Community Focus - DaddyPhatSnaps

Jan 18, 2017 - Cozmo_BNG

Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity to win movie of the week, would you capture it? Our next guest did. He is a very talented artist, but not the kind of artist who uses a pencil or brush. The kind who uses words and rhymes. He has created some hilarious parody rap songs and community videos. He’s also personified some of Destiny’s most popular tools of destruction and pitted them against each other in rap battles to the pain.

He told me he would teach me how to “drop bombs.” I asked him to come by and give us some insight on what it’s like being a rapper in the Destiny community.

Thank you for joining us Mr. FatStacks. Tell us about yourself and your place in the Destiny community.

DPS: Thank you for having me, man. I have to admit that FatStacks name is kind of catchy, but is it too late to switch my handle? Welp, I am primarily a Destiny YouTuber and what I do is a little different then what you usually see in the community. I do Destiny raps that cover everything from weapon vs. weapon battles, to topics currently trending in the community. I have had the pleasure of working with Crucible Radio, Planet Destiny, Destiny Community Podcast, RNG Podcast, CammyCakes and currently Blessious. It makes you realize how many good people are in this community.

So you spit sick rhymes? Where can we go to hear your stuff?

DPS: The best place to check out what I do would of course be my YouTube Channel. I would also recommend visiting my Twitter as I talk a lot about upcoming projects/updates and use dank gifs on the regular.

Everyone loves a dank gif. OK, BaddieRatTraps, what is your favorite subclass and weapon in Destiny?

DPS: Striker Titan all day. Can't beat skating, Lighting Grenades, and max armor. Twilight Garrison is the cherry on top. I have to go with Hawkmoon for favorite weapon. There is something about that gun that I can’t get out of my head. If it’s used right, it’s still a monster.

The answer we were looking for was Hunter, but let’s move one. How long have you been rapping? Can you tell us the process of writing your Destiny rap songs?

DPS: I literally started rapping with my very first (and extremely cringy) Chaperone rap. Planet Destiny featured it back when they were doing Community Focus articles and I realized that I may have something here. After the first 10 or so raps, I found my groove and what works. After I pick a subject (community, weapon vs. weapon, current trend,) I go hunting for music that I feel would fit. This can be the longest part of the project as I'm typically very picky about the music selection. When I do find the song, I place it on a loop, sit, and write. If I made the right music choice, this takes about 2-3 hours if I'm really in the zone. I love "getting into character" as it makes these projects truly fun to complete.

Both your beats and rhymes thus far have been, how you say… “fresh.” Do you have anything new you are working on you can give us a sneak peek at?

DPS: As I mentioned a little earlier I am currently working on a project with another YouTuber, Blessious, but it’s still in the very early stages. This will be a little bit bigger than the one man operation projects I normally undertake and will have a funny narrative. I'm looking forward to wrapping it up and will keep giving updates on my Twitter (wink).

We are looking forward to hearing this new project.  So, MaddyHatStraps, what has been your favorite memory playing Destiny?

DPS: I have to be honest, my all-time favorite Destiny memory was when I won the first MOTW with Universal Remote vs. No Land Beyond. I was passionate about doing this but I had people in my life who doubted that this would go anywhere. At the time I couldn't really blame them as I was recording my songs on my iPhone mic in a car. Not exactly a respectable setup lol. When I first got that news it validated everything I had done up until that point and inspired me to keep pushing the envelope and my work. It still motivates me to this day.

That was a great MOTW, we’re glad our weekly contest motivated you to keep creating. We are coming to the end of this track, anything else you want to say?

DPS: I just want to thank every single one of you that believed in what I do, including the Bungie staff. Every opportunity and every shot have not been taken for granted and I truly appreciate the support that I have been given thus far. It is because of this game and community that the DaddyPhatSnaps channel even exists.  I'm looking forward to seeing how far we can take this. I can’t wait to see what you all have in store for the community in the future. I have to thank my girl Alissa for putting up with my 1 AM rap sessions and my clan members HanBolo, Ledjuice, Bleeve, and Aleetb for listening to my raps over and over for feedback.

Thank you Alissa for putting up with 1 AM rap sessions. We imagine many pillows were thrown across the room in protest. Big thanks to DaddyPhatSnaps for stopping by to chat. Stop by his channel and give his songs a listen.

We love meeting members of this vast community. We will have someone new for you to meet next week. If you would like to suggest someone to be featured here in the future, make a post on the Community forum with the tag #CommunityFocus.
