This comment was inspired by planet destiny's recent podcast. Some of the wording might seem out of place as I am referring to things said in the video. But i'm copying/pasting my comment on the video because I feel it's a perspective people should have. Even if they might not agree with it. Anyway feel free to let me know how you feel about my comment. This thread is an informative/debate one.
"About 32 min in just wanted to write this down while it's fresh in the mind. I'm talking about the comment about "gun balance" made when speaking about competitive potential. As it stands today the crucible is actually well balanced for the most part. The special ammo nerf made it so people can't spam and miss a lot and not get punished ammo wise. and with the recent pulse buff the weapon class is actually usable now.
The only major thing I think needs to happen concerning weapon balance at this point is making auto rifles good again. They are passable in pve but in pvp everything out damages them. Scouts don't need adjusting either. Main reason why scouts/pulse rifles are not as frequent is because they are punishing and not very user friendly. Autos were used a lot because automatic guns are easier to use. Hand cannons are flocked to because they are the skill gap weapons of destiny. They have high visual/actual recoil and the smallest clips of any weapon class. But they also get the biggest payout when you learn to use them well. I'm speaking of course of the time to kills.
If you master scouts and or pulse you merely get a range factor. autos you just consume less ammo. Aside from buffing a few exotic weapons and buffing autos i'd say for general use (pve/casual pvp) weapons are good. That being said I don't want bungie trying to balance weapons around the ultra competitive osiris mode which is what some people on the podcast sounded like they were saying. You don't balance things around the minority of content. and nerfing the guns into the ground will not improve weapon balance overall. It will only make those weapons worse which isn't helpful to the overall health of balance.
Also they need to realize that destiny isn't halo. Each MP game that has competitive potential has to have their own way of balancing the game based on how the game is designed. Halo was simplistic which is what made it easy to turn into competitive play. halo really only had to worry about map balance because the game at it's core supported both styles of play. Destiny does as well but in a different way. Call of duty's balance was kill times. They could have different weapons/perks because in the grand scheme of things everyone died very quickly. So there wasn't much influence from outside sources.
However also with cod people flocked to certain perks/guns/equipment. Not because other weapons were not usable. Just because these weapons were slightly better then normal. And that's the perspective I hope bungie will keep. There are plenty of usable weapons in destiny. but there are also weapons that are just slightly more useful then others. That doesn't mean they should be nerfed.
As far as destiny competitive goes gun balance is not the main thing nor the only thing to look at. Map balance, movement, and the tier weapon system also need to be looked at. Even if we nerfed all top tier exotic weapons it still wouldn't be enough for the competitive crowd people in this video are trying to base their opinions off. We spawn with both a close quarters option and a cross map option. Even if we didn't spawn with starting special ammo having the gun on spawn still makes a huge difference. The movement options in this game also heavily impact combat. it can help us either put major distance between enemies or always keep us in cqc.
If we ditched supers and the weapon tier system and limited our movement all for the sake of competitive play even if it was just for osiris we'd lose the essence of what destiny is. If bungie want's to start taking things farther competitive wise past osiris we need to do a few things. First only one heavy ammo crate, next we need to have a decent set of maps (4-5) that support cqc, mid, and long range evenly WITHOUT the ability to spawn snipe which is currently possible on almost every if not every vanilla map. and lastly we need more objective modes that are not just a fancy spin on getting points via kills."

1 RespuestaWill level matter in ToS just like in Iron Banner? Can we use blue lvl gear (if we like the perks) without being punished?

11 RespuestasValid points but the exotic hand cannons do need nerfs. Probably all three of them to. These are easy, very forgiving guns that have pretty much everything. They have the fastest TTk's, they have the highest head shot damage, they have the highest body shot damage, they have except-able and extremely good kill ranges, nice kill per clip size, and every single one of them has some sort of damage proc that makes them basically god compared to other guns. Day 1 of the Thorn buff and Xur selling TLW these two guns, who were almost never played, rocketed straight to the #1 and 2 weapon spots. Suros hadn't even been nerfed the second time yet and it was garbage compared to these two weapons. Its measly .9 TTK had nothing on the .5-.7 TTK's of the Thorn and TLW. If these two guns weren't drastically over bearing to the other weapon classes we'd probably see the best balance in the game since forever. However, right now TLW and Thorn are way way way way to over powered to the point where if you are play high skilled games; they is the only primary period that is competitive.

3 RespuestasHaving autos back would be good. The only other thing I would change is I would increase the downsides of the hand cannons. Mostly thorn . This week in iron banner, thorn was the most used gun, followed by TLW and vex. Thorn may not be op, but it is very overused, which is the excuse bungie used for suros. It got so bad I was at the point of changing my loadout just to beat them, because thorn was so prevalent. If you feel the need to change your playstyle just to beat a particular gun, something is not right here.

As long as cruicable is slightly more balanced before trials of osiris ill be happy.

1 Respuesta""If we ditched supers and the weapon tier system and limited our movement all for the sake of competitive play even if it was just for osiris we'd lose the essence of what destiny is."" definitely. The lag still makes this game feel like a mostly broken Beta as far as PvP goes though.

2 RespuestasGood points, but, Destiny will never be competitive due to the lag. Back in the day I used to belong to a Nth American GameBattles league clan for Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, which at the time was the best and only shooter on 360 in the early days of the consoles release. There were about 200 teams in the league in peak season. Before a match, each team and each captain would enter the hosts game world and have to agree that the environment was suitably lag free before starting. If not the host was switched. If issues did occur, a GameBattles ref would have to intervene. Destiny would almost never meet the criteria for competitive play. Even if lag free at the start, at least once per game there are instances when lag overtly impacts gameplay in a negative way. In a competitive environment, almost every game would result in an appeal to a ref.
