It was the original Hammer of Sol. A sub-orbital laser. The Deuce of Zeus. With this glorious engine of destruction upon your shoulder, all were smitten.
Not only was it's blast as mighty as Hulks Camaro, it sent forth tracking freaking cluster bombs. Elemental shields fell like tattered leaves, followed immediately by a furious barrage of atomic death. Oh the stories of horror that must be told to the frightened children of alien foes throughout the galaxies....
Tales of the lone Guardian that felled Crota, Skolas, the Archon Priest, and countless others, even those thought to be unbreakable.
Yeah, it was pretty good.
Thanks BringMeTHYBooty for the idea to do this for all gear.
Hater edit: there are actually Y2 newbs who never experienced the true Gjallarhorn, and maybe received it from a legacy engram or whatnot. This post is for them, and those who fondly remember it, and perhaps wish to share their favorite memories. If you wanna hate on Gjallarhorn, make your own post.
Love edit: thanks for the awesome replies, Guardians. Sorry if you shed tears, but take it out and use it! You'll feel a little better :')

Oh the good old days. Y1 Ghally will always live in the hearts of Veteran Guardians.
-
It sad that it was changed. I understand why , but it was a LOT OF FUN, burning down bosses with it. I play for challenge AND fun. Gally burn was fun. Wiping a bunch of times at different parts of each raid was challenge. I understand the reverse argument to not bring it back, but going into a strike and destroying a boss in 15 seconds was fun. Strikes aren't any more difficult now, we just use different weapons to take down these bosses. The fact that a sunsinger build just ripped apart the taken archon priest in 30 seconds is proof of this. Bring back the gally to year 2!
-
Gally was the god of all weapons! (Pre nerf)

Could not have flawlessed or solod Crota without it. The wait was long but so rewarding when it came. Those were fond times.

2 RespuestasSo it was, on a simple thursday, I put the Destiny disc into my console and set about into the menu screens. "A humm dee dumm, and hee dee dee" I sang waiting for my game to load. And who should I see in my Online Friends list, but two of my favorite guardians just a drumming along in the cosmodrome. Into my ship I went. With a "ho dee hay" and a "laa teee tahh" I was wisked away to that good Old Russia. There I found my friends just shooting and blasting everything in sight. "Ahoy, guardians" did I bellow. To me they turned and their light did shine brighter upon the recognition. I set about completing the enemy destruction with them, when one exclaimed "Tis time for then Nightfall methinks" An uproarious sound did I make, and the other beside me. "Let us vanquish those nightfallen foes and gain our respectable blue auras" we did chant. And off to our ships we went. A quick blast from Russia did ensue. And into orbit about the planet we flew. The Nightfall in was selected. And to the torrid winds of Venus were we directed. Off, our ships did cruise, And many a gun did we ponder to use. A note to the modifiers, a simple void burn And for all the loot did we yearn. Shots left, and grenades right, The skies of venus did we guardians light. Until, that old familiar voice did exclaim "A CELL OF THE PRISON OF ELDERS" The fiend, an Archon Priest, our light he wanted to claim. Too and Fro we fought Danger and death our lives were wrought. Slowly, downward that dastardly Archon's health did creep And to the ground the blood of my fellow guardians did seep. Many a grenade were tossed, a bubble dropped Then with a mighty wail that bubble the Archon he popped. To the east, west, and south we ran Killed we were, but for the last man. Strong he stood in the face of certain death, "I'll revive you, my friends" did he yell with a heated breath. And resurrect us he did, And the Archon's death it were so spendid. A cheer, and a delighted cry went out, To the loot screen we waited to see about, What treasures would be bestowed upon us, And here the end of my story is thus... The mighty Gjallahorn was blessed to me, and with I was ready to slay all that would stand in my way. For many hours that night, my friends and I, the darkness did we fight. But upon the morrow, that bastard, dastardly, octopus faced, Xur did come. And what did he bring but that exact gun. So short-lived was my joy. Like a child on christmas now a man, no longer a boy. For santa is not real, and if he is, he is the likes of Xur I think. A fiend and scoundrel out to ruin all who have fought for their own wares. Still the power of gjallahorn was great. And for a while did I love it so. I have missed my dragon headed launcher of death. Perhaps today, it shall come out of hiding. TL;DR
Its a poem, take the time or don't. It matters not. For Gjallahorn is lost to us. But perhaps another Viking warrior of death awaits us
