The Rose.. the next Thorn???

So this is a section from the gameinformer articles released about The Taken King. But this article refers to the hidden lore and stories from year 1.
One of these stories tells about The Last Word and Thorn, and how they were basically enemies.
That story said how the Thorn was made. It used to be a gun called Rose, until it was corrupted by Darkness.
The Thorn will be one of the exotics that will be held back and not redeployed for The Taken King. And it will be greatly possible that a new handcannon will be brought into the game this September.
The Rose is a unique weapon that ties with Destiny's lore. It is also a weapon that can be considered as a weapon of light, since it was the original form before its dark corruption.
If it was to be brought to The Taken King, it would be stronger than the Thorn as well, and would give a reason for Bungie to not make Thorn upgrade-able
So, will the Rose be the next exotic? Will it be the next Thorn?.
EDIT: Someone made a brilliant point here. What if we can "purify" or bring back the Thorn back to its original state, thus making it stronger?

The year 2 upgrade of thorn should transform it into the rose Or be sent on a quest to restore the thorn's lost light

1 RespuestaI don't think The Rose will ever be available to use, considering Thorn evolved from it through the Darkness. That being said, I only knew vague background information about Thorn and The Last Word prior to the Game Informer article and after reading it I think it's pretty awesome that those two weapons have lore about being rivaled against one another, which mirrors the trends of the Crucible over the last six months plus. Seems cool that the lore came to life in the Crucible in a sense.

3 RespuestasWell it's canon that The Last Word and Thorn are Ying/Yang in terms of hand cannons so you could theorize that Last Word is the Rose but until Bungie confirms it, all speculation

4 RespuestasI know a lot of people dismiss this idea because they assume since the rose became thorn you can't have the rose now. Let's go a different route, let's have a new exotic bounty for the rose that requires you to purify thorn and return it to its former self as the rose. This would mean giving up thorn and make it interesting(not super serious since you can buy another from the exotic blueprint) but rose could be a nice alternate to just a simple 2.0 version of thorn and have different perks and abilities.

Now Picture the same gun with the same bullets but is not Withered but is Beautiful and the Bullets Heal other players when Shot. Because it fills them with Love. Lol idk just thought it would be funny and cool.

It's thorn but pink with a baby blue glow, looks closer to a rose. This would be the quote "bungie ran out of ideas, but didn't want to carry our year 1 exotics to year 2"

similar look to thorn, but brighter, less jags, and rose petals . . . . first perk: final round exotic perk: Mark of the restorer gunshots explode into pedals upon precision hits, dealing damage to the targets around it. rounds bounce of walls AND targets basically, a version of firefly that doesn't require a kill to proc

Perhaps, Exotic hand cannon "Rose" "Each petal that falls, brings you closer to your demise" Exotic perk: "Beauty and the Beast" Upon hitting a critical twice, 4 shots will be rapid fired into the targets head (not from your mag but like the black hammers perk) Derp tried xD
