Since the new arrivals to the store, the usual two groups have emerged.
Group A: the whiners that look for anything to call Bungie out on and don't understand what pay to win is
Group B: the level headed group that understands what pay to win actually is and understands how little of an impact this actually has.
Pay to win is not getting to level 25 faster than me because you paid 30 dollars to do so. Level 25 doesn't have any advantage and I will reach that level in ten hours of gameplay. There is nothing about it that lets you "win" over me especially for the current player base.
Examples of what pay to win really is:
- buying an exclusive subclass
- buying an exclusive exotic weapon or armor
- buying a boost that significantly (like way greater than 3of coins) increases exotic drop rate and is usable all the time
- buying something that would be required to play content such as the raid
- buying things that would give you a significant advantage over every other player in the crucible
Now that you have real examples of what pay to win is, maybe you can make a better decision next time before coming and bitching on he forums about things you claim to be, but are not, pay to win.
Edit: Good fucking God I did not expect this to catch this much attention. I hope you all realize I won't be reading these comments lol. But thanks for giving me my first trending post! I will add some follow up points below.
1.) it is a slippery slope, I agree with that much, but it is in no way pay to win, no matter which tiniest little scenario you come up with in which it shows a glimpse of that nature, this has no effect on "winning" considering we were all given the spark of light for free when we bought ttk
2.) people are saying I'm the kind of person that would defend them even if they sold 320 gear. No..no I would not be. Selling end game gear, although it is something earn-able, is not something I would be okay with. What this current boost does is get you caught up quickly if you really want to blow 30 dollars, not allow you to spend money on something to get endgame gear while others have to grind for it. Not okay with that in the slightest.
3.) if Bungie ever sells anything available only through purchase with real world money that gives a significant advantage, like if they had sold the touch of malice or a thorn 2.0, that was not obtainable in game, I would be standing right alongside the rest of you rioting and protesting. Or if they sold any exotic gear for that matter.
4.) to recap, pay to win is not this. Pay to win is being able to buy something significantly advantageous that is completely unobtainable in game. But I would still not be okay with them selling anything of real importance in game. But xp boosters? The least of my worries.
Edit: I notice a number of you mentioning the "cosmetic only" promise. Technically, they still haven't broken it because eververse is what they were referring to. These items are sold through the console store :p (I'm just being a troll lol, but I do get what you're saying)

1 RespuestaPerfect pay to win.....just about every app on your phone. Lmao. I can't play any games with a pop asking me to buy coins. Stupid.

1 RespuestaEditado por EvilHenchman: 12/17/2015 2:49:53 PMHow about group c? Those who felt it odd that things were beginning to be sold. Irrelevant items that provided no in game benefit, aside from cosmetic. Then became suspicious of the festival purchases that used real world money. Again only cosmetic, but began to feel like bungie and activision feeling out the response. Then came SRL record book. Finding it unnerving that each new thing presented is becoming more and more expensive.... Now we are at a new crossroads. A very large "in game" purchase to boost your level. Albeit to a level that players already active have surpassed. It's not pay to win- yet. But it smacks of test runs to see how the consumers react. If someone wishes to pay for items that's their choice how to spend their money. I'm just saying- this wasn't even on the radar a year ago. Things are changing and the real question is: will they hold true to their mantra of not following the "pay to win" philosophy? I'm just wary is all.

1 RespuestaIt's pay for convenience. Not pay to win. The second they start selling max level gear or exclusive guns/subclasses as you said THEN its pay to win. I wouldn't mind seeing them sell some cool looking low level gear we could infuse to max level so maybe we could get some variety again. But if they sell a instant 320-350 set of gear -blam!- that im out. I dont care if they even sell extra vault space. It's still not pay to win. People need to learn what pay to win really is and what pay for convenience is/

Thank you for this, not sure if the people here remember or realize that WoW did things similar to this to allow new players to catch up. I don't mind if a new player wants to skip all the year one stuff that is now obsolete, letting them get to level 25 makes it so they can jump right into TTK story line and they can get to the endgame content that muck quicker. In the end it does not hurt me that someone wants to spend 40$ to start out at 25, if they do that means I will be able to play with them that much quicker.

5 RespuestasPay 2 win? Warframe? Clash of Clans? Boom

You are going to be a lev 25 with no class perks unlocked for any class that would suck.
-
It does not matter. Micro transactions do not fucking belong in triple A video games. Simple as that.
-
These sparks are not pay to win, they are pay to be a mindless money-wasting idiot. Level 25 is 4-6 hours of story missions and the subclass will level itself during this time. If you don't have 4 hours to spend levelling a new character then you certainly don't have the time to utilise a new character in any way that matters.

In group A we have the cock eyed, window licking, big foreheaded, pale white, needle dicked bug -blam!-ers with poor grammar and no jobs. In group B we have the tall, rich, slim, good looking, intelligent, tan, literate people with extremely large penis'. Myself being in group B naturally. Come on op at least sell it as you tried to look at both sides of the coin. Geez

This whole scheme is meant to target the people buying Destiny over Christmas. It's a dirty trick, but not pay-to-win in any meaningful manner.
-
23 RespuestasHere's a short, easy answer. One for everyone. Two people buy Destiny on a Friday. One levels to 25 instantly, one doesn't. A few hours later, Trials starts. Does one of those two people have an advantage, even if it's only slight, or time based? Yes? It's pay to win then. There is nothing anyone can say that will sway people one way or the other. If they started selling guns and armour, you people would just say, "well, you can earn it in game". Once again, Bungie profits from the stupidity of it's fanbase. So, if you pay for an advantage, is it pay to win. You can't say it isn't, under the circumstances I've mentioned, or can you? I'm sure you will.
-
Agree with everything except this. Almost all pay to win games have items purchasable or grind able in game. Purchasing just makes things 20x faster and give an advantage. Rarely are items exclusive.
-
It is what it is. It may change and it may not Who honestly cares what people spend their money on. I know I could care less. At the end of the day its a video game. If you do not like the direction they are going in then leave. Stop playing. It shows the level of maturity in this community when you scroll down and see so many negative words. All the trolls thinking it is ok to insult people who will never know who you are. Real cool guys. Judging others is a giant waste of time.

Finally someone gets it, the amount of retarded kids on this forum makes me cringe.

4 RespuestasIf anyone is dumb enough to pay 30 bucks for level 25 I doubt they have the mental capacity to beat anyone in crucible or do the raid mechanics

Editado por Flailing_Weasel: 12/16/2015 9:19:48 PMI'll admit that I did overreact about this the other day. I do like calling it pay to win, because that does make it sound bad. But in the greater scheme, it really doesn't qualify. I do think the argument can be made, but mostly if it was something available at launch. Either way, it's trivial and pointless and not really that bothersome. What is troubling is that it's not cosmetic, and that is what people should be honing in on. It's kind of shitty and deceptive that they said they would only sell cosmetics through the Eververse and then offer stuff like this on PsPlus/XBLive. That being said, the edits make me sad that people can read what you originally wrote and jump to you defending Bungie about true P2W.
-
I agree that its an over reaction to this, but it is coming. Bungie has nothing to loose on this game now, so they can experiment and see if the dark side stuff actually works. Gally 2.0 for just 2500 silver is right around the corner
-
Agreed. Lots of overreaction.

1 RespuestaI skimmed this topic because I hate having to read walls of text after completing a 30 page paper for my computer mapping class. Here's what I think: Paying to reach level 25 and to get all your subclasses maxed out is not pay to win. Making a 340 level Ghorn that fires nukes and only making it available in Eververse, not that's pay to win
