I suppose there are good technical reasons for doing this. but it's annoying that they give me 3 opportunities to use my menu when loading into a crucible match, and immediately pull me out of the menu each time.
What makes it more frustrating is the time it takes for my inventory to load, as well as the fact that I don't see what map I'm going to play until it's almost too late to change my loadout.
Sometimes I'll see we are loading into a certain map, and I'll want to change my subclass, which requires a completely different armor build, in addition to any weapon changes I want to make.
And it's really tough to make all those changes when I'm forced out of my menu, reopen it, wait for inventory to load, make a couple changes, get forced out of the menu again, rinse, repeat.
And now that I can't swap special weapons during a match without losing all my special ammo (not to mention my initial reserve ammo count is based on my armor setup), I'm forced to make all these decisions within the few seconds I'm allowed to use my menu while loading into the match.
It's just a snowball effect of poor design choices, all adding up to a less-than-stellar PvP experience.

Maybe if they gave me 10 seconds at the start of each match to swap weapons/gear without any ammo penalties, I'd be satisfied. I just hate loading into Drifter with my sniper when I really wanted a shotgun...

Yes, the OP shouldn't have used the word "pause" when he was talking about trying to stay in the menu when loading into the next PVP match. But no matter how many times I see it, somehow I'm still amazed at the number of people who comment on posts WITHOUT READING THEM or understanding them at all. *SMH*

Agreed. I knew what he was talking about, because I say this every time it happens to me. Pretty sure my fireteam is tired of me complaining about it. Lol

THIS ^. If I'm in my menu I DON'T WANT to be force-exited! Some might think it's a minor annoyance. But to me, this is THE single most maddening thing in the entire game. It frustrates the living (r@p out of me to constantly be ejected from my menu when I'm trying to swap out a weapon or piece of armor, or when I'm trying to look at the progress of a quest. There are times when you stay in your menu just about the entire time when loading to the next planet/zone. IMO they could've done it that way throughout. But way too often you get ejected several times in a row. It''s like they think I really give a flying fudge about seeing the little intro snippet that plays when you load in - the same snippet I've already seen 5000 times before. If it's truly a technical issue, then I think it's simply a horrible design. It better not be that way in Destiny 2.
-
Yeah, I really hope Destiny 2 can implement a more seamless loading experience. I really hate the way it works right now.

So much this.

You're 2nd sentence is the absolute truth. It doesn't tell you until you're flying in. So you have to immediately start switching your weapons around for the map. You get about 10 seconds or so to do it. Kind of ridiculous.
-
Yeah, it's probably the single most annoying thing about the game right now, to be honest. And that's actually a pretty good thing. This game could be a lot worse than it is right now, but it's actually awesome. Just this one thing about pulling me out of menus is driving me insane! Lol
-
You kno what else you forgot to mention... when your switching subclasses and your grenades and melee are emptied. Like wtf the match hasn't even started yet. I adjust guns, sub-class and armor based on map but why am I being penalized for it?
-
Yeah, I think they genuinely just want to prevent you from switching subclasses mid-game. I have to admit, it would be annoying if I were chasing down a defender, and he ran around a corner with a shotgun, and I waited to go in because he has a shotgun, only find him sprinting around the corner and popping a Fist of Panic on me. That's probably not how they want us to play, so they drain all our cooldowns when we switch.
-
I talking about before the match starts like before the intro of alpha/bravo team and flag animation. Anytime after that I'm ok with taking away the cool down.
-
Ah, yes, I see what you mean, haha. That is definitely annoying!

It's funny that they actually addressed this awhile back, really old fix, but seems they went back to being how it is. Wish I can find the post they made about it, how you can be in your menu without the game pulling you out like it does now

Bumping this perfectly stated post.
