So GoPro announced their drone Karma last week and I must say, it looked pretty impressive. It folded up making it great for carrying and had the camera mount on the front with a gimbal. The best part was the gimbal could be removed then used with a handheld for a steadycam. That was a pretty big plus for me.
Jumpcut to this week where DJI introduced their new drone Mavic. Mavic is impressive as it had all the features of the Phantom 4 but in a smaller package. It also has a front facing gimballed camera so no more propellers in your shots, especially if moving forward at a high speed.
Now, here's why I think the DJI Mavic will outsell the GoPro Karma:
Mavic is smaller. So much smaller that you can fit it inside any bag or even a big pocket. The Karma still needs a dedicated bag for carrying.
Mavic has a top speed of around 40mph.
Karma tips out around 35mph I believe.
Battery life: Mavic-27 minutes. Karma-20 minutes.
The only advantage I see the Karma having is the removable gimbal that allows you to use the gopro for multiple purposes. This is good if you already have a gopro or plan on using it for shooting different types of video. The Mavic's camera can't be removed.
So comparing the two, I think they both would be great but I think the Mavic has the edge. If I already had a GoPro and was determined to shoot handheld as well I'd really consider the Karma but my main focus right now is on aerial photos and video so Mavic seems the better choice.

3 RespuestasWent to the beach house this past july 4th week. The neighbors had a high end drone with a camera that live playback on the remote and phone. Said it could travel 3.5 miles away. He flew it over the ocean at night when i was talking to him, then all you seen was the aviation lights take a nose dive into the ocean. Gave him a beer and went back to the beach chair.

2 RespuestasNah i dont think so...Karma is an all around great drone that isnt only a drone. You can attach and detach it to use the Go Pro

8 RespuestasInteresting view, but GOPro has made a well known name for them selves by selling high quality cameras that are practical to use and don't cost you a fortune. The Karma's camera also has better picture quality than the maverick does. In reality, most people don't want to buy the drones because of how expensive they are for only being able to take shots while flying. The karma gives the costumers the unique shot capabilities of the drones, amazing picture qualities of the regular go pros and being able to utilize the whole package for more than just aerial shots, which saves costumers money.

Gimbals from DJI are superior, and so are the controls. I don't see the point of buying the karma when you can get the Mavic.

3 RespuestasEditado por The Cellar Door: 9/29/2016 4:35:07 PMAn interesting take, but I think assuming the Mavic will outsell the Karma is a function of neglecting the concept of branding and how that reflects on sales. GoPro has built itself up as a household name by now. The ROI on their marketing schemes is huge, which is evident by the amount at which they do market their product. They'll absolutely sell more regardless of the quality of the product. That's how effective marketing works.
