(Edit: I restarted my Hunter [again], diregard the first paragraph.)
If you're confused as to what I mean by "Patrol Veteran," look at my Hunter and check my playtime distribution. My old (deleted) Hunter had similar numbers as well.
Now, I've been playing Patrol since I picked up the game last January. For the first month, that's all I did. I didn't have PS+, so I couldn't do much.
There are three topics I want to discuss:
-Difficulty/Relevance of Patrol
-Patrol Missions
-Those god damned Taken events
________________________________________
First, let's talk about difficulty. Currently, there is only one difficulty for each planet, which is the level it unlocks at. This leaves high level players with a trivially easy gamemode. Most enemies die from one headshot. There is a level select bar, but it's empty.
We need a level 40 difficulty for each planet. (The old difficulty will still be available.) Enemies should be between as tough as they are in heroic/nightfall strikes and raid level, depending on the area. These enemies have an increased engram drop rate to compensate.
The level 40 difficulty should also have manually activated "Area Bosses" in certain key zones (The Divide, The Citadel, The Hellmouth, The Buried City, etc.), similar to the Court of Oryx. Each planet will have 3-5 area bosses. Each area has a different boss with different difficulties and mechanics. They can be soloed with Patience and Time (hah), but are more managable with friends. Defeating an area boss gurantees a legendary or exotic weapon/armor piece (NOT a Ghost/Artifact), as well as a small chance for unique (and very rare) shaders and emblems.
Killing an area boss slows down enemy spawns (maybe one or two less enemies per spawn group) to show our progress towards reclaiming these areas. After about 10 minutes, a message will pop up saying "The enemy advances." Enemy spawn rates will return to normal, and the Area Boss will be available to fight again.

Next, we'll be talking about Patrol Missions. We need a wider variety of more challenging and rewarding missions.
Here are some examples:
-Complete a public event with a gold tier rating. Loot: 5+ Motes/Strange Coins and 10 heavy ammo synthesis.
-Kill 100 (enemy race). Loot: 3 Motes/Coins or 5 heavy ammo synthesis.
-Kill 20 enemy Majors. Loot: Random Legendary Engram.
-Race to (Area Name) in under (Time Limit) and scan (object). Loot: 10 Legendary Marks.
-Gather 15 (Planetary Material). Loot: Gathered materials and 25 Weapon/Armor Parts.
Those are just some examples of what I would add. Get creative.

Finally, let's talk about why these Taken events are absolutely terrible.
Every 2-5 minutes, dark haze covers the screen and that dreaded message pops up in the corner:
"Taken forces are corrupting the area."
Never before have I seen a Patrol zone empty out so quickly.
To understand why, we must first look at what the other events did right:
Blades of Crota:
-OPTIONAL, only a small portion of a Patrol area is affected.
-Simple and fast, there is a single major enemy and a few acolytes/thralls.
-You get to kill things with a badass sword after completing the event.
Packs of Wolves:
-OPTIONAL, only a small portion of a Patrol area is affected.
-More challenging, but not overwhelming. You kill a few waves of fallen, then a sub-boss.
-You get to use badass Scorch Cannons during and after the event.
-You get a few engrams and planetary materials to reward you for your time/effort. Decent chance at a legendary.
(The chest hunt was soooo fun, I remember triple dipping for major loot gains.)
Now let's compare that to the Taken events:
-NOT optional. The enemies constantly spawn all over the map.
-Blocks most enemy spawns. Some of us are here to kill Hive for a bounty, but that's pretty damn hard when none spawn.
-Constantly repeating. What's that? You just killed a bunch of Taken? Hah, Oryx sends his regards. *Taken forces are corrupting the area*
-Ability spam. Blindness orbs are flying everywhere.
-Boss is as tough as a strike boss.
-ABSOLUTELY NO LOOT. That is what makes this so offensive. The event is far tougher than previous events, but you get absolutely nothing to show for it. No cool weapon to use, no engrams, not even a few glimmer. Nothing.
Suggestion: Either give us enough loot to make the event worth our time or remove it entirely.

You guys have put a ton of effort into making this gamemode, but it's still so dry. Very few people play Patrol for fun.
I find that disappointing, because Patrol is the only way to get the "Massive open world" you told everyone about before launch. The biggest part of the game shouldn't be stuck at a low level.
While you're at it, bump up the old raids. *Cough*
Edit Section:
[Edit 1:] So far, the majority of the comments have been supportive of these ideas. A few other ideas have been suggested, including:
-Revamped loot chests
-Reintroduction of old events
-Optional nightfall modifiers
(We need this, YESTERDAY!!!)
-Increasing max fireteam size to 6
Let's keep this thread up there. If Bungie notices us (senpai pls), we may have a chance.
Thanks for the support, guys!

holy crap, an actual idea, you might get somewhere with this
-
Good post
-
How could u play patrol for 8 days.
-
4 Respuestasjust pop a 3 of coins, I've gotten so many exotic engrams from the taken boss's on patrol
-
1 RespuestaSo Patrol missions should be at level 40 with some harder bosses, but Taken events that do are annoying? I agree with most of what you say, mate, but your reasoning is lacking at times.
-
The patrol areas and the freedom they had is what i really liked about destiny in the beginning, before i realized how the actual game structure was. I really wish that bungie made the whole pve experience less back and forth to orbit and more open world with fast travel options (amoungst other things). But yeah, i like your idea overall.
-
wow I just checked my stats on patrol so many objectives complete
-
And I though I was the only patrol veteran... I did finally got my PS Plus after buying TTK!

Editado por DevThaWrightOne: 2/3/2016 7:36:36 AMlol you really think Bungie will just hand out legendary engrams like candy ?!?! they want us to grind our ass off for it.
-
alot of good ideas, but many of them can still use some work. a big problem with making a different patrol instance is population. easy patrol areas will be empty for new players, or the new hard mode patrol can be too hard for casual patrolling. instead why not a mix of both, incorporating some things you suggested, why not make the "hard mode" instances activated? so instead of having to have an entirely separate patrol instance, the hard mode gets activated, making the instance a hard mode, so players can walk into it to participate too. another way is to have self-imposed handicaps: the "hard mode" just spawns you in with modifiers that only affect you. new modifiers like "Marked by Darkness: enemies respawn in greater numbers." or even Nightfall. of course you'll get more loot from chests and such. we dont want to separate the population, so i think more player-activated events and/or scenarios will give us the best of both worlds.

-
Likening a lot of these ideas especially zone bosses. Patrol defiantly needs to become relevant.
-
Super post, great ideas.
-
Slight correction, while patrolling you do get public events that are a much higher level than the world states.
-
Good points
-
i do agree with you on most all points, but as a patrol veteran as well ( Main Warlock has 13d17h on patrol alone), would welcome those changes. Sadly I think those will most likely be implemented into Destiny 2. Well.....Bungie does need to nerf the taken public events. They are just annoying now. On the rare chance that I don't dip on out of there the damn boss seems to get to a sliver of health and just decides he has had his fun and is getting on up out of there. If we are forced and they aren't, at least give us a timer or something.
-
I miss patrol
-
If I got rewards for patrol I would be playing that so much more.
-
Your hunter has 111111 kills! xD
-
Ability spamming sucks! You might as well blindfold yourself when fighting Baroness Grayris when she spawns with 3 Taken Captains.
-
I love all of your ideas but seriously your best point is the lack of the "big open world" feel because patrol is irrelevant...it's mostly just, select level, loading screen, play in small segment of map. I'll patrol just for the heck of it even if it is pointless because I like to feel that big open world feel and actually feel like I'm trying to keep the aliens off of earth lol
-
Might get noticed more if you put this in feedback.
great ideas btw
-
I've got 14 days on patrol gg
-
This is great patrol is irrelevant lol and the taken events suck
