So halo 5 sold about half the physical copies of any other main halo entry. I'm not hating on halo 5 it's probably my second favorite halo but I just want to see other people's opinions on why it didn't sell well. There are some reasons I can think of and some I've seen as to why it sold poorly compared to other halos.
-first new halo on Xbox one
-not including digital sales
-lack of traditional release game types
-no forge at release
-poor customization options
-not enough chief in the story
-worst halo story arguably
-343i previous mistakes (halo 4 overall, mcc being broken at launch)
So why do you think halo 5 sold poorly?

1 RespuestaEditado por Pheint3d: 11/28/2015 2:12:36 AMOntop of your reasons, here's some life reasons -age of halo fans back then vs now. None of my buddies even game anymore. Life pretty much can take a detour from gaming. -competition of games back then vs now, what's more popular today that wasn't available back then. Even destiny, as bad as people say it is, tons of people love it. It's obvious games like destiny and call of duty provide competition for halo now. Not to mention...look around you. So many people jumped from xbox to ps4. Including me. I now have an xbox, but the dumbass stunts Microsoft pulled at the beginning damn near forsakened them. Money doesn't grow on trees, so some of these gamers may never get an xbox again if they're content with their ps4. The other reasons you've given are also very legit reasons, but these ones right here also add to it. Imo halo 5 is great, but keeping the population is hard. Idk what the population is, but so many people have easy requests that would make them go from playing 30 minutes, to practically hours on end. Like no social playlists and lack of custom games options for starters. We get that they wanted warzone to get the spotlight....but we also came to find out social wasn't even on the freakin menu for halo 5 till people expressed the desire to have it there. Halo 5 has a great competitive multiplayer...the most common question arises...did those pro mlg players negatively impact halo 5? In ways they've helped it tremendously, but in ways they've also messed it up. The reasoning for no social slayer is basically stating the pro team only worried about high end competitive. I mean that's cool and all...but Seriously how could you not put social? Especially considering so many new players. I mean shit we can't forget it's an fps game. Forced into a ranked mode to play slayer (tdm) can provide such a bad bad bad experience for a newbie they're never going to try again. I understand not wanting to hold the gamers hand and shit...but in halo there's no "bot mode" for training...the general rule of thumb would be to play social. Which isn't there. All in all I really like halo 5, but most of the reasons to feel dissatisfied with it are legit reasons. What is good, is that the dev listens. Requests are beginning to be at least answered, and they are interactions with the community. What is lacking now, may not remain lacking for long hopefully. So to the OP well, you've covered most bases. I just wanted to add that so many halo fans don't play at all period anymore as well. Luckily halo sales may fluctuate as months roll by and things are added and/or fixed. I don't care about the sales charts, I do care about population though. I doubt I'll ever have trouble finding a game, but the more happy gamers the better. We all win from that.

1 RespuestaI think digital sales are more than 45% of the total sales.
-
You need to include digital sales
-
2 RespuestasDigital sales. Most people I know bought it digital
-
Needs split screen. Got bored after a couple of hours playing alone.
-
1 RespuestaHow can you not include digital sales? That's how most games sell these days.

1 RespuestaEditado por Xenoes: 12/3/2015 12:26:45 AMHalo 5 made $400 million in the first week while Halo 3 only made $300 million. Regardless of the number of units sold physical and digital, it made more money. I think more profits, not # of units sold determines how well a game releases.
-
Has less physical copy sales, and yet more digital copies. It's also been out for a little over a month, so...
Logic isn't very common around here, is it?
8 Respuestashalo 5 sucks

3 RespuestasBecause it sucks

4 RespuestasGuys give 343 another chance it's kind of hard to top the previous games made by bungie.
-
It's gotta be because a lot of former halo players moved to PS4 when the current gen consoles were released. There's just way less Xbox players now so that means less Halo sales.
-
1 RespuestaBecause it's trash, just like MCC and Halo 4.
first new halo on Xbox one
LOL what kind of excuse is that? Halo used to SELL Xboxes
-
Because many people get it DIGITALLY.
-
This is the end of the line for me, the multiplayer alone is not enough to make me buy it. The story from what I understand never solves anything, the story was absolutely not as advertised, and the ending just sets up for the next game. The multiplayer just doesn't appeal to me included Warzone.

It's still an awesome game IMO
graphics are amazing
Editado por weirdboy99: 12/2/2015 11:59:44 AMFor me personaly its the campaign that put me off. Halo used to be a complete package with both a fairly lenghty campaign and complete competitive modes. Now its a 5 hour campaign with too much focus on competitive, basicly CoD in space. I will buy it at some point, but for 60$ I can get way more game lenght this year,I'll get it on sale. I think I'm not the only one that is only intrested in the singleplayer. Ofcourse Xbone is behind on sales in the EU by a good margin,so that might factor in as well.
-
Bought as a digital download, did the campaign in one sitting on normal, about 4 hours. Played on the multiplayer, however I'm not PvP orientated add this to a woefully short campaign and the game was deleted.

I really like halo 5 and play it daily but if I had to guess why is not selling like hot cakes this is why. No slept screen - some people really wanted it I guess MCC - epic failure at launch took months to play online Halo4 - 343i decided to change way to many core halo mechanics. Was fun but a step in the wrong direction PVP wise. And the biggest of all, all they new good games coming out around same time. BO3 BF FALL OUT ECT

1 RespuestaPeople don't trust 343. If they did, it would have sold better.

7 RespuestasCan anyone actually give me an example of a continuous game title who's 5th+ entry was just as good as the first couple? Games such as final fantasy do not count considering none of them are sequential, all different stories. No real franchise survives multiple installments unless it curves off. If it sticks with a constant story it ends up flickering out(in the eyes of some players anyway)
-
Halo 6 will be worse unless they show big changes
-
I blame no split screen.... and no dual wielding.... and no social playlists
Geez Halo 5 needs some work
