rarest armor piece is still heart of Praxic (destinyxur.com)
The Heart of Praxic Fire and skull of dire Ahamkara and ATs/8 Arachnid are the only 3 exotic armor pieces never sold by Xur. Skull seems more common though to be dropped by RNG. I haven't seen a person with Heart on in months.
Edit: destinyxur.com to see all items ever sold.
Edit 2: if you got if from a chest engram that isn't what were talking about here so please clarify this to not confuse people to think it was actually sold. The upgrade also doesn't count as you must possess said item first

Got all of em and I barely use my warlock and don't have a hunter lol.

I have it got it from Xur, so I xurned it lol. It was the sixth week and he had a chest engram, I googled exotic armors for warlock and saw I wanted praxic fire. So i said ill give it a shot and bought the engram, and i got it! If i never got this chest I would have never been a 30 back before the dlc bc till this day I never got the vault chest piece even after 3 months of VOG hard!

Seems to me the upgrade for Voidfang Vestments is as rare as him selling HoPF. Have not seen that upgrade in forever!

I got mine very early on for my warlock, first exotic piece for him I think, he was my 2nd guardian, I like it, I like more that it's rare, not that I would have a problem if Xur sold it. I would happily trade it in for a ghorn though
