Stop me if you already know this. Or rather, stop yourself. I'm sure I'm not the first person to figure this out. Having said that, there's definitely a lot of confusion within the community regarding the efficacy of Three of Coins. This past weekend, I have been trying to figure out exactly how they work to increase my chances of receiving a Trespasser. Thus, here is my philosophy on the exact workings of the Three of Coins:
When you use your initial Three of Coins, you receive a chance to get an Exotic. While the exact percentage is unknown, I am fairly confident when I say let's assume it is roughly a 10% chance that an Exotic Engram will drop. Now, Bungie has stated previously that consecutive Three of Coins usage will increase the chances so long as you do not get an Exotic. They've also said that killing Ultras in rapid succession will produce a diminished result, but not that it is impossible to receive an Engram in this way. So let us assume that consecutive usage in the way Bungie intended adds an additional 10% to the chance to receive an Exotic Engram. This means that your fifth consecutive Coin is a 50% chance to yield an Exotic Engram, which explains why most people receive an Engram roughly every 4 to 6 Coins. However, if you use Coins in rapid succession, the result is diminished. For the sake of argument, let us assume it is halfed: 5%. This means that by the same fifth Coin used in this manner, your chance of success is only 30%. The diminished return may be an even lower percentile.
Once again, I must emphasize that if you already knew this information, please resist the urge to condescend in the comments. This post is meant for people to whom Bungie's official word on the item was not entirely clear. I am not even sure if this information is necessarily correct, but I think it is most likely a good approximation of the knowledge needed to use them efficiently. Oh, and since I probably won't have anything worthwhile to contribute to the forums until then, enjoy Rise of Iron, Guardians!

72 RespuestasEditado por UltimatebluE II: 9/12/2016 4:30:38 PMKill ultra knight on dreadnought Kill draksis ; kill yourself to keep CP Kill ogre and cabal boss in regicide mission; kill cabal boss then die, kill ogre and leave cabal, go to orbit to keep CP Kill 3 bosses in black garden mission go to orbit straight after killing 3rd boss to keep CP Return to tower to drop off exotics Rinse and repeat;; only kill each boss once then move on to the next I get loads of engrams Edit. You can add the gate Lord boss to the list, that should easily get you to 15 min runs

No, no, no. That's all wrong. You have to pop 5, three-of-coins at once with the Glohoo shader equipped. You have to wait 15 minutes after taking the first set of coins before getting into the pool or you will cramp. Then, when you get out of the pool, your chances of an exotic increase by 17%. Take 2 more coins. Then go arrrouuuuund town. Then stop. Then do crucible clash. You have to have the Eidolon Ally in your equipment, but not equipped!! This is crucial. If you use a the Last Word, Bungie will actually remove an exotic from your inventory. Fact. Now go down on the Cryptarch. Wait for it... Now jump around the tower, but slide up stairs. That part is very important. You must not take stairs standing upright!!! Now leave the tower. You must stay in orbit until the next reset. Start the process over. After two resets you will get an exotic. It will be approximately 38 light levels below yours. Don't worry about that, because you will need this exotic for its shard. Now go back to the tower. Go down on the Cryptarch. Wait for it... Now jump around and slide up stairs. Okay, dismantle the exotic. Take the shard to the vault, kiss it, and place it carefully inside. Now exit the vault and go back to orbit. That's it.

5x 10% does not make 50% chance. I can't stress this enough for when people expects results based on that.
-
2 RespuestasIm pretty sure it only diminishes after you've received an exotic, maybe thats what you meant but it didnt read that way, just clarifying.
-
If they would simply put a -blam!-ing timer on it that would eliminate all of the misconception about three of coin
-
Too bad all my engrams are decoding in the 240 range , 260 for legendaries. Not worth playing the game until RoI comes out
-
2 RespuestasFor me it used to be around every 7 3oC Id get an exotic...since the recent update, its more like every 25 Ive read threads where exotics are decrypting below a guardian's light level but so far mine have been 334, 335 and 337 (hunter boots -bones). I do wonder if this is another nerf that bungie snuk in without disclosure..

7 RespuestasHow exactly do you use them effectively than? Do you use a single coin every 15 minutes? I thought you had to use a pack of them every 15 minutes. Plz help
-
Me too.
they don't
-
I just hating popping 10 and getting nothing, then popping 1 and getting something
-
Simple. Every 11 minutes pop one. I usually pop one before a boss every strike but sometimes I do it every other strike. Pvp I do it every other match. Poe I use it on the boss. This is how I do it and I get the best results. I average at least 1 exotic every 2 to 3 coins I use. Sometimes I get two for one.
-
3 RespuestasSo what your saying is. Using too many 3oc lowers back down the percentage of getting a exotic? Am i right?
-
2 RespuestasHere is how I understand it.. 1. Pop coin for Buff 2. Kill Ultra/Finish Crucible match 3. Did you get a drop? Y/N? No Then pop another coin and repeat steps above This is where they stack, when you do not get an Extoic Drop(no timer) Yes Awesome Luck Guardian, now go check your loot and maybe run some patrols and try it out You now have the hidden 10-15 min timer (generally accepted as 15) Do not use multiple coins at once, this does nothing I have found drops to be 1 in 10 for the most part, sometimes i get to like 7 used and I get one, others it's like 14...RNG But that is the rule I follow
-
3 RespuestasIts always a 50/50 chance if you get a exotic. Either you do, or dont. Ive went 20 strikes and matches in a row before and not get shit.

Editado por BL4CK 619: 9/13/2016 11:33:28 AMHuh i used 3 3oc in challenge of elders ended with a score of around 54,000 on one run managed to get the trespasser on the third boss that was about 12 hours ago
-
There's definitely a 10 minute cooldown. I get an exotic every 4-6 coins. I pop one then kill black garden first boss. Nothing drops? Go play a clash match or wait 10 minutes. Repeat
-
6 RespuestasGod I wish that method worked for me. Today and yesterday combined usage was 32 3OC and got 1 exotic. My RNG is horrendous. I drop legendaries and blues like crazy but exotics elude me like the plague
-
I think CoE Yeilds the best exotic engram chances. I get one every 3 bosses :P
-
A year later
-
yeah, sorry. people like me ruined it for everyone when I got like 200 exotic engrams the first weekend they released lol now there's like a 5-10m cooldown it's a cumulative chance with every consecutive use, but there's a cooldown now. 1 per strike 1 per pvp match, or every other if it's mayhem and a quick match I'd get a drop every 4 or 5 I haven't used them in months because I have everything but zen meteor and idgaf if I ever get that honestly
-
I just pop mine in the crucible

5 RespuestasEditado por DaGroove: 9/12/2016 8:32:38 PMIt's 1 exotic per 12 3oC on average. I saw a guy who posted an extensive list of his 3oC usage, how many used between exotic drops. One list where he used them one after the other, one at 15 minute interval and one at 30 minutes. One after the other were hundreds of 3oC used, 15 minutes where a couple of hundred and 30 minutes were around a hundred. I added the numbers on the lists individually and they all resulted in roughly 12 3oC / 1 exotic engram. Case closed.

Editado por The Big Doogan: 9/13/2016 3:18:09 AMBungie said during a recent interview that 3oC has no cooldown. Also, someone made an entire post showing how 3oC functions through trial and error I believe the most he ever had not drop an exotic in a row was around 18. Every time it would drop before he/she got to the 18 mark. From what the author put together, 3oC has a stacking effect but only stacks up to a certain point before topping out at around a 90% chance drop rate. Just saying.

5 RespuestasI still farm draksis when I've needed exotics. Often got back to back drops. Did so when I got trespasser, I'd say my drop rate is 1 in 4/5 kills.
-
I don't worry too much about the percentages of how many coins per exotic. Sure I get lucky every now and then and get two drops out of five coins or in the extremely rare case getting back to back drops from coins or the even rarer case of getting two drops at once from the shield brothers strike. Sure I'm in a lull now ( use upwards of almost 20 coins over the weekend only got two drops ) but it all evens out in the end. Like I always say, its all rng baby.
