Community Standards and Codes of Conduct

Destiny 2 concept art of people in the Last City

Bungie is dedicated to creating worlds that inspire friendships and providing fun, safe, and inclusive environments in those worlds and outside them.

As we expand into new and exciting spaces, we have revised our Code of Conduct with new Community Standards and Codes of Conduct for our worlds. These updates outline the principles we ask our community to follow, fostering respect, fair play, and camaraderie. These are essential for the future of our community.

These Community Standards and Codes of Conduct are supplemental to our Terms of Use and Limited Software License Agreement. Bungie reserves the right to remove any user-generated content and any player at our discretion.

Community Standards

The following are the standards we ask for and expect from our community. These standards apply inside and outside our games and official websites.

Be Kind and Treat Everyone with Respect

All members of our community should be treated with dignity and respect. Be excellent to each other and do your part keeping our community great.

Bungie does not tolerate bullying, harassment, hate speech, discrimination, or threats.

Adopt the platinum rule – Treat others how they want to be treated. If you don’t know, ask.

Know The Difference Between Trash Talk and Intolerance

We know that our games can get competitive and interactions with others can get heated. We understand that a little trash talk is expected in our games – it’s banter or bragging that focuses on the game and encourages competition – and that’s not a bad thing.

But what is a bad thing is when trash talk turns into harassing, demeaning, marginalizing, using hateful language against, or belittling other players or groups. This includes interacting with others in a way that is predatory, threatening, intimidating, lewd, demeaning, derogatory, invasive of privacy, or abusive. When this happens, players may face consequences.

Keep It Clean

People enjoy all shapes and styles of content in Bungie’s games. Everyone’s tastes are different, and that’s great! However, that doesn’t mean that absolutely anything goes. To keep the game and our social communities welcoming and inclusive for everyone, some content must be avoided or removed.

Feedback is Welcome When Given Appropriately

We want to hear your feedback, but there are appropriate and inappropriate ways to share it.

  1. Feedback shouldn’t be targeted at an individual or team, but at Bungie, the company.
  2. Feedback should be respectful and constructive.
  3. Feedback that is disrespectful or includes hate speech, personal attacks, harassment, stalking, violations of privacy, or threats may have in-game and real-life consequences, such as contacting law enforcement.

Stay Within the Law

Respect all local laws; we must do so and remove content or behavior that advocates or promotes illegal activities.

Do not use our games or websites to promote any dangerous or illegal activities, including but not limited to harassment, bullying, assault, doxing, swatting, gambling, illegal drugs, animal cruelty, fraud, hacking, and piracy.

Safety First: Protect Your Information

Don’t Share Your Information

We strongly advise our players against sharing their personal or account information with anyone else or a third-party service. This includes anything that could identify you and information that could be used to compromise your account. Bungie representatives will never ask for your password.

Please review our Account Security Guide for helpful tips on how to keep your account safe, such as using Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for each of your platform accounts. If you believe your information has been exposed or compromised, it’s recommended to change your password and contact your platform’s support for further assistance.

Don’t Share Others’ Information

Sharing other people’s personal information (other than Bungie Names) or using other people’s personal information to harass them is prohibited. Scams and soliciting third-party services are also prohibited.

Mental Health

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health issue, know that you are not alone. To help our players, and to destigmatize mental health, we’ve gathered resources together at Bungie.net/MentalHealth. You are not alone.

Destiny 2 Code of Conduct

In addition to our Community Standards, all players in Destiny 2 must adhere to the Destiny 2 Code of Conduct. Many aspects of the Destiny 2 Code of Conduct and the Bungie.net Code of Conduct overlap, including Clan information and Bungie Names, and moderation actions can impact both areas.

In accordance with our Destiny Account Restrictions and Banning Policies, players may face a ban or restriction, and possibly other consequences, for the following, regardless of intent:

  1. Cheating and network manipulation, including poor connection quality.
  2. Frequent quitting or frequent removal from matchmade games.
  3. Using third-party apps to insert code into the game client.
  4. Abusing external accessibility tools.

Additionally, players may face a ban or restriction, and possibly other consequences, for the following, regardless of intent:

  1. Disrespect of any kind; including hate speech based on, but not limited to race, ethnicity, color, creed, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, medical condition, age, national origin, immigration status, or any other attribute that people use to label others and divide communities.
  2. Violations of privacy or sharing other people’s personal information. Do not reveal personal information about others or yourself. It makes you and them vulnerable. Personal information includes but is not limited to, real-world names and addresses, online handles, phone numbers, messaging app profiles, and email addresses.
  3. Personal attacks, harassment, stalking, impersonation, or bullying of other members of this community or Bungie representatives.
  4. Breaking the law, plotting crimes, or describing/promoting illegal activities.

  6. Ruining the player experience and normal gameplay with hacks, cheats, or submitting false reports.
  7. Attempts to phish for or harvest accounts, account details, or other credentials.
  8. Evasion of in-game bans, suspensions, or our language filter.

Other consequences include:

  1. Loss or restricted access to in-game text chat
  2. A reset of the Bungie Name
  3. A reset of Clan information
  4. A ban or restriction from one or all Bungie games

Appealing a Game Ban or Restriction

Players who have received a ban or restriction may contact us using the Ban/Restriction Appeal Contact Form. Before submitting a ticket through the contact form, please read all the information in this article.

Bungie.net Code of Conduct

In addition to our Community Standards, those who use Bungie.net and all Bungie.net services, including our Destiny Companion App, must adhere to the Bungie.net Code of Conduct. Many aspects of the Bungie.net Code of Conduct and the Destiny 2 Code of Conduct overlap, including Clan information and Bungie Names, and moderation actions can impact both areas.

The following contents (and the users who create or contribute to it) will be removed from Bungie.net and Bungie.net services, with a possibility of being banned from our games, regardless of intent:

  1. Disrespect of any kind; including hate speech based on, but not limited to race, ethnicity, color, creed, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, medical condition, age, national origin, immigration status, or any other attribute that people use to label others and divide communities.
  2. Attempts to name and shame suspected cheaters on our forums, instead of submitting their names to our contact form. Our security team does not monitor our forums for reports, only submissions through the form. Please help keep our community safe.
  3. Personal attacks, harassment, impersonation, or bullying other members of this community or Bungie representatives.
  4. Violations of privacy or sharing personal information. Do not reveal personal information about others or yourself. It makes you and them vulnerable. Personal information includes but is not limited to, real-world names and addresses, online handles, phone numbers, messaging app profiles, and email addresses. Bungie representatives will never ask for your personal information in a forum post or direct message.
  5. Discussions, Clan information, or Bungie Names that are in reference to politics or religion – outside the context of in-game story elements.
  6. Depictions, references, or descriptions of graphic violence or explicit/implicit sexual content.
  7. Breaking the law, plotting crimes, or describing/promoting illegal activities.
  8. Threats to harm other members of this community or Bungie representatives, even in jest.
  9. Ruining the experience of others by circulating spoilers, hacks, or cheats.
  10. Distributing unauthorized copyrighted or trademarked material.
  11. Soliciting, plagiarism, or attempts to phish or harvest accounts, account details, or other credentials.
  12. Posts made with the intent to antagonize users or to disrupt the flow of a thread or the forums.
  13. Evasion of website bans, suspensions, or our language filter.

Reporting

Bungie is committed to providing fun, safe, and inclusive environments. We ask that you help us support this initiative by using the “report” button found on our app or website if you believe a user has broken parts of our Code of Conduct. Once you issue a report, it will be sent to our moderation staff who will review the report for action.

Note that reports can be escalated to Bungie representatives who may decide to pursue further actions than a forum bans, such as an in-game ban or contacting law enforcement.

Moderation Staff

Bungie has several community volunteer roles on Bungie.net and partner platforms. These roles are ambassadors for the Bungie Community and our games who work with Bungie’s Community, Player Support, and Web teams to ensure a healthy and safe experience for our players. More information can be found about them here.

Thank You

While we’ve listed many things above, it is not an exhaustive list – we will update our Community Standards and Codes of Conduct as time evolves.

Thank you for being a part of our community and helping us maintain a fun, safe, and inclusive experience for everyone.
