I am just going to cross post this from the other Fallout thread:
Depends. What kind of build are you going for? You want to be a guns-centric player? A player who smooth talks his way through everything? A player who loads up on drugs on effortlessly slays everything with melee weapons?
As for general tips:
-Stay away from Cazadores and Deathclaws until you are a higher level
-Intelligence is the best SPECIAL stat. The higher it is, you more skill points you can distribute per level
-Don't put any points into Charisma. It only affects Speech and Barter, and some companion stuff. Useless
-Reputations>Karma. Karma is less important in this game
-Pick up items with low weight, yet high value. Carton of cigarettes are great in this regard. Easy caps
-DLCs are great. Play them in this order though: Honest Hearts, Dead Money, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road
-Explore! Many amazing pieces of gear and quests are off the beaten path
-Don't fret too much about perks. Educated, Better Criticals, Jury Rigging are some essential ones though. I put them on almost every build I make. Here and Now, Swift Learner, In Shining Armor are all useless
But really, just go into the game and have fun. Do whatever you want, ally with whoever, kill whoever, etc. Your next playthroughs can focus on maximizing optimal routes and builds.
> charisma is useless
-
-
nope, not if you have a smart character. a retard strong character with low int, maybe. that also yields a funnier playthrough because everything/one treats you like a Sped kid in dialog boxes.
-
Charisma affects these things: Barter, Speech and Companion Nerve. The only perks Charisma is needed for are Animal Friend and Ferocious Loyalty, both of which are useless compared to some others. On general builds, Charisma is a dump stat. With all of the DLC, Educated Perk, and an Intelligence of 7 or higher, you will get enough skill points to render the Charisma Speech/Barter bonuses null. Unless you are playing a follower only build, I really don't see the point of putting points into that, when you can put them into Agility or Intelligence.

I thought the DLC order was dead money first, then honest hearts
-
Dead Money has some difficult speech checks and enemies. Not to mention you lose your gear. Honest Hearts is far easier, but the occasional Giant Gecko or Giant Cazadore might be trouble. The White Legs are easy to take down.
-
Ah, i figured he meant in terms of story
-
Honest Hearts isn't part of the DLC storyline, it's kinda just there.
-
yes it is, it expands on the lore of the legion and Ulysses.
-
I don't remember anything connecting it to the rest, aside from Legion story.
-
you mean the main plotline? the entire thing is about battling the legion.
-
No, I mean the DLC plotline.
Ulysses, after refusing to carry the Platinum Chip, found himself at Big MT, along with Christine, who was pursuing Elijah. Christine finds herself wounded, (forgot how) and Ulysses tends to her wounds. After Elijah escapes Big MT he arrives at the Sierra Madre. Catherine follows him, and gets bomb-collared. Ulysses, however, went to the Divide, waiting for you.
That story has Dead Money, as a direct outcome, and then Old World Blues, which points you in the direction of the Divide, which leads to Lonesome Road.
-
It is kinda. Ulysses came there to discover the caesar's legion's legend of Joshua graham, and at the same time became a "God" of sorts to the white legs. If you look at the white legs they tend to have Ulysses' hair style
