Having items equipped doesn't mean u will use them..
If exotic weapons were God-like you would never use anything else because the dmg curve would be horrible..

If said exotic is a special weapon, they'll still have to use their primary or heavy weapon, if it's a heavy weapon, they wont have enough ammo to use it all the time. If it's a primary, well there's really nothing wrong with using your primary all the time is there
