Do any of you who voted yes know why the Gjallahorn was nerfed in the first place? I honestly feel like some people don't understand the point of a nerf. It's like people want every gun to be op, sweep through every piece of content because of said OP weapon and then complain about lack of content.

Before you read, know that I don't think Gjallarhorn really needs a buff as it is still a strong weapon (I knew guys who would still use it in Y2 solar burn nightfalls and easily complete it). If it gets one though, I certainly won't complain. Although that's completely fair, remember that everybody is going to have a chance of getting a Gjallarhorn because there will be a new exotic quest for it. Only the iron Gjallarhorn will be a preorder exclusive. By this logic, everybody should have one so it should not create the elitist problems we had in Y1 as long as the iron Gjallarhorn is just a cosmetic change. That doesn't mean there will not be other problems though, however the major issue was the elitist one.

  • The idea of everyone getting it isn't a problem unless they buff it's damage again. It never felt exceedingly overpowered in PvP just in PvE because of it's easy ability to deal large amounts of damage to a boss and completely clear out any surrounding mobs. The weapon it's self made killing enemies a lot easier than it should be. It would also end up being like the shotgun season in Y1 of destiny. People complained that the Felwinter's sniper was OP(for good reason obviously, that thing was a nightmare) but rather than nerfing it in Y1 they decided to through out a party crasher and Madator, literally making the problem a lot worse. They're already struggling to make people use some weapons in the game such as SGA, Dragon's Breath and probably a few more. But they aren't being used because they don't seem worth using over other exotics. Bringing an un-nerfed Gjallahorn back into the picture would only make the problem worse. I also find it weird that people don't use the Sleeper Stimulant....pretty sure it does way more damage than the gjallahorn.

  • Personally I don't think it needs a buff either. It's still a strong weapon, but it's not game breaking powerful like it was. However, I don't think it would outshine exotics like SGA and Dragon's breath like it used to. Both of these exotics were tweaked since Y1 and are extremely better and more useful than what they were, and they each have their niche. And yes Sleeper Simulant does more damage than Gjally (I think it does more damage than Y1 Gjally too) but it requires precision rather than just pointing in a direction and shooting making it less popular. But honestly, the return of Gjally was going to make the community gravitate toward it again anyways. It's the gun of this game. People are going to overuse it due to its return, and there is no stopping that. However, I believe even if there is a buff to its original state, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I don't think anybody would complain about it, although it is not needed.

  • True. People wouldn't complain about it, but i feel it would end up being a problem to bungie in someway. Also does the SGA do less damage than most other exotics because i honestly have used it on 3/4 strike bosses to test out it's damage at 335 and it feels as if i'm hardly doing any. Even with it's newer perk which makes it a lot more fun and useful the damage still feels pretty meh.

I feel like any problem that would occur would not be the biggest problem they'd have to deal with, although I can be wrong. Maybe we should get a buff SGA post going. Honestly, if it doesn't have it already, a good perk for it to have would be persistence. Maybe they can add that as a hidden perk if it doesn't have it

  • Honestly i wouldn't mind anything that adds some form of stability to the weapon. Since crowd control increases damage after a kill, it would be a lot more useful for clearing trash mobs.

Right? And if you are using it in a strike, it would help land more precision shots, meaning more damage done on a boss. Although at this point it may be too similar to Thunderlord, this perk could help it

  • Well of you're going by Bungie's official line it's because Gally created an elitist atmosphere which led to people being prevented from accessing content. Assume for a second that's the real reason then they could make it a spowerful as they wanted since it'll now be tied to a quest and not RNG dependent..

  • That was one of the reasons. But it was also stupidly powerful that actually made strike bosses a crap ton easier.

  • Oh yeah, I know that - I had 3 of them. Just saying that the official reason was the whole "the community are dicks" thing
