Bungie's Law of Unintended Consequences

To the desk of Sandbox Designer Jon Weisnewski On a positive note, some of your changes are fair. Final round snipers should have been fixed a long time ago (better late than never), and buffing auto rifles and scout rifles will get them out of the vault, where most are currently collecting dust. That being said, this is what's going to happen if you patch Ice Breaker, Gjallarhorn, and Black Hammer as outlined in Destiny Weapon Tuning 2.0: Gjallarhorn: Lowering the damage of the Gjallarhorn will actually cause pickup groups to become more exclusive and more likely to make it a requirement for entry, not less. That's simple economics. Players aren't going to respond to the damage loss with "darn it, I guess we should just let anyone in now, because our Gallys are weaker, so suddenly those legendaries don't look so bad." They're going to respond with "damn, our Gallys are weaker, so I guess we need to make sure everyone in our fireteam has one now and not let anyone in who doesn't. Currently, confident players don't need a full roster of Gallys for endgame content, and only losers exclusively demand it. If you make it harder to play your game, people are going to be even stricter about who they invite, and if they haven't seen someone in action, they're going to base their assessment on gear. Better Solution: Slightly decrease the damage of wolfpack rounds and increase the base damage of rocket launchers to compensate. That way, players who took the time to get a Gjallarhorn will still be rewarded for their dedication, but the damage gap won't be prohibitive to those looking to join a pickup group for a raid. Ice Breaker: The few places in the game where the Ice Breaker is really useful aren't going to be impacted by your 3 second cooldown increase, other than making them more boring to play. Also, the most likely use of that three seconds will be to give players just a little extra time to contemplate the reality that, in lieu of adding new content, Bungie has decided to continue the trend of arbitrarily making them wait for something to pad their content. Better Solution: Just don't. If something isn't going to kill you in five seconds, it's not going to kill you in eight. Stop wasting people's time just for the sake of wasting it. Black Hammer: You're essentially taking something that was fun to use in a few places and breaking it. No one will use Black Hammer anymore, and the only thing you will accomplish is breaking a rare weapon that people spent a lot of time trying to get to have fun in a few places that would take only slightly longer to beat without it. Better Solution: Just don't, and stop being so creative with your nerfs. No one asked for this, it won't stretch out your content in any meaningful way, and critical hits are not that easy against all but a handful of low-level bosses. If you keep breaking fun things in your game, eventually people will stop playing it. Not looking forward to having this chat again, but I really hope you guys actually take some time to listen to the community.
