Too bad Destiny doesn't put your dismantled gear into a recycling bin so you can un-delete them. I mean all our gear is stored as data on our ships. Our ships are basically flying storage computers.

Yeah but it would be hard due to the fact that weapons and armor have rolls on them. So it would have to keep track not only of all the legendary weapons but the different versions of it due to the different perks. Ships don't have perks so it it's that hard, that being said one can hope that this becomes a possibility in the future.
