OK, so I'm pretty decent at "regular" math. But, when it comes to the math that Destiny uses in the crucible, I'm just completely lost.
So, I'm told that a full-health guardian has about 200 hit-points, give or take a few, based on build.
I know that, at optimal range, a round from a Hawksaw does 17 damage to the body and 25, I think, to the head. But, it shoots 3 rounds per burst. This would be 51 per burst to the body and 75 per burst to the head.
So, in regular math, this would mean that 4 body shots or 3 head shots would kill most full health guardians, who aren't in super or have an over-shield.
Anyway, here's my conundrum... I'm playing in Iron Banner (Imagine that! Something seems f@cked in IB? Weird, right?). OK, so I'm in a match. I'm about 8 to 10 feet away from this guy. He's directly in front of me. I start shooting him. But, I'm hitting body shots. I didn't change my aim, because I started shooting first and figured he's going to be dead in 4 shots anyway.
Well, by the time my 5th shot hit him, he was still alive, with only his shield down. Now in regular math, that means that 5 body shots from my Hawksaw would have been 255 damage points. That's well beyond what it should have taken to kill him, even if he would've had a full armor build. Yet, it didn't. But, by then, he'd charged up his fusion and hit me with it and it killed me just fine.
Now, I feel like I've got to say this, because I'm sure many will suggest we were different light levels and that caused it. And, yes we were. But, I was a 333 light level and he was a 334. That's almost negligible. Also, he didn't have an over-shield while this happened.
So, what am I missing here? Did a few of my rounds forget to carry the 1 or something, because I can't figure it out.
And this is just one example. There were several more situations that were very similar to the one I explained. They happened all night long.
I'm just wondering; can somebody please explain this Destiny math to me? Because, it sure isn't anywhere close to the same as the regular math I was taught in school.

Probably the "damage referee" kicked in due to lag... It happens a lot with high rate of fire weapons...

1 RespuestaYou could try getting gud.

1 Respuestasomehow stuffing the barrel of a shotgun down a guardians throat doesnt kill them but three shots from their last word and im done. 337 clearly yellow CRIT hit and its just his shield? -blam!- THAT. (im 335 btw)

1 RespuestaMany things give health. Certain classes and armor perks grant grenade damage or kill health boosts which might happen seconds after throwing the grenade. Orbs can grant it on helmet perks. If he's shooting with a suros reg or red death and killed the guy next to you as well he'd get health. Prob it's the game code, p2p connections, lag, and damage referee acting together in a way bungie never intended causing your negative gaming experience. I assume there is a common ground between what I think is happening and what my opponent thinks is happening and the results will balance out over time. Problem is when it works in my favor I never know because I live and I always know when it's bad.

4 RespuestasI think 1 light level difference result in something like 20% more/less damage dealt. So yea, you lost the fight probably do to that.

The all and powerful LAG!!
