When the best players of the Crucible collide, sparks fly. In the past, we’ve spoken with a few of Destiny’s most dangerous assassins to get a glimpse into their world. Players like Mtashed, KJhovey, RealKrafty, and the LAB duo all strike fear into the hearts of opponents when their names pop up in the other team’s roster. We’re adding another name to the growing list of top guns - a young hot shot who has been making big plays.
First off, tell us all a little about yourself and where we can find you online.
Anbu: My name is James also known as "Anbu". I am a 16 year old kid who loves to play video games and I'm currently in my junior year of high school. I am a part of a Destiny clan called, "BombSquadKittens." I also am a partnered streamer on Twitch. I mainly play Destiny on Playstation. My ID on Playstation is iAnbu-. You can also find me on twitter @MyNameAnbu.
Not even out of High school and you’re already making a splash in the Destiny community. I’ve heard you’re quite talented. How did you git so gud?
Anbu: Playing since the release of Destiny and putting many hours into PvP every single day has made me a much better player. Learning good map positioning, spawns, and overall map knowledge is also important. You need to know what guns to use that suit your play style. Not only is playing every day a factor, but playing against the best of the best in competitive matches we call "Sweaties" has made me into the player I am today. I also come from an FPS background, having played games like Call of Duty and Halo ever since I was 6 years old.
Now I have my notepad out. What are some of your favorite weapons and subclasses?
Anbu: Some of my favorite weapons include, The Hawksaw, The Last Word, and Mida Multi-tool. I usually pair my Hawksaw or Mida with a shotgun like the Matador 64, Party Crasher +1, or the Conspiracy Theory. With The Last Word, I like to pair it with a Sniper Rifle. Preferably the high impact Snipers such as LDR 5001, Her Benevolence, 1000 yard stare, or the Y-09 Longbow Synthesis. My favorite subclasses are the Voidwalker on the Warlock and the Gunslinger on the Hunter. I find these two subclass to be very balanced that's why I enjoy playing both.
I heard you’re the only person to make it to the Lighthouse with DeeJ on your team, how did that play out?
Anbu: Playing with DeeJ was an interesting experience. He brought up many jokes and told lots of stories. Funny how it was on Valentine's Day as well. DeeJ did not receive flowers and chocolates, but he did receive some sweet gear. It was probably one of the most intense runs I have ever done. I remember on our 8th game on our card we had lost our mercy. The 9th game went to a 4-4 and we ended up winning the game. I had a massive game going 18-5. Being his first run to the Lighthouse he did pretty well. I was able to teach him how to position himself around the map so he would be in better situations to win gun battles. It was a blast playing with him and hopefully we get to play again soon.
Thanks for showing him the way. We will have to team up sometime. You’re a streamer, tell us what your stream is like? What kinds of content will we find there?
Anbu: I stream mostly Destiny. Lots of Trials and competitive PvP. I try to interact with my viewers as much as possible while trying to provide great gameplay. You will rarely see any PvE on my channel because I like to focus mostly on PvP. My stream is a place where people can hang out, relax and have a good time. You can find my stream at twitch.tv/Anbu.
Sounds like a nice place to chill. You play in a lot of competitive tournaments. What was the most intense moment you remember?
Anbu: The most intense moment I remember was being down 0-2 in the semifinals in a best out of 5 series. In the first Skirmish tournament just after the release of the Taken King. My team was Myself, Luminosity48, and OTF-. Being down 0-2 takes a lot out of you. We knew what kind of mindset we had to have. Leading into game three, we took it slowly and managed to get the win. The series is now 2-1 in their favor. I remember my performance being really poor the previous games, but somehow I managed to make game 4 one of the best games I have ever played. The map was Firebase Delphi and I don't know what happened, but I finished the game going 18-10 and stood up after the game screaming, "LETS GOOOOOO" at the top of my lungs. At this point we stole back the momentum and played the last map in Sector 618 and absolutely destroyed the opposing team. We then went onto the finals and won the whole thing to make this my first tournament win.
Impressive comeback. We always like to give players we focus a chance to share what they would like to add or change about Destiny. What would like to see in future?
Anbu: I would love to see custom games come to Destiny eventually. This is something where players can expand their experience in Destiny to have fun with their friends and be creative. I know competitive Destiny has been on many players minds such as mine and I would like to see the game be an Esport somewhere in the future. I do see myself competing in these tournaments if it does happen sometime later. Of course you cannot forget about the new Raids, Strikes, PvP maps, and activities in upcoming expansions! That is something I will always look forward to in the future of Destiny.
We will give you some new things to look forward to during our Reveal Stream on June 9th.
If you are competitor of the Crucible and want to see some high level play, go watch Anbu. You may learn a thing or two.
