Title says it all; CoD has it and it really breaks metas easily.
WARNING: This post is somewhat long.
SKIP to TL;DR at the bottom of the post.
Now, before people comment: "shut up CoD fanboy," I also play csgo, LoL, sc2 as well as watching their competitive scenes. No way am I going to compare these games, but only to suggest what some of them have: draft mode.
These draft modes include: protecting/picking maps, sides, weapons, classes, etc as well as banning them. If ToO (Trials of Osiris) implemented a draft mode, people can actually stop whining and complaining about stupid op's.
My idea for draft mode would be:
- 3 total bans each on Exotic and Legendary gear (weapons and armor)
- first THREE players to ban an exotic gear alternating by team (first pick is random)
followed by,
- last THREE players to ban a legendary gear alternating by team (first pick is team who got second pick in exotic ban phase)
followed by,
- each player drafting a subclass of their choice (no two same subclasses in the same team and first pick will be the team with first pick from exotic ban phase)
Ex)
Team A vs Team B
Player A1 = Titan
Player A2 = Titan
Player A3 = Hunter
Player B1 = Warlock
Player B2 = Warlock
Player B3 = Warlock
Player A1 bans The Last Word
Player B1 bans Crest of Alpha Lupi (Titan)
Player A2 bans Red Death
Player B2 bans Hung Jury SR10
Player A3 bans 1000 Yard Stare
Player B3 bans Conspiracy Theory-D
Player A1 picks Sunbreaker
Player B1 picks Stormcaller
Player A2 picks Defender
Player B2 picks Sunsinger
Player A3 picks Bladedancer
Player B3 picks Voidwalker
"But this is gonna take forever!" Of course it will, but I bet it's damn worth the time to eliminate powerful weapons and to "loosen" up weapon/armor variety. I honestly think it's worth my time to go through a phase to eliminate "non-competitive" aspects in the game. The whole pre-game process should take less than a minute anyways:
- 10 seconds per player to ban
- 10 seconds per player to draft a subclass
- 30 seconds to switch and change their weapons and armor
Also, this implementation definitely requires guardians who have multiple gear sets for all weapon/gear slots. This sheer fact alone proves that each team:
1. has experienced players
2. knows multiple weapon/armor combinations
3. has some form of communication
PROs of Ban/Draft system:
- eliminates weapons a team isn't good against or just in general is just too good
- promotes gear variety
- promotes heavy communication
- promotes overall competitiveness between all players and teams
CONs:
- can't eliminate all op's
- does not favor casual gamers
- does not favor gamers without friends or team mates
- does not favor inexperienced players
When commenting, please be civil with me and other commenters. Also, leave open suggestions that may or may not be seen by a Bungie staff member. It's time to bring Destiny's pvp to a whole new world!
TL;DR - implement banning phase of 6 total gear (3 exotics and 3 legendaries) in an alternating fashion and drafting subclasses (so no team can have two of the same subclasses, 3 sunbreakers, 3 sunsingers, etc)
Edit #1:
- there are NO bans on subclass, just a draft mode, meaning you HAVE to pick a subclass to use the ENTIRE game; no switching to a different subclass mid-game.
- of course, you couldn't queue up into ToO if you don't have more than enough gear which reaches reqs. This only shows how experienced you are which is the focus of ToO, experienced competitors.
- can you guys be civil, sheeeeesssshh
Edit #2:
- thank you so much everyone for those who kept their comments "clean."
- also, thank you everyone for your opinions, whether you disagreed or not
- people commented about how players wouldn't have extra gear: so, even BEFORE queueing in, there would be requirements
- however the requirements are hard to pinpoint because there are so mant variables
- also, keep in mind, this is merely just a suggestion and don't expect too much out of it
