Hello again. I saw that you created this thread so, I am going to help shed some additional light on this. Players that want to do the Refer-a-Friend Quest need to have Destiny: The Taken King on their individual accounts and not "game-shared". Bungie does not have any control over game sharing as this is a console feature. I think it may be best that you bring your position to Microsoft.

 • Hi again :) Yes I will raise this with Microsoft today thank you. In the mean time, knowing the circumstances surrounding this could Bungie manually resolve this please?

 • In short, no they cannot. The account in question must own Destiny: The Taken King.

 • Ok what about if I purchased another (second hand) physical copy of Destiny TKK today and booted the game up using that? (as its cheaper)

 • Be very wary of used copies, they may have codes for the DLCs included, but they will more than likely be used. The disc is just the base game, but you will need the codes for the DLCs.

 • Oh man this is a nightmare! All I want is to protect my kids online and to be able to play Destiny together, and protecting your kids and playing Destiny just doesn't seem to be compatible with each other :-(

 • I totally understand your position on this, but it is compatible - there are requirements that need to be met first. Please refer back to the FAQ for additional info: https://www.bungie.net/7_Refer-a-Friend-FAQ/en/Help/Article/13962

 • I've had a read of that but it appears it isn't compatible. The parent Xbox account is the Live account with the payment details associated with it and which is used to buy games and DLCs, and the child account has restrictions associated with it (cannot buy DLC as has no permission or payment details for example to buy DLC). I struggle to believe there isn't a way to deal with situations like this :(

 • Microsoft support have replied stating that I must contact Budgie support regarding this issue :-/ Very much looks like neither company cares at all.

 • I'm not sure what else you are requiring or asking in regards to this. Both the Veteran and Referee must have Destiny: The Taken King licenses and Xbox Live Gold subscription purchased under each account. Bungie does not support game sharing/account sharing features as they are console related. The Veteran must have owned/played TTK for more than 7 days and the Referee for less than 7 days. Both console accounts need to be linked to Bungie.net and the Veteran must send the link to the Referee. The Referee must follow the instructions afterward to ensure the link is formed so both parties may get the quest.

 •
I'm not sure what else you are requiring or asking in regards to this.
Nothing now I guess, it's an acceptance that for Bungie it's too much agro to change a 0 to a 1 in a database and I guess a concern over setting a precedent. Then for Microsoft they don't have access to the said database anyway and it's easier to for them to absolve themselves from any responsibility and say nothing to do with us.
Both the Veteran and Referee must have Destiny: The Taken King licenses and Xbox Live Gold subscription. Bungie does not support game sharing/account sharing features as they are console related.
...because despite buying two Xbox One's, two copies of Destiny TTK, and two season passes, and following Microsoft best practice for parental controls caused this issue it seems. I spend good money with Microsoft and they wash their hands as this is not under their control, and Bungie who have access to said database and I buy two copies of their game and season passes will see this as not fitting the mould so wait for me to quietly disappear. As I say above, it's a realisation that neither companies care and I've wasted my money, and to top it off the excitement crushed in my son that he won't be getting these exclusive rewards and his sister agreeing to help him get them isn't able to happen. I'll guess I now have no option but to now disappear as is to be expected by these companies.
