You're paying $60 for The Taken King and Digital Content.

And Angry Joe agrees! But that's apparently alright, because the Weekly Update used nice words and made you feel good. How is anyone still defending this DLC? EDIT: Because some people have difficulty understanding the problem, let me put it like this... Do you think that those 9 cosmetic items are equal content to House of Wolves or Dark Below? If not, why are they the same cost? I've asked multiple Destiny defenders this question, and they've either flaked out of the conversation, or ignored the question. EDIT 2: Before you come onto this thread and spout off a dozen times about how "You don't need to buy it!", consider this... When people buy over-priced DLC, it tells the gaming industry that it's OK to over-charge for scarce content, because people will buy it anyway. And because those increased prices will eventually reach the people who "don't buy it", it's our responsibility to call out bad practices when we see them. EDIT 3: For the people screaming that I'm obviously poor, user DragoonKai sums it up perfectly... People don't get the reason why were upset: it's not like we can't spare $40 for TTK or $20 for the items. Hell, even a kid with a limited allowance can afford that. It's about the principle; about the fact that Bungie -blam!-ed up and instead of apologizing and making things right, they tried to sell us their -blam!- up by giving us pretty words in the shape of a half assed apology. EDIT 4: What a toxic community; I'm legitimately disappointed in you people. For every person that provides an ounce of discussion value, 5 more come running out, howling and screaming that: 1.) "You're just poor" 2.) "Just don't buy it!" or (my personal favorite) 3.) Resort to personal insults to make up for a lack of coherent thought. I'd like to say people like that deserve to be shafted by this decision, and be punished for their lack of understanding, but that lack of understanding directly effects everyone who refuses to support and defend being over-charged for no content. EDIT 5: It appears that the people defending over-priced DLC have shifted the conversation to the concept that, "since *Insert game here* does it, it's okay for Destiny to do it too!" In response to this, I ask that you remember the adage that your parents told you; "If all your friends were jumping from a bridge, would you jump too?" Just because other people/groups/companies are doing something, it doesn't make it a good thing, nor does it justify it. EDIT 6: It saddens me that this new Bungie community is so quick to zealously defend a bad deal, simply because it is "more Destiny". When a company starts making comments about how you are used to "paying a premium" for basic content and "throwing your money at the screen" for trivial items, you need to call them out before that becomes a precedent. But instead of being good consumers, many people here have instead chosen to blindly follow along, despite the consequences it will have. EDIT 7: "You just want free stuff!" isn't an answer or rebuttal to this thread. I don't think the word "free" has appeared on it until this edit, so at what point did I ask for free content? All I'm asking for is a fair and reasonable pricing model for a small amount of content.

If he even plays TTK (which he won't because he has a bias against the game) he fails to provide a good review on it other than.... Ahem. • The point is, if ppl will pay $20 for cosmetic items, where does it end? What's next? $20 for two guns? $10-15 for an extra perk or move? 35 for an extra 2 missions? $25 for extra shaders, emblems. New subclass? $50. It's like this acceptance/PC wave we have going on in society. Anybody can claim or identify as something they're not. I believe Bungie is testing the ppl to see how much we are willing to shell out for certain standalone items. I will spend money to better the company in hopes they produce better and more product. The people against it just don't want to be nickel and dimed in terms of content. We work hard for our money and want to see it go to good use. Can't fault anyone for that.

          • I've probably played more Destiny than anyone on this thread and will NOT be buying TTK. I can't support Bungie anymore. All the evidence of a game that's been torn apart, bandaged together and sold piece by piece to a consumer base addicted to 'the hunt' for new gear. I'm disgusted with myself for buying into all they hype of this game. Can't wait for No Man's Sky

            • quoting Hao510Lee from below
$20 for emotes and shaders is just ridiculous. Nothing justifies that.
I agree with that statement 110%!! (Who remembers Bethesda's first foray into DLC - aka the infamous Horse Armor crap? - I do) As for the base TTK @ $40 - we'll have and see, but seeing a write-up on Planet Destiny this morning gives me a good indication that we're going to see a fairly good size of content / changes coming with TTK and it may (or may not) be worth the cost. 20+ New Reasons to be Excited for TTK As for me - I'm still on the fence with doing a pre-order, but more than likely will be getting TTK when it releases or soon afterwards.

              • I'm going to be honest...I'm going to pay to play this game as long as I get enjoyment from it. 60 dollars isn't a lot of money, but I also don't plan on buying the 20 dollar extras pack. It's not worth it. When I stop having fun, I'll stop playing. It's as simple as that. I'm sure there will come a day where I just legitimately won't want to play anymore, but that might be awhile if they continue to make it interesting for me (which so far they have). Granted I don't play every single day, I play a few times a week for a couple hours at most. Fun game. Don't regret it. Gotten way more hours out of this game than 90% of the others I have spent 60 bucks on.

              • The reason they offer the 20$ items is because there was an uproar with the veterans for not being able to get them, and because people love this game so much, some would be forced to buy the collector's edition just to have everything. So Bungie decided to offer them also as digital content for anyone wishing to have them. I know it is expensive, but if it wasn't then the new players that bought the collector's edtition would rant about it being so expensive. The digital game and this item content is 60$ where the collectors is 80$ with few artbooks and things very few actually care about. It is a 20$ difference, maybe not big enough, but it's something, at least now everyone has the option to get these items without hunting for a collector's edition.

                  • I understand what you are trying to say but take a minute and look at it this way. destiny is not an mmo, however it has the same operational costs as an mmo. they have huge servers to try to keep running have to watch for cheating 24 7. and a large staff to pay. destiny does not charge 15 dollars a month to play like a lot of games do. destiny does not offer micro transactions to get pay wall blocked gear. (there is no pay us 12.99 for a g-horn option) wow charges a monthly fee and drops add on content you need to but to stay competitive guild wars sold whole new games to tie in and a lot of unlock packs for faster skill gain war frame sells item packs wepon sets new "classes" and platinum to buy in game upgrades eso sells crowns for unique items and a optional monthly fee for free access to dlc and faster leveling. dcuo fallows almost the same payment plan as eso destiny has larger one time payments with out making us pay each month in the long run the game will be much cheeper then alot of other games destiny is a new approach to multi player gaming it needs its own approch to make money and they are seeing what works. and no there are games that I play that I would never pay prices like this knowing i would only play the content once or twice.

Do u stand in front of a supermarket and question everyone walking in why they are shopping there? No bc they would tell you to go f**k yourself. • I agree with you it is way over priced. At the same time I enjoy this game and I'll continue to pay. It's a lot for what it is but still not a lot in the grand scheme of things. Plus you could go out for drinks with friends and it come to the same amount and get nothing but a headache in the morning. At least with this you have something that will last a lot longer. That's just how I see it.

                        • The fans of the game would defend a $90 price tag on a god damn in game aesthetic. I don't understand it either, but I've stopped thinking that they actually believe what they're saying.

                          • I'm from the UK and I posted this in another thread but posting here too as it's still relevant. The UK pricing model is far more aggro towards the consumer, especially considering digital content isn't even taxed. But, it's not about who is getting shafted more. It's about the principle of accepting it as "the norm" because everyone else is doing it. People seem quick to do that in this day and age. Trolls aren't a new thing in any community. Destiny trolls are just that special kind of stupid though. Discussion isn't an option. Getting a rise in anyway possible is the name of the game. I suggest you ignore them and keep the discussion going OP.

                          • Lol, makes toxic post, complains about toxic community. Who is spending $60 on this? I'm buying it for $40 and skipping the dumb emotes and class items. I still get shader, sparrow, emblem, and Suros access. No offense, but the price tag on this isn't that big of deal. The main problem is the $40/£40 debacle. I feel for my Overseas guardian brothers and sisters.
