Both are probably true- Xur can be RNG, and bungie can manipulate it by weighing the items differently.

  • It actually isn't RNG, it's something called PRIVATE LOOT STREAM. Google dat ish. Bungie talks about it in some rare streams found throughout the interwebz.. Peeps say it makes the game more fair and provides players with the loot they want, not need, through algorithms based on weapon usage in game. Say you dig handcannons and only play that, the PLS system might reward you with solely auto rifles to drive you to fit a playing profile the devs want... Or the opposite, it might reward you with the gun type you use the most, or the most ammo for... This explains why people get multiple exotics in a row, (I got 4 dragons breath in a week), because they constantly favor the same weapons/playstyles. TRUE UNWEIGHTED RNG can't give out multiple times the exact same result. That would mean out of 1000 possible results, you ended up with the same number multiple rolls.. Statistically impossible. I did like, calculus or smthg a while ago so my science is sound yall.

  • That would really piss me off if that's how the reward system works: Oh, handcannons are your play style? Have an auto or pulse rifle! You use shotguns? Have a fusion! It all comes back to bungie nerfing all the other weapons and boosting pulse rifles so people use those more. I agree that pulse rifles needed a buff, but the reasons were stupid.

Yeah, same difference. Whether it's a PLS system, or an RNG subroutine seeded with player specific information (i.e. Day of the week, Time of day, IP address, etc.), the end result is the same- your account will be inclined to receive some exotics more than others, even though it's "random". This would explain why people get multiples of some exotics, while never seeing others. Edited for typos

Nicely summed up. Still sucks that they use this method.. Knowing Bungie, the PLS likely increases the grind by decreasing chances of obtaining new exotics, or making them far and few in between once you get a certain amount of them. I used to get more exotics in the early 20's with one char than I do now with two chars @32 and one 31... Makes absolutely no sense, just like everything else in this game haha
