I thought you guys were just being douchebags when you said your Supers took more skill to use.
I thought you Bladedancers were just lying through your teeth when you said you could be killed easily. Same goes for you, Gunslingers.
I thought you guys were just being condescending when you said the Hunter class relies more on player skill than class abilities.
I thought you guys were just salty when you said you got shafted in PvE.
Boy oh boy, how wrong I was.
The past few days, I've started to use my Hunter. And I'm starting to see why you guys say the things you do.
I took my Hunter into Crucible, to see if it really was any different. I can honestly say I was surprised.
I quickly learned I couldn't play like I do on my Titan - my grenades had half the potency, and my melee wasn't as generous. I decided that I was going to have to rely on myself and my abilities more than my class and it's abilities.
To be truthful, I think it's making me a smarter, and better player. After around 30 games of Control, I'm pretty satisfied with my performance so far. Go ahead, look for yourself!
But then came the moment. My super was ready. I was prepared to deliver a world of butthurt unto the enemy team which they would remember for years.
I activated my Arc Blade, ran around the corner, got one kill, and got shut down by a pair of shotgun wielding Titans.
That's happened more than a few times, I'm not afraid to admit. Only once so far have I had 5 kills, I'm actually averaging about 1-2 a Super.
You guys weren't joking.
I also had the chance to do a Normal run through the Vault of Glass. There I was: a level 27 Hunter heading to cripple the Vex, armed with some borrowed weapons, a half-decent grenade, and a Super that can only kill a few enemies, and drops even less orbs.
Again, you guys weren't joking.
So again, I apologize. You guys aren't lying or being condescending when you say the things you do, you're just as serious as everyone else in the room.
I know I have but a miniscule amount of play as a Hunter, so I'm certain I'll experience everything the more I use it.
P.S. - I'm sorry for choosing Bladedancer first, I had to see for myself if what you guys were saying was true.
P.P.S. - Any tips for when and how to use Arc Blade in a way that doesn't get me stomped?
TL;DR: Hunters were telling the truth this whole time, and I'm sorry for doubting them.

I'm glad somebody took the initiative to experience the other side. As far as using arc blade, you'll need to be tactical about it. As far as set up, you'll definitely want hungering blade for the health regen on kill, and either razor's edge or vanish. Some people make good use of vanish, I am not one of them. I prefer razor because it allows you to deal lethal damage without putting yourself in range of shotguns. It's also all about movement, this comes with practice. As far as when to super, I prefer using it in skirmish, however there are only a few useful scenarios. A) you have just team wiped the enemy, predict their spawn and run that way, pop super, and get a few extra kills. B) heavy inbound, have your teammates lock down one and if you time it right you can deny the enemy their heavy. Now with all that said, if you can use Gunslinger, use it. It is a vastly superior strategic super. However you get no damage resistance like you do as a dancer, so be careful. The 2 biggest reasons for running blade dancer are not the super, it's Arcbolt grenade (excellent for leading or ending an encounter, lead to lower health and mop with your gun, or weaken a few enemies then wipe with grenade) and blink, because blink is the best movement ability in the game. Get yourself a found verdict and learn its 2 shot range and 1 shot range. Get yourself a high impact sniper with final round and a low impact with unflinching, both should have ambush scopes, learn to play to the enemies weaknesses. Good luck, guardian!

I use arc blade when I'm about to die, to go invisible, that's it, I never use it otherwise
-
When people see a bladedancer spamming their RB towards them, they panic shoot without aiming and claim the bladedancer to be invincible. That his how Hunter hate is started.

Hunter takes getting used to. As it being my main since beta obviously I can win plenty of games easily but you do have to rely on your ability and not your supers since you can get killed in the animation and have only a slight armor buff and no shield melee. Once you have the subclasses maxed out i recommend you mix them around a bit. My preferred arc blade for pvp is the fast twitch + hungering blade for your melee, and arcbolt grenade. For gunslinger I'd recommend incendiary blade plus gambler's dagger melee and either incendiary or trip mine grenades depending on your play style.
-
Lv28 hunter and he thinks he's experienced enough to say what's hard about it and what's not. I laugh
-
I still think the armor looks stupid though.
-
I've had Hunters since day one. Just started a warlock yesterday and I can't believe how much easier everything is but man do i miss the Hunters jump ability. For arc blade in crucible make sure your using health regen after each super kill. Don't mash the melee And only activate if you know there are at least 3 guys in an area
-
Arc Blade is all about timing. Don't activate it when your secluded in a part of a map, but also don't use it in a group of enemies... as they will shut you down right there. Try to use it in tight space, so you can bounce from enemy to enemy, giving them little room to dodge. P.S Have you experienced a Clash between you and another Blade Dancer yet?
-
Get the last perk, hungering Blade. Each kill with your Blink strike and Arc blade Regenerate health.xD
-
I Love my hunters! Its a different play style. Kinda like when you get a new weapon. You have to change up your tactics and adapt. I'm ashamed to admit my trip mine grenades kill me more than they should.
-
They take a bit of practice. After about the 5th time in the crucible as a hunter I was coming out on top of skirmish or being a close second.

Thanks. Welcome to the party.

Welcome to the party, pal.

I don't know why I never see anything about the flux grenade. It's not bad. It's actually amazing. If you can stick someone then they are dead. If you throw it towards someone a lot of the times it moves toward the person. It's hard to explain but it acts like a magnet if you miss slightly it will correct and stick them. I've had my flux grenade skip on the floor and latch onto someone's foot. As soon as you see it stick just turn and run. Not your problem anymore.
-
Since this is a pro-Hunter thread, I'll share a Hunter Protip.
Skip Grenade is the best Bladedancer grenade. In PVE, throwing it at a steep angle right at your feet can spread it out enough to hit multiple targets, giving it a wider "area of effect." It's not super powerful, but this can clear small mobs. In PVP, Skip Grenade isn't a grenade. It's a "throw around the corner, see where everyone is" tracking device. Aim just below the floating numbers as you turn the corner. It's tracking is also amazing for finishing people off. Once the tracking locks, it doesn't matter how fast they run away.
U just have to be really smart with the supers and use the on the right time try activating GG in the middle of the battlefield and u will see what happens its all about being smart, having skills and timing

Edited by m00ninite: 2/7/2015 6:54:47 PMGunslinger is EZMODE in pretty much everything except it sucks a little that your super doesn't provide any slight armor boost, even during activation. But even so, just activate from cover and it's 3-4 kills no question from a pretty generous range. Gunslinger is rewarded for maintaining distance. Do so, and you should always lead in kills. Blade Dancer really shines in PvE when you make full use of the invisibility to escape, relocate, and flank things. Crucible you just have to get used to anticipating a situation where there are 2-3 enemies guaranteed in a somewhat close area. Don't overlook using Showstopper either, you can easily blink into a group of enemies and hit that for a someway equivalent of your Titan smash.

Same, I love using my hunter for PVP now, as it was designed for it. I agree it takes skill in all aspect of it. Te only thing though is I have a very hard time to use my super. Like I feel everytime I use it I would just waste it by going to far and gettin shot gun in the face. However the times I been successful I generally get around 3-4 kills
-
Use blink as your second jump and jack your armor and agility up as high as possible. Also showstopper helps with crowd control and mask of the third man is your new best friend. Good luck bro.
-
Gunslinger trip mines your welcome
-
The learning curve is a little steeper, but hunters have invisibility which is a lifesaver in pve. In pvp, use your best weapon: your agility. Nothing is harder to kill than a seasoned player using a hunter with max agility, blink + shotgun.
-
I got a six kills in one super in my first crucible match as a bladedancer... And I was blind from a Titan grenade. True story. Clash.

Edited by EternalDamnation: 2/7/2015 5:26:15 PMThis post is amazing! Gunslinger is the class to be for PvE, golden gun melts oracles and supplicants. For your arc blade troubles, try and double jump, activate mid air, and then use R1 as your fast travel tool through the air, should help get you a bit more mobile, allowing for another kill or two. As for arc blade PvE, well... it's really only good for extra fast killing of trash mobs.

Stay back and use razors edge in raids. Gets decent orbs once you get the hang of it
