I was bored tonight so I looked to see if Harold Ryan's number was listed anywhere online. I found it (although google told me the number was just Bungie's switchboard, so don't go pranking it if you find it), and the site listed his job as the owner of a company called "Arete Seven." A quick google revealed this page, which says that a Kirkland based company named Arete Seven is doing business as "Bungie." (Use CTRL-F to bring up the "find" window and type "Bungie").
I looked up the word Arete and found that it is Greek for "Noble." So Bungie is the Noble Seven Company?
Posted by: bjb yo Also, I found a poem named ARETE by someone who actually lived in Sparta. A.K.A. a Spartan. His name was Tyrtaeus. It is said that Tyrtaeus was a lame schoolmaster, sent by the Athenians as likely to be of the least assistance to the Spartans. He later became a citizen of Sparta. In Greek, Arete meant excellence, virtue, and superiority. The poems Tyrtaeus wrote were used to inspire the Spartan soldiers to deeds of heroism in the field. Rise up, warriors, take your stand at one another's sides, your feet set wide and rooted like oaks in the ground. Then bide your time, biting your lip, for you were born from the blood of Heracles, unbeatable by mortal men, and the god of gods has never turned his back on you. So cast off whatever fears arise at the armored legions they'll muster before you, hedge yourself round with hollow shields, and learn to love death's ink-black shadow as much as you love the light of dawn. So that when the hour comes, the battle lines drawn, you won't hang back beyond javelin and stone but, marshaled into ranks, advance as one to engage your enemy hand to hand. Then hefting your bronze-tipped spears and raking the air with your broadswords, set foot to foot, battle dress to weaponry, horsehair crest to polished mail, and --- helmet to helmet, eye to eye --- mangle their gear, hack off limbs, lay open the organs that warm their chests, then beat them down until the plain runs red with enemy blood and you still stand, breathlessly gripping your wet sword's hilt. Here's the url: http://readytogoebooks.com/classics/Tyrtaeus-arete.htm P.S. This poem was made in 7th century B.C.
Excellent find! And, lol at 7th century. Everything about that screams out Bungie.

I found that the word "Arete" was also used to say that something "had the notion of the fulfillment of purpose or function; the act of living up to one's full potential". Bungie's "Purpose" is to gain world domination. P.S. I do not want to be slingshotted into the sun.

Jeesh this topic is in the Top Forum Topics now! And still no official response. Plus we're running into dead ends in this investigation. I thing Bungie (Arete Seven?) loves toying with our minds. Instead of answering this they're letting us chase something that is either so secret it can't be brought up or is more likely absolutely nothing.

Wow i never knew that, and now i know. I must escape with the truth *runs like hell away from ninja's* O.o [Edited on 04.06.2009 10:14 AM PDT]

The truth has been reveled. And i posted on the original topic. It seems, for whatever reason, Bungie just doesn't want to answer this thread. Note to the flaming ninjas: I have a gun. Stay away from me.

"I was just bored, so I decided to google Harold's phone number...' okay, psycho!

just found a business listing for "Arete Studios Inc." with two addresses using a research engine I use at work - addrs were in Golden Valley, Minnesota and Berwyn, Illinois - check out the company description: Areté Studios seeks to establish a reputation as the video game industry leader in innovative design and depth of content. At Areté Studios we believe that revolutionary games come from innovative, fun gameplay, and we strive to cultivate the kind of original ideas, based on a solid understanding of what players enjoy, that lead to amazing games. Areté Studios incorporated in March of 2004 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is currently in the design and prototype-development phase of their first game. good be nothing - could be something - keep searching for the tru7h -also worth noting that Bungie's headquarters is listed in Chicago, although I always thought they were closer to Seattle [Edited on 03.27.2009 12:45 PM PDT]

Interesting.
-
Hate to burst some bubbles but check this...http://www.bungie.net/Inside/default.aspx Now think about what you just found. How conincidental is it you just found it, and that is the next to last step in bungies plan... O.o
-
I was watching a video on Bungie's origins once, and they Already had a company when that dirty joke popped up.
-
this is super far fetched but bungie cords always stretch out but always returns to its original size so perhaps its bungie arete 7 the return of the noble 7 thats an epic name even if it's not true [Edited on 03.22.2009 5:46 PM PDT]

I think he should get Recon.
-
it all makes sense now
-
does the thread maker get recon for this? or do the Flaming ninja's steal his computer?

Another weird thing is Jason and Alex's game Minotaur: The Labyrinths of Crete. I also noticed this. The Minotaur would devour 7 men and 7 women every year. I again found something else that is very interesting. I think I may have discovered their seventh step to world domination. Alex Seropian and Jason Jones graduated from the University of Chicago, and the University has now launched the Arete Initiative as seen here. Coincidence? "Funding for Arete projects has come from a variety of public agencies and private foundations." Last time I checked, Bungie was a private foundation. If you read it, the initiative is about bringing the brightest minds together to tackle humanity's biggest problems. With that sort of mind power all bunched together in one place, couldn't they build a super mega slingshot? Or maybe even the Halos themselves. This, my friends, is the very beginning of a new era ruled by Bungie; or should I say Arete Seven. Take cover from the fiery ninjas. [Edited on 03.22.2009 2:00 AM PDT]

haha nice mystery solving man, thats an interesting fact to know

No wonder they like the number 7!
-
Nice Find. But What Means Arete ?
-
Bungie most likely did not intend to reveal their true name until the goal of world domination was complete and their empire established.
-
Wow! This is crazy, nice find. The Noble Seven ftw.
