The post golden age society probably interpreted their non existent lifespan and endurance as machines of war The fragment says they where an attempt of immortality, trying to stay human without the organic drawbacks. Seeing as those their frames are still made to look sexually appealing, I'm sure they accommodate a sexual device as well. If they were actually war machines they would not be built to feel pain, but they can, they can feel everything a human can to be exact, emotions, pain and pleasure(physical and emotional). I think that they werent intended as war machines, but their endurance is a great attribute to the role that needs to be filled as a protector of the city Ana bray also refers to exo reproduction as reduntand. But she never said it wasent possible, implying intercourse still occurs, but due to their mechanical nature, they can't reproduce.
