Yeah the people that pay the money are in the minority of actual players. If Bungie sold it that would lead to outrage of actual endorsed pay to win. Majority of recovs are from legitimate sites so scamming doesn’t occur for most. Not just the people who paid/do the service will be mad, the general population would be too. It would be a worse shitstorm. Despite going to Bungie for money people would be outraged. It wouldn’t matter. Keeping the quest line would be even a bigger slap in the face to everyone else. If the community still can’t get over comp and recovs in a game they won’t get over selling it in EV.
1) At this point it’s probably 50/50 paid to earned, or more paid than earned legit. There is a reason LH makes up 20%+ of energy weapon usage and NF makes up 2%. There are more people doing LH recoveries than earning their LH and pushing on for NF. You don’t know how many there are, but I know I have seen a guy who streams paid account recoveries for LH on twitch. He is streaming 4+ days a week, each week since Forsaken launched and he never runs out of customers for paid LH recoveries. That’s just one recov service. 2) No site running recovs is legit, you’re paying to cheat in the game. 3) There is no way to know how many sites actually use network exploits be ones that don’t, but we do know that people use exploits and recovs do it more for fast wins and fast money with the idiot paying’s account the only one at risk of being banned. 4) I don’t think it would be a “shit storm”. Bungie puts predatory MTX and reinforces it with a loot box system already and no one complains about that. They removed the only way players had to limit RNG on the biggest pool of loot in the new season (the prismatic matrix) and there wasn’t an outcry. The people who would care are either idiots who can be taught what P2W actually means, or RECOVs who spent hundreds of dollars risking their account to buy theirs and are jealous players can get it for $20 legit. 5) Keeping the quest line active is WHY it’s NOT P2W. Players can earn the item in game they don’t have to pay. With the recov economy removed from the game players would get a more fair chance at earning the weapon. It would be easier and more fun to do on your own. 6) I’m not saying that ignorant people wouldn’t be upset, but Bungie can post a statement explaining it and move on. Just like they do with other decisions they make that are unpopular. It’s the right thing to do for the health of the game.
1) There is nothing to confirm if it’s 50/50 or not. Luna as weapon is very easy to obtain normally and without a recovery, or carry help. It being a fairly accessible weapon contributes to the 20% it represents. Especially since it’s been available for 8 whole months now. 2) When I mean legitimate sites I mean there is no account taking or denial of service. You pay for the service and you receive it. That simple. 3) From the sites that actually matter (Big sites with the most traffic and reputable players/streamers) I have seen how all boosters actually play legit. If not they are fired since it compromises the credibility of the site, which is bad for business. I am sure lower sketchier sites may have this problem. 4) This would have more outrage then random loot boxes with stupid cosmetics. This is a weapon, a pretty good one at that. That’s what would make people mad. The fact that they are selling a rewarding weapon instead of it being in a playlist. 5) Keeping it active would be even more of a slap in the face since people can just casually buy it. Leaving the quest useless unless you want to put in more time. The recov economy is big and expansive. There are recovs for almost every activity in the game. They would have to rework it all, which they won’t do. 6) Yes they could try to do that but still people complain. Still people would complain even if they bought it themselves. That decision would be very unpopular, to the point they can find themselves in more heat.
1) I said probably. There is no way to get the exact number. Your reply makes me think you paid for yours or do recovs so all your replies are going to be tainted by your own self interest. The weapon isn’t easy to obtain, if it was you would be looking at an even higher % of use in the crucible. 2) There isn’t anything legit about it, they don’t get bonus points for not cheating extra. Even though you can point to examples of a recov service not cheating, there are also examples of them cheating. 3) Getting paid to break TOS and play someone else’s account go get them gear they didn’t earn isn’t legit in any way. 4) most people don’t care about that when it comes down to it, just look at how many players pay for their LH, they just pay parasites instead of Bungie where the money would go back into the game instead of a scumbags pocket. 5) They wouldn’t need to change anything. Players who would buy the gun anyway can do so cheaper, safe, and instant. Players who want to earn the gun through the quest still can, and they will be doing it in a playlist that has the toxic elements reduced. 6) So What? They piss off the playerbase almost everyday. In a week they move on to be pissed about something else. This change would be supported by reasonable, smart people. Some would freak out, but they would be wrong. They lost so much of their playerbase thanks to 3 seasons of an Oppressive weapon and the scum bags cheating to get it. This might bring back/in players.
1) Compared to NF Luna’s is much more easier to obtain for lower caliber players. Accounting for 20% of special weapons is quite impressive. Personally I don’t have any self interest since I don’t do recovs anymore. 2. If the site is legit they provide an legitimate service. Once it’s completed the service is consummated. 3. Of course it’s not legit on the buyers part. The provider is just doing what they are paid to do. 4. We don’t have an actual statistic of how many people paid for it. Just off of sites alone I can calculate it although. The money generated going into Bungie’s pocket wouldn’t hurt but still not a guarantee anything would be done with it. If it goes into someone’s pocket or not it really doesn’t affect anyone that isn’t involved. 5. Like I said before that would just be a slap in the force. For all of that they should remove the quest completely. Also they would have to rework all of the pve/pvp loot. It simply won’t happen. Even boosting in QP/Comp can’t be stopped. Which is VERY popular. 6. This would kill the player base even more. People will still complain and won’t come back because they are selling a weapon that will become irrelevant in the next 6 months. Just because they piss off the player base doesn’t mean it’s fine to add on another problem.
1. See I knew you had a conflict of interest. Anyone doing recoveries is a parasite. 2. It’s always against TOS so there is no such thing as a legit Recovery Site. 3. Except it’s against TOS and unregulated so there is no way any service is legit. 4. That’s where you’re wrong, it effects all players. Bungie having more money means more money spent on the game. 5. It’s not a slap in the face. It’s an olive branch for screwing us all so badly. 6. It solves more problems than it causes. You’re just talking shit because you have a conflict of interest. It’s pathetic.

 • Personally I am not effected. It lowers the skill gap since people pay for it, which is unfortunate. Fortunately incompetent players are still clueless so even with the gun they are worthless. Would I consider it ruining comp? No.
