  • Go try another fast firing handcannon type like how dare you. You'll see buffing thorn would destroy any use for guns in that archetype.

      Haven't used Thorn that much since it was buffed so I can't have a solid opinion on it. I will say that I loved it when the reload speed, stability and range were so awful that it made you question why you were using it in the first place. Oh and the 6-shot mag size was a nightmare combined with the fast fire-rate. Pre-buff Thorn was best Thorn.

    • Let me reiterate my post on thorn and the problems with buffing it damage on the tick damage. We've all seen the posts on how thorn should be buffed, and some believe simply increasing the Damage over time should just be increased to 3 as a small buff. I however believe this to not be helpful, as it will allow the 3 shot body-shot to return, which is exactly why it was nerfed to 2 ticks of damage. Sure the artifact will negate most of the damage, but at what point would you ever take it off once you realize you will simply die from 3 body-shots? That will negate the use of the other artifacts which is what I'm pretty sure we don't want. So, I've come up with a proposal and have worked it out a bit. Instead of increasing the damage overall by buffing the DoT damage, we can increase the DoT damage without increasing damage overall. It's rather simple: The initial shot damage (Which is the first number that pops up before the 4 ticks of 2 damage.) should be reduced by 2-6 damage, and the number of ticks for the DoT damage be increased by 1-3 (we'll go with 2 for the figure.) Figure below: [spoiler] [+2 is the DoT damage tick.] Original crit damage (Without aggressive ballistics.): 79 +2x4=87 Original body damage (Without aggressive ballistics.): 53 +2x4=61 Modified crit damage (Without aggressive ballistics.): 75 +2x6=87 Modified body damage (Without aggressive ballistics.): 49 +2x6=61 Original crit damage (With aggressive ballistics.) 81 +2x4=89 Original body damage (With aggressive ballistics.) 54 +2x4=62 Modified crit damage (With aggressive ballistics.) 77 +2x6=89 Modified body damage (With aggressive ballistics.) 50 +2x6=62 [/spoiler] --- Noting that the DoT damage isn't effected by range, it would act as a slight range buff as well. That is my Suggestion, feel free to express your opinion or ideas here.

    • I think they should undo the range nerf and make the DoT 4 instead of 2. And if people hate that remember there's that artifact that reduces it

      • it's fine where it is. people are just spoiled from the y1 thorn (btw if I can stop shotgun rushers with it, I consider it to be in a good place).

          • Really it's handcannons in general. Poor initial accuracy combined with a wide bloom cone just makes them feel inconsistent. And before anyone says "well don't try to use it outside of its range," even in range, that inconsistency still shows up way too much. Also the heavy reliance on range buffs drags them down, allowing for almost no customization. Things like Rifled Barrel or Hammer forged are not solutions, they are band aids.

            • Wells here is a question, I know that I rarely see people use it in PvP. Is this because it sucks or because nobody has it because the quest is an RNG drop

              • Maybe reduce the "zoom in" factor because damn... I feel like i'm jamming the sights into my skull every time I aim down sight.

                You know, it's actually a pretty underrated gun that people can wreck with. It, even after its range nerf, has a lot more range with Send It than anything else in its archetype. The DoT doesn't do notable damage by any means but it prevents health regen and gives you the opponent's location, which should honestly be its only job. Only buff I'd honestly make at this point is lengthening DoT duration a bit just to emphasize its job as a regen cancel as well as a makeshift tracker. It's not bad. It'd probably be close to a top-tier weapon if bloom were removed.

              • No. As some one that was there during the hell that was thorn no. The thorn at its current area can do more than anoth damage to kill a rusher or some one at close or mid range and with dot you can still get clutch kills with it just not as much as before . Also if any thing the rest of hand cannons need to be range nerfed in general. Hand cannons range atm for some are still far to high with some like the eyasluna and last word still being able to map you. Hand cannons in general for me should have always been short to short mid any thing else should just be random luck if it hits and should be like 5% chance at most. Really assault rifles should be mid range. Handcanons short range. Scout rifles long /mid Pulse short /mid. This would deal with alot of issues by making hand cannons at close range hit like a train but at any thing more than close they feel like being hit with a BB gun. The issue is with destiny is balancing for pve and pvp don't go well together and trying to make all weapons have an equal chance in all occasions just kills the game. Assault rifles have been nerfed to the point they have no real place in the game. Scout rifles are out gunned by pulse rifles in most range battles. Hand cannons can outgun a pulse or scout at mid. Honestly the whole game needs a complete overhaul and rebalancing for every weapon. Pvp and pve stats for guns should not be related either. Meaning in pvp gun stats should run from a separate system than in pve.(like bungie said it would when they first said about destiny and how pve and pvp would play)

                • The only thing that should be buffed with Thorn is the range. Don't put it back where it was. Instead of nerfing it by -25, they should have nerfed it by -10 / -15. The -25 was a little too much. The dot is fine where it is. Before this last "balance" it was a really good hand canon. Not OP, just really good. Now it's meh. I have been using it alot the last week or so because I got the Rose of Corruption shader. I don't PvP a whole lot, but in PvE it could definitley use a buff. JMO

                • Keep it's damage output but make it more consistent (buff the range and slightly boost stability)

                • Im looking at this from a PvE view The main use of the gun in year one was to keep shields down, cancel healing for adds like knights, and to stagger those stupid phalanxes behind their shields. Right now it sucks at all three Its DoT doesn't last long enough to keep shields down anymore It's damage for its burn is lackluster and can even out the healing anymore The burn doesn't stagger phalanxes much anymore This gun is replaced by any gun you can imagine because it simply to too weak to fulfill its niché in PvE

                  • The last nerf was to much. Its damage drop off over range now is way to high to be a useable weapon and the DoT is far to weak.
