So I'm not sure if people realize what he said in the stream but if you re watch it and I'm wrong than please correct me. But as far as I can tell the individual attack and defense ratings of our gear don't matter anymore. All that matters is the average of them which determines our light level. Light level is attack and defense as one number. So all the people complaining about old gear being obsolete don't realize that if you have all base ttk gear equipped your attack and defense will both be 280. If you change your primary to an old legendary (say fatebringer) at 160 this only brings your attack and defense down to 266. Furthermore, we don't know how high new weapons and gear can e infused yet as far as I know but he did show weapons with 290 attack. Which means if you have all 290 gear except a fatebringer your light level (read:attack and defense) will be at 275. This is only a 5% decrease. So if you really want to use your old weapons they technically aren't obsolete at all you just can't have all of them equipped at once. Just to clarify or the people acting like this is the end of the world and all the work they put in was pointless. I know everyone probably wants to be max light level but sometimes a good weapon with good perks is more important than a couple extra points of light.
Edit: I realize they don't explicitly state this in the stream but it is implied by a few things. The first being that we no longer have a defense rating. The second is that the attack and defense values have been equalized so that weapons and armor of the same tier average to a light level of that value. The third is that the description of light states that it affects both damage output and defense.

1 RespuestaYou math is correct, but you are assuming that the new light level that affects attack and defense ratios are independent of the attack and defense values on the item itself. I have a feeling it'll work as a multiplier applied to the value of the item. Datto recently uploaded a video - I'm afraid it'll be like that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6MCYtcErYw So, if you're at light 275 and say you're fighting enemies at equal level you will be doing normal 100% damage, but if your equiped weapon is only 170 instead of 280 you may only be doing 170 damage - 100% of attack level of weapon. Only time will tell and we'll have to do a lot of testing to see if the new weapons we acquire are actually better or worth using over our existing weapons. I love the perks on my Efrideet's Spear so much that a new weapon would have to do at least twice the damage per shot to get me to stop using it. I'm rocking Surplus, Field Scout, and Clown Cartridge on it so I get a maximum of 25 rounds, 6 in the clip, and 8 in the clip about every 4th reload (and the two extra bullets don't come out of the reserve ammo - they're space magic bullets). Also, I get 15-18 rounds out of every special ammo pickup and double ammo out of every heavy ammo pickup. As you can see getting a medium impact sniper with a higher attack value with like 4 rounds in the clip and only about 15 rounds total would NOT be better than what I already have.

1 RespuestaThis is how I understood it to be also.

1 RespuestaEditado por XOMBIEkoala: 8/24/2015 6:53:12 AMThe light level in TTK has no effect on attack or defense. It there to provide an approximation of the power of your weapons and armor. This is so you can accurately judge if the gear you are using will allow you to succeed at a given activity. Using an old piece of armor won't make something to much more difficult, as damage taken looks at the total defense of your character. Using an old weapon is a completely different story, having high level weapons in the heavy and secondary slots will not increase the damage of your primary.
I know that there is a lot more going on with damage given, and damage taken. This is a simplification of all of the different factors that go into that.
7 RespuestasNot really. We currently have no idea how light affects our attack and defense scaling. No reason to believe individual weapon/armor atk/def won't matter beyond scaling down the aggregate light. They were far too vague to draw conclusions on either side.

3 RespuestasPlanet Destiny discuses this. It's still unconfirmed exactly how it works. It could work that way or it could work how it does now with the weapons damage being severely effect by light. Planet Destiny explains it much better then I can here.
