Somebody give me the lay down on why Atheon exists.
I thought he was made in the vault but I do t know anything anymore. I'm lost with vex lore.
I imagine he'd lose though to oryx because oryx destroyed a highly powerful vex sent to battle and gather data.

I believe from reading the lore that the purpose of the vault and atheon(derived from the Greek word atheos meaning godless) was to extend the powers of the vault to the whole of the universe in order to control time and space.

I thought that when they went to throne world they tried replicating it with the vault. Then with that powerful realm they've made powerful weapons and powers not possible to go outside of the vault.

Its a plausible idea considering the came from a different reality after crota accidentally opened a "hole" and vex came pouring through. The vault controls reality within its boundaries, so my theory based off the grimoire is that like you said its based off a throne world and that the vex were trying to replicate what oryx does the by creating a corporeal projection of himself while still retains full use of his powers. If they could replicate the hive and their throne world/sword logic ideology then atheon would be able to exist outside his version of a throne world while still being able to control time and space.
