Ok... I respect this opinion. I see where you’re coming from. I’d like to offer a different opinion, just to even things out... 7 raids - technically yes, D2 has more raids, but a few of them are Lairs and by no means does the quantity equal quality. While there are some good raids in D2, D1 raids on average had a much better combination of gunplay and mechanics. D2 raids are waaaay too mechanic heavy. multiple PvE activities - Ok. D1 also had these. Clarify? an experimental (some consider failure) hybrid PvP/PvE event - I won’t say anything about Gambit, I hate it so much. You can have this one. constant feedback - from the community managers? From the game director who inherited a game the direction of which he didn’t particularly agree with and decided it needed to be more grind heavy? I guess we get more feedback but does it really mean anything? weapon balancing - it’s about on par with the same mess that we had in D1. If you’re talking about PvP, it still suffers from the core issue of still being tied to PvE. events - for better or worse D2 has more events. That doesn’t mean they’re all winners, but yes. We have events. locales - D1 also had “locales”. Not sure what this means. Is it filler? better story - Oh boy, here we go: Nope. Biiiig nope. D1 had the promise of an amazing universe that we were reborn into, with the chance to fight the ultimate evil and with expansions that added epic narrative and gameplay. D2... ugh. Cheesy, cliched writing, TERRIBLE expansions up until Forsaken which was STILL a narrative mess which ultimately DIDN’T matter but everyone gave it a pass because the previous expansions were garbage and it added more “stuff”. D2 doesn’t know where it is because the narrative team doesn’t know where it’s going. D1 may have had some narrative stumbles but D2’s story fell off a goddamn cliff. And just to sum up... No one wants the devs heads on a stick for being “human”. No one wants them to kill them selves over this game. What they DO want is a team that uses the resources they have to develop content that is engaging and fresh and new, and a game that isn’t just the same repetitive grinding regurgitated over and over every year. And while we’re at it, calling people names and putting them into a group you can snarkily dismiss doesn’t exactly help your case. It just shows you aren’t willing to accept that there are more opinions than yours. But hey, if the mindless grind of D2 is your thing, then great. I’m happy for you. The rest of us simply might want a little more than this.

  • I can't say D1 was better. The story is better in d2. They explain more things about what is what. D1 we got more questions than answers. Weapons? About the same. Wish we had more returning exotics. I'd love to see how D1 exotics work with the new system. Armor 2.0 is a welcomed change from what we had. We need more enemy specific perks... Right now we only have raid specific perks like D1 D2 is more than double the size of D1. Not to say quantity > quality but I see D2 is evolving as it goes. The lionshare of the player base agrees with the D2 formula. The bottom 10 and top 10 feel misrepresented because reasons. I'm hoping they have a successful fiscal year.. cause then it's time to pay up. We better get another comet like expansion.... Or D3... Without the nonsense. It's hard to swing one way or the other. Get into the minds of the team for a bit. Imagine everytime they have an idea they need to consider what most want? Not the top thread with 20 people barking... The people who log in and get their things done without fail.

Fair points. I know Bungie is reading the data and making decisions based on the majority, but damn... that’s a hard fact to swallow that the majority of players are super cool grinding the same bounties and activity types over and over for years. I mean... damn. And even if that were true you’d think at Bungie would want to try new activities instead of phoning in the usual horde mode and filling in the rest with bounties. I assumed they enjoyed what they do and actually wanted to try new things. Story-wise we’ll have to agree to disagree. The story might be more “clear”, but in my opinion it’s because they dumbed it down and started using some WELL tread formulas, and the script is just BAD. I’m trying hard to see if my rose colored glasses are glued to my face but I’d like to think I know the difference. D1’s story promised something huge, and delivered some great beats. D2’s basically continued the SAME world-ending threat plot lines, with worse writing. Worst of all, the storylines have zero stakes. I mean ZERO. What has happened that actually matters? The Tower is essentially rebuilt, the speaker and Cayde’s death... happened, we neatly tied up every enemy we’ve faced since (remember the Scorn? Me neither) and the Darkness is still just a big old tease. At BEST I suppose you could consider D1 and D2’s stories on par but that’s still being generous to D2. I guess my biggest issue with D2 over D1 is it didn’t really do anything to raise the stakes or improve on the model. Yes, they adjusted some balance and added more complicated armor perks but it seems like they’re more interested focusing on minutiae rather than the big picture. Maybe that’s all they can do, maybe that’s just the way it is, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to fall over myself complimenting them on how good the game is because they’ve essentially just maintained the status quo.

Okay, putting it that way where have they raised the stakes? Nowhere since vanilla and it's stale. God.. red war.... We should have gotten our light back at the end.. not five minutes later because it's a crutch. They wanted to define the light... Cool that they made it some sort of philosophical ideology (shadowkeep lore entries) but do we care about that explanation? This is next section is the part I hate, our subjectivity I'd rather it be simpler. Traveler grants us space hax. Darkness is bad space hax. Blamo... Done. We earn the damn thing back because we devoted ourselves to the boon. Nothing would make me happier than to see our character claw from the edge of death to prove we are stronger without the light and we whoop ass. The light is just a added benefit. Here's how I breakdown the rest CoO? A discount Dr. Strange can't save the future because he forgot to ask ikora for help Warmind? Xol and Nokris could have been built up a bit better. Oryx had another son?! That's what a worm God looks like?! Needed more context. Forsaken? A lawless space frontier megaman style. Pretty entertaining... A wish dragon?! Coolio Shadowkeep? Back on the moon baby. Vex touched base. That pyramid ship was in the moon this whole time. that was a huge mindf@#k. The darkness talks to us. We need more of this The new seasons just accent the narrative but nothing major happens until the very end of D2 cliff hanging into D3. I expect this. The gameplay is fine and the weapons are getting quirkier. I focus more on lore because that's what's lacking most. I don't mind reading but I know they can make this experience more cinematic too.

  • Opinion mixed with debatable facts, but that’s the fun of posting on the forums, isn’t it? I welcome good natured discussion, and don’t blindly adhere to any conviction if it can be challenged by well-reasoned arguments.
