rocket launcher or even an lmg for my heavy option

          • For weapons categories I think that bungie has lost the plot and it not just weapons that are messed up you can include character customisation as well. They had a reasonable setup for D1 so why not for D2 it just commonsense that something works you keep it and if it doesn't work you replace it with something that does work not the opposite way around. If things don't change then bungie will have a train wreck on their hands

          • I disagree. First of all we dont know how bosses and weapons interact yet so we cant make any assumptions on power weapon damage. Also i love the opportunity of having beastly shotguns, snipers, and fusions on par with rockets and hmgs that would never have been allowed in the special slot.
