wait wait wait... so basically , when you played on your friends account who is likely GOD AWFUL at the game (I mean, you'd have to put effort into getting a .3 k/d overall) that you played against people that were really bad (probably as bad as him) ?? But when you play on your account you get matched with 2.0 k/d players?? That's your "argument" against SBMM? Sounds like working as intended bro...

  • that's how it's supposed to work , but that doesn't mean it's a good thing . How are those .3 going to learn if they only play against noobs ? why should every player who plays decently be put into forced competitive matches ? It's basically saying "you're bad , you can't play "ranked-like" competitive" and "you're good , you can't play ANYTHING BUT "ranked-like" competitive ".

  • Idiot. That's like saying "How are PeeWee football players going to learn if they do not go up against NFL players"? Your argument is bullshit. Just admit you like to pubstomp to protect your K/D. Players of equal ability will get better playing others of like ability, just like oh every non pro sporting league under the sun.

  • yeah , that's right , if you're a shitty player who can't even shoot the ball correctly , there's no way you can learn if you play other people who can't touch the ball either . You'd learn a lot by playing against nfl players , plus it's not like top 1% players were the majority (because you know , 1% =/= 50% ), you'd probably just encounter a fraction of them and just watching how the play would teach you a lot .

  • Those .3's will either stay where they are at, or gradually get better. If they get better, they'll play stronger enemies.

  • Your argument doesn't make sense. They won't always play against noobs if they aren't true noobs themselves. If you are better than a .3 you will have a better kd in those games, thereby moving up the scale until your kd becomes stagnant.

  •
How are those .3 going to learn if they only play against noobs ?
Ever play competitive sports in school? Are you asking me to believe that nobody ever improved by playing people in their same weight-class/division? Are you telling me nobody gets better by practicing with people of their skill level? Ever play a fighting game against a friend the day it comes out when you're both bad? Are you telling me neither of you improved ever from playing eachother? You just stayed bad forever? Here's how you don't improve. Spawn - Dead - Spawn - Dead - Spawn - Dead - Spawn - Run around a bit - Dead

  • that IS actually how you improve . No wonder they'd get destroyed if they play against slightly better players because they wouldn't be used to how they play , to how to counter them . I'll just take your example : when you're playing a fighting game with your friend for the first time , one of you will start finding combos or tactics that work well against the other , and then the other one will eventually find a way to counter those tactics . If you're both always doing exactly the same thing repeatedly , then there's no progress .

That's not how that works. If it were, then nobody would have been good at fighting games, ever. You think the best street fighter players, like the original players, walked up to the arcade cabinet and knew what to do? No, they learned tactics, tried new things, and adapted to different things different opponents did, steadily increasing their knowledge base and skill cap by playing players at their level. Not above, not below, because everyone starts out the same. You might learn faster from a highly skilled opponent, but remember that they cut their teeth on equals.

Again, that's completely counter-intuitive to how nearly every training and skill building exercise is actually done. You start with people your skill level and progress over time by building on a foundation of skill sets. You will either rise/fall in comparative ability over time. I get that the super sweaty feel like they're getting the shaft, but all that is really happening is they can't pub-stomp as easily any more. If your logic was the truth, then none of us, not a single player in this game would've ever gotten better since day 1. The only argument against SBMM that makes any sense is that the top and bottom of the skill pool is a relatively small % which shrinks the potential matchmade opportunities and causes additional lag. For the "meat" of the population, it's an improvement to pure connection based matchmaking. To be honest, I don't actually care which form they choose - I just think the "nobody will get better" argument is ridiculous. *EDIT* I just re-read your posts, and this particular statement cracks me up:
why should every player who plays decently be put into forced competitive matches ?
I'm either misunderstanding your point, or we just disagree on the nature of competitive multiplayer.

  • I'm more perplexed at the fact a person with a 0.3 KD can find matches so much quicker than the better players.
