I've seen the same type of nonsense out of full grown adults (30-60) on my Facebook list as well. During the primaries and election the past 4 1/2 years I've seen people who were fun, friendly, and cordial with each other turn into head spinning, pea soup spewing, other worldly banner bearers for their 'party'. However, the ones that were the most unhinged, vile, irrational, absolutely without any filters, would run headlong- head first into a brick wall if their party said to do so, were the democratic followers. I saw them attack on every occasion, even if it a topic had no political affiliation. The majority of republican followers who did try to respond on topics tried to be reasonable. There were only a few that were as blatantly beligerant as the attackers, but not nearly the same percentages. Many friendships fractured or were ended. I wonder, if there was no party for anyone to listen to if these people would make up their own minds on issues, rather than picking up the battle axe of whatever their party leaders promote.

In my case, it seems to be the opposite: Hell, even someone I considered a friend back in high school told me to go back to my own country because I didn't agree with his politics. Even when I indicated to him that we were born in the same city, he still kept up his rabid tirade simply because I'm a brown person with a non-white name like John Smith: His words, though summarized and meant to go straight to the main idea. I ended my friendship with him. I have a lot of problems to deal with in my life like bills, debts to pay off, keeping a roof over my head and food in my belly. Trump supporters in this area launching racist remarks at me (such as the comment above, ching chong, that my people are the reason for why America is China's -blam!- (I'm not even Chinese), etc.) are easily one of my additional problems now, and I don't need additional cancer/additional cancerous people in my life. I definitely agree that if there were a lack of parties, or even more parties being taken seriously in America, things wouldn't be so much of a burning circus in this country. For the second part, I can't really see a majority of people in this country making up their own minds or thinking for themselves, especially now with how polarized American politics has become. I do wish that critical thinking was a subject that would be its own class in high school, because nowadays, it seems like many people in this country seem to lack that basic skill.
