If your mother/girlfriend/wife is hitting you.... Is it Legal to hold her hands together to prevent her from hitting you?

Any kind of defense is legal, until you're in a state where you are technically overpowering the original attacker. If someone has a stick, and tries to beat you with it, and you manage to rip the stick away and get him off you, you have legally defended yourself. If you hit him once or twice with the stick to subdue him (maybe KO?), that's legal. If you get him on the ground and start relentlessly beating him with the stick, to the point where he has internal damage or broken bones, that's illegal, because the fight could have been over.

Since I grew up knowing that it was not okay to hit girls back, I wouldn't hit the girl. My friend punched a girl in the face once. We were at a concert and she was moshing real hard, he wasn't. She kept hitting my buddy so he kept telling her to knock it off. It kept on happening and he told her of she hits him again she's getting punched in the face. It was awesome.
