misunderstanding "only a handful of exotics can be upgraded"
I do not think they mean that only a handful of year one exotics will be upgradeable in the TTK.
How WE view upgrading is an increase in Attack value. But remember, they just showed us how they are doing a metric system like change with Attack/Defense.
Year 1 exotic: 160 damage
Year 2 exotic: 280 damage
Year 1 exotics have the upgrade bubbles, meaning they will be able to be brought up to scale with year 2, which won't have the upgrade bubbles.
I think what they meant is that only a handful of weapons will get the Taken King changes for perk layout. (IE how the new Suros Regime has the new Suros perk layout and has the new faster fire perk.)
Edit: infusion on year 1 exotics is a schroddingers cat. Light beyond nemesis was upgradable to year 2 so it would be pointless to make year 1 with infusion.

This would mean a 290 Hawkmoon could become stronger by sacrificing something of equal or more power But those Exotics would need to directly be given the option.

If that where the case then year one weapons would still be as good as year two, but we know that's not going to happen, sadly they decided to leave that info out because they love to watch the forums burn.
