• Here's an example of low level employees thinking they deserve a higher wage. I completely did this on purpose to prove a point to my friend. We were in a sporting goods store, had to buy a can of tennis balls, it was $2.08. I handed her a $5. She put it in the computer then I said, I have a quarter. She said, I can't do that, I said I'll do it for you, give me $3.17. She had to think about it for a few seconds and still said, "but it was 8 cents..." Got the right change after telling her again that I'm right. As we're leaving I said, "that's why these idiots don't deserve $15 an hour. I got 104% in college math and she can't even do -blam!-ing simple subtraction."

      • See, that's good you've realized that. It's a step in the right direction. If you're a bit more curious on this thing, I recommend the School of Life on Youtube to clarify anything you thought was bad about lower-income earners.

      • As sad as this story is, this doesn't represent the overall working force in that area. Should we let one lady allow hundreds of lazy people to leech on free cash? I'm sure the stars will align for her, but you can't let one single story judge an entire work force.

        • Right now, I'm working retail earning 9.60 an hour. Now I'm not gonna say "Hey ya'll, let go make them give us 15 an hour!" because frankly, that's ridiculous for a job that is entry level and that is, for the most part, for high school and college students. If you aren't making the money you need, you have to make a change for yourself. I'm doing that right now by going to culinary school. I understand, however, that some people can't afford the schooling, so they're stuck in a dead end retail or fast food job and, as some people have said, these people have families to provide for, which is why a living wage should be provided for these people, enough so that they can feed their families.

            • You're right $15 is a retarded request for minimum wage but not because the work is easy just because it's unskilled and honestly not really needed so as wages rise people will be replaced by kiosks like in Europe.

              • At least you got to see the other side of the equation. That there is such thing as working poor. It's tough and it's not easy for everyone to go back to school and get the proverbial good job. Sometimes life gets in the way & or bad choices. Mad props for the edit on your post.

Edit: your empathy speaks highly of you. I typed all of this before your experience, but I'll leave it for record purposes. __________________________ I keep coming back to this thread because I still can't figure out what your problem is. I pay all of my "burger flippers" more than $15/hr- including my part time pantry cooks who typically chop vegetables and make salads. When I pay my employees wages that they can live off of, they can afford to stick around. Longevity and continued education, communication, and training results in competent employees. I expect a lot from my employees because I pay them well. There are heavy consequences for poor performance. If I pay my pantry cooks (and any of the rest of them) minimum wage, turnover trends higher. Competence plummets. Your vegetables probably won't get washed or will look like hell, because between the learning curve and the attitude with which people approach jobs that they don't take seriously/don't intend to stay in, your spinach will end up gritty every bloody time. (And if my executive chef and sous chefs are running around like idiots trying to babysit a bunch of people who don't give a -blam!-, that sandy spinach will likely make it to your table without being caught.) Now, studies have been done that say pay alone isn't necessarily directly related to performance. But managers creating high expectation environments and rewarding positive outcomes with opportunities for growth and fair pay? That has worked for me every time. Anyway, this is a stupid, cyclical argument. I obviously don't run a McDonald's. My point is simply that you get what you pay for. Fast food is cheap crap, the employees are disengaged and don't care because they can't afford to live, the managers are disengaged because their employees suck and the food sucks and their hands are tied. It's never going to change, as it is. But again, I simply don't see why you care.

                  • Technically i am a republican thanks to some bet i made, however i think a raise of the minimum wage to 8-9 dollars would benefit the economy. Think of it this way; at least these people got a job and contribute rather than stay home and go on welfare. If it is more worth it to give up and go on welfare than work then we are doing something wrong. Plus wage stagnation is a thing. The whole trickle down economics thing only works if the rich aren't tight fisted when it comes to paying wages and taxes.

                        • Amen Srsly I get so annoyed when I go through the drive thru in a rush and can't check my order and realize when I get where I'm going they screwed up. I order a plain burger and they slop a ton of shit on it. Ew. I'm going to your "fast food" restaurant so I can get my food fast. The least you can do is get it right.

                          • Flipping burgers shouldn't earn 15 dollars an hour that's ridiculous. If anything more skilled work should, or more prestigious restaurants
