I thought you guys were just being douchebags when you said your Supers took more skill to use.
I thought you Bladedancers were just lying through your teeth when you said you could be killed easily. Same goes for you, Gunslingers.
I thought you guys were just being condescending when you said the Hunter class relies more on player skill than class abilities.
I thought you guys were just salty when you said you got shafted in PvE.
Boy oh boy, how wrong I was.
The past few days, I've started to use my Hunter. And I'm starting to see why you guys say the things you do.
I took my Hunter into Crucible, to see if it really was any different. I can honestly say I was surprised.
I quickly learned I couldn't play like I do on my Titan - my grenades had half the potency, and my melee wasn't as generous. I decided that I was going to have to rely on myself and my abilities more than my class and it's abilities.
To be truthful, I think it's making me a smarter, and better player. After around 30 games of Control, I'm pretty satisfied with my performance so far. Go ahead, look for yourself!
But then came the moment. My super was ready. I was prepared to deliver a world of butthurt unto the enemy team which they would remember for years.
I activated my Arc Blade, ran around the corner, got one kill, and got shut down by a pair of shotgun wielding Titans.
That's happened more than a few times, I'm not afraid to admit. Only once so far have I had 5 kills, I'm actually averaging about 1-2 a Super.
You guys weren't joking.
I also had the chance to do a Normal run through the Vault of Glass. There I was: a level 27 Hunter heading to cripple the Vex, armed with some borrowed weapons, a half-decent grenade, and a Super that can only kill a few enemies, and drops even less orbs.
Again, you guys weren't joking.
So again, I apologize. You guys aren't lying or being condescending when you say the things you do, you're just as serious as everyone else in the room.
I know I have but a miniscule amount of play as a Hunter, so I'm certain I'll experience everything the more I use it.
P.S. - I'm sorry for choosing Bladedancer first, I had to see for myself if what you guys were saying was true.
P.P.S. - Any tips for when and how to use Arc Blade in a way that doesn't get me stomped?
TL;DR: Hunters were telling the truth this whole time, and I'm sorry for doubting them.

Edited by YoungChrisMott: 2/7/2015 10:13:54 PMFinally some recognition! It's very true, I have friends who like myself began with Hunters, and have 2 plus 1 warlock or 1 titan. Their tactics learned with the Hunter help them solo difficult Nightfalls and stay alive in raids with their other characters. You have to be smart and strategic with Hunters. Bladedancer PVE tips (as a fully upgraded subclass :/) lengthy but helpful.. - run "showstopper" (during arc blade, pressing R2 will make you spin and damage everything around you) - for best results, have "blink strike grants brief invisibility", tap an enemy (preferably low armor, incapable of a one hit melee) and turn invis, - run straight into the nearest mob, activate arc blade and press r2 repeatedly. you will absolutely demolish everything in your immediate surroundings. - If you have "kills with arc blade increase the time of super" (or whatever it's called) activated, you can practically stand in the door way of the first Omnigul room, and kill every single thrall that rushes you in 1 super. This strategy maximizes your potential for orb drops in strikes and raids. --- Gunslinger tip for orbs... - bring any Majors you see down to a sliver of health before hitting them with the Golden Gun (referring to Majors that cannot be OHK, like the ones in raids) - in example, if you bring 2 of the 4 Knights in the beginning of the Crota battle to a OHK with the golden gun, you can kill them both and drop 4 orbs per knight for your team. --- It's ridiculous how technical you have to get with hunters just to drop orbs or maximize supers. If you use the Aclyophage Symbiote helmet and gain an addition bullet, you still only average 4 orbs per super unless you down some Majors. People just don't understand. --- Also, as a Hunter, I tend to rely less on my supers abilities, and instead turn to the stats of the super. Example, I run my bladedancer in the Crota raid simply because I can adjust the nodes and have the best possible AGILITY of the 2 subclasses. Invisibility is also a plus. In Nightfalls, even if Arc is the Burn, I tend to run Gunslinger, because I can have a 50% agility stat, but also have a great amount of armor. You can set them up for your preference of course, but my traditional setup is : Gunslinger : Max Armor Potential Bladedancer : Max Agility Potential

Thanks for trying out the Hunter side of things! As for advice goes for your arc blade, patience is a virtue. Gotta wait for the right moment when the attention is off you or they're grouped up. Generally there's a mass histeria when you run in a group and start murdering people. (Remember to use hungering blade). That being said sometimes I dont use my super at all!

Great post. I just made a titan and I'm seeing the other side of things too. I love my hunter but it's so fun to play with a totally different style. I hate running around a corner with my golden gun only to be greeted with someone else activating their non hunter super. I lose 100% of the time as purple bolts consume me or I get smashed by a titan.

Edited by grimsbyrob: 2/8/2015 1:31:12 AMIf you take anything away from this post please make sure it's this. do not spam the trigger button. I know it's tempting but it only leads to running up walls and getting killed. Make sure to line up your target and once they're dead, line up your next one. If you panic and trigger spam you'll waste the super. Also try to get mask of the third man helmet. It's great for HM crota for health regen. Also it reduces the amount of super power arc blade uses, effectively lengthening it's duration. On top of this, check out your skill tree. Make sure you have 'Hungering blade' selected so if you are being shot at, you can heal yourself if you get a kill. Hope this helps.

Very good. It's important to play all 3 classes. Makes you more well-rounded and knowledgable. For example, I used to hate warlocks. Now I have one and love it! (Except for that jump. Talk about cringe-worthy.) Hunters are very fun. As are the other two classes. Happy Hunting!

Use the blade dancer super around the corner of a group of enemy's, and cut them down. The best part is you can just skip the jump puzzle all together in VoG by flying through the air with the bl super.

Great post. Happy Hunting!

Thank you very refreshing. No panic button supers here lol

Love the post man. You went out to try it for yourself & proved a lot of ppl wrong.

Tips for using arc blade: I've had the most success by acrivating a super immediately after a blink (before you reappear). This cuts off about half of that animation and prevents you from using it while standing still. If you time it just right, your character will reappear, blade in hand before your camera has time to adjust (this can be disorienting). Also sliding and activating Arcblade or golden gun at the beginning of the slide allows you to move while you perform that long animation.

Great post. I think anything takes practice.

This is a great post. But try being sword bearer on hard 😭 so much pressure if you mess up. Especially if you don't have many options to regen health

Honestly i enjoy pvp most on my hunter but i play gunslinger for the most part. Blade dancer has some good utility but having played my striker titan through an ib ive determined distance is better for me. Dont enjoy getting shotgunned ever. Best advice i can give ya is once you get the invis perk for arcblade rock it as much as possible. Same for blink strike. Blade dancer is good without invis but once you start going invis you'll notice it turns you into the predator.
-
You need the perk 'arc blade and blink strike damage immediately restores health'... I learned very fast that this is essential for pvp use. Once you have that it's much harder to get killed but still certainly possible. I usually get ended by shotguns or mg's.

From one Hunter main (I also have a Warlock and Titan), to a newer Hunter, thanks for being understanding :) nice to see someone being the opposite of a genuine jackass on here.
-
You sir, are a -blam!-ing MAN. No, THE -blam!-ing man. Im really glad you received this wisdom from your time as a Hunter. I think playing as a Hunter will make you a better player with all of your other classes as well. I mained a Hunter but I switched to warlock right before TDB dropped and I contribute my success as a warlock to my early training as a Hunter.

Edited by SweetZombieJesus: 2/7/2015 11:10:05 PMThe one thing that can be said about Hunters in the crucible is our supers are not get out of jail free cards... On more than one occasion I've completely surprised and outclassed my opponent warlock or titan only to have them panic button their super... Its part of the game and I'm cool with it... But good lord... Single kill supers... Lame...

Edited by CatMan Snowball: 2/8/2015 12:39:22 AMI've shotguns a hunter 3 times close range( P.S he sucked that's how i managed 3 shots) yet didn't die or even get below half life... Also I have played on my bros account( he is a hunter) and found out blade dancer is hard in a way to use but 3 shotgun shots REALLY??!!
-
For arc blade, get comfortable using blink with it to close on people. Pop around the corner, even if it means less potential kills. Get mask of the third man so you can run the heal super. Use gunslinger in iron banner
-
Warlock master race Jk I agree hunter requires skill
-
Edited by Xaiyu: 2/8/2015 12:40:28 AMUse the wave for long distant kills to avoid heavy damage and use hungering blade. Other than that, I still prefer my gunslinger. But I like to switch over every now and then.

Good stuff

Takes a real guardian to admit this

Bladedancer is best

Edited by LJ: 2/8/2015 1:30:39 AMI play titan as my main and recently started playing hunter aswell. Let me just say PvP is extremely easier as a hunter. Kills galore with both supers. However in PvE I feel underpowered.
