Bungie made a mistake because they made year 1 weapons super op. Then year 2 rolled around and they made everything weak and just put a light level to make year 1 irrelevant without removing those weapons. People get upset because compared to current weapons year 1 weapons are far superior. And it doesn't matter in control or rift or whatever. But crimson doubles is elimination. Every second counts. And that edge is cheating. It isn't. Officially. But that's just how it is perceived. Anything competitive should not have those weapons allowed.
